This book was released on 2021-09-21 with total page 590 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Low Carbon Stabilization and Solidification of Hazardous Wastes details sustainable and low-carbon treatments for addressing environmental pollution problems, critically reviewing low-carbon stabilization/solidification technologies. This book presents the latest state-of-the-art knowledge of low-carbon stabilization/solidification technologies to provide cost-effective sustainable solutions for real-life environmental problems related to hazardous wastes including contaminated sediments. As stabilization/solidification is one of the most widely used waste remediation methods for its versatility, fast implementation and final treatment of hazardous waste treatment, it is imperative that those working in this field follow the most recent developments. Low Carbon Stabilization and Solidification of Hazardous Wastes is a necessary read for academics, postgraduates, researchers and engineers in the field of environmental science and engineering, waste management, and soil science, who need to keep up to date with the most recent advances in low-carbon technologies. This audience will develop a better understanding of these low-carbon mechanisms and advanced characterization technologies, fostering the future development of low-carbon technologies and the actualization of green and sustainable remediation. Focuses on stabilization/solidification for environmental remediation, as one of the most widely used environmental remediation technologies in field-scale applications Details the most advanced and up-to-date low-carbon sustainable technologies necessary to guide future research and sustainable development Provides comprehensive coverage of low-carbon solutions for treating a variety of hazardous wastes as well as contaminated soil and sediment

Book Sustainable Remediation of Contaminated Soil and Groundwater

Download or read book Sustainable Remediation of Contaminated Soil and Groundwater written by Deyi Hou and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2019-11-23 with total page 474 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sustainable Remediation of Contaminated Soil and Groundwater: Materials, Processes, and Assessment provides the remediation tools and techniques necessary for simultaneously saving time and money and maximizing environmental, social and economic benefits. The book integrates green materials, cleaner processes, and sustainability assessment methods for planning, designing and implementing a more effective remediation process for both soil and groundwater projects. With this book in hand, engineers will find a valuable guide to greener remediation materials that render smaller environmental footprint, cleaner processes that minimize secondary environmental impact, and sustainability assessment methods that can be used to guide the development of materials and processes. Addresses materials, processes, and assessment needs for implementing a successful sustainable remediation process Provides an integrated approach for the unitization of various green technologies, such as green materials, cleaner processes and sustainability assessment Includes case studies based on full-scale commercial soil and groundwater remediation projects

Book Remediation of Petroleum contaminated Soils

Download or read book Remediation of Petroleum contaminated Soils written by David J. Friend and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 1996 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This synthesis will be of interest to state transportation personnel involved with project planning and location (administrative and regulatory personnel), design staff (general civil, geotechnical, and environmental engineers), and project managers (construction and maintenance engineers and staff). It will also be of interest to federal and state environmental agencies and to environmental consultants and contractors as well as to trainers in the field of petroleum-contaminated soil remediation. This synthesis describes the remedial technologies that may be available to transportation agencies faced with the regulatory responsibility to clean or remediate petroleum-contaminated soils in the vadose zone (unsaturated soils above the groundwater table) at a particular site as well as the state of the practice within the agencies. This report of the Transportation Research Board describes the applicability and cost-effectiveness of alternate technologies to remediate petroleum-contaminated soil. Practices currently being used by state transportation agencies to remediate petroleum-contaminated soils, both on site and off site are also described. This summary of transportation agency practice complements the limited telephone survey of soil remediation techniques that was performed in preparing NCHRP Report 351, Hazardous Wastes in Highway Rights-of-Way.

Book Treatment of PCB Contaminated Soil by Stabilization and Solidification Processes

Download or read book Treatment of PCB Contaminated Soil by Stabilization and Solidification Processes written by Ying Huang and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stabilization and Solidification (S/S) technology is widely used to treat industrial waste. With the recent development of HiFa Bond (a special binding agent), any slurry type of wastes, such as the soil sediments in Five Island Lake, can be treated directly by the S/S method without dewatering. The soil sediments deposited at the bottom of Five Island Lake in Halifax county are contaminated by PCBs and need treatment urgently. In this research project, soil samples taken from the lake were treated by the S/S method without dewatering using HiFa bond as a binding agent. The primary purposes were to examine if the solidified soil can develop sufficient strength required for landfill, determine the minimum amount of required binding agent, assess the leaching effect on the treated soil, and evaluate the long term stability of the treated soil in different environments (air, water, and acid water). Natural sands and fly ash (Type F) were used as strengthening additives to improve the strength of the solidified soil sediments. Numerous experiments have been conducted on the soil sediment samples.
