Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an overview of the diversified soil regimes in India. In addition to the historical advances in soil research and its limitations, it describes the monitoring of various soil conditions and soil uses to improve productivity. Discussing topics such as climate, geology and geomorphology, major soil types and their classification, soil mineralogy and clays, soil micromorphology, soil biogeochemistry, benchmark soils, land evaluation and land use planning, soil health and fertility and soil resilience, the book highlights the multiple uses of soils in industry, human health care, mitigation of challenges due to climate change and construction. It also presents measures for a brighter future of soil science in India, such as imposing organic farming principles toward sustainable agriculture in the context of the second green revolution besides alleviating the poverty and providing the employment opportunities among the farming communities in India.

Book Cricket Pitches

    Book Details:
  • Author : Shyam Bahadur Singh

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book develops a practical understanding of the fundamental scientific principles and logic underlying the art of turf pitch preparation, measuring, analysing, and interpreting pitch surface behaviour. It’s an attempt to understand how the captains, players, coaches, curators, and groundsmen comprehend and analyse the cricket pitch behaviour (days before and during the matches) and whether the pitch behaviour can be standardised and quantified (through bench marking or forming a data-based management system (DBMS) of a pitch profile, pitch quality standards, a pitch behaviour analysis index (PBAI), or pitch behaviour forecasting (PBF) by examining or analysing its mineralogical, chemical, physical, or morphological compositions, weather variables, and different pitch preparation methods and techniques. Individual chapters in this book deal with clay mineralogy, the bench-marking of cricket pitch soils, pitch soil chemical properties, pitch soil water, pitch turf grass, pitch soil organic matter, integrated rolling management, soil structure, and compressibility. This is an effort to decipher the impact of each and every major and minor component of pitch soil, which controls the pitch behaviour either in large or small magnitudes but acts as a critical factor in defining and shaping the pitch behaviour as a whole. Several real-life examples, pitch interviews, scenarios, and case studies as felt and observed by the curator( first author) during the preparation of various international, national, and board matches or during the construction and renovation of new wickets have been included in each and every relevant chapter so as to analyse, interpret, comprehend, and justify the theoretical science with the existing practises involved in pitch construction, preparation, or judging the complex nature of pitch behaviour. Based on findings through the DBMS, PBAI, and PQS of cricket pitch profiles, various innovative and simple methods of analysing, comprehending, and forecasting pitch behaviour have been devised that will enable one to judge and comprehend the complex pitch behaviour in simple ways.

Book Remote Sensing and GIS Applications A Starter Guide

Download or read book Remote Sensing and GIS Applications A Starter Guide written by D.C. Joshi and published by Scientific Publishers. This book was released on 2019-03-02 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Satellite Remote Sensing and GIS, a new fast developing technology, has potential for quick and accurate assessment and characterization of natural resources potentials. Nowadays, for any small query, planning and management of natural resources, one can nd quick answer by referring the satellite images. But, satellite images have to be interpreted which requires training and skill. During recent years, at many Universities, at graduate and post graduate degree courses of engineering, agriculture, forestry, geology, geography and environmental sciences, Remote sensing and Geographical Information System (GIS) has been added as a part of syllabus. Keeping in mind, this book has been written, in simple explanatory language with illustrations, so that even novice and inexperienced person can understand and interpret the satellite images. There are 19 chapters in the book, covering two aspects, (1) Fundamentals of Remote Sensing Technology which includes satellites and sensors, spectral reectance characteristics of objects on earth surface, satellite image interpretation techniques and GIS, and (2) Applications of the Technology for identication, mapping and monitoring of landforms, soil, surface and ground water and forest resources; land use/ land cover classication and wasteland mapping; land degradation and desertication classication and mapping; crop identication and acreage estimation, watershed development planning and monitoring; natural calamities and disaster management. Each topic has been elaborately explained with case studies to meet the requirement of the students, teachers, and natural resource planners.

Book Salinity Tolerance in Plants Methods Mechanisms and Management 2nd Ed

Download or read book Salinity Tolerance in Plants Methods Mechanisms and Management 2nd Ed written by B. K. Garg and published by Scientific Publishers. This book was released on 2019-03-01 with total page 552 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Salinity tolerance in plants is a complex problem encompassing numerous morphological, physiological and biochemical processes and adaptations at the cellular, sub-cellular and whole plant levels. The book comprising eleven chapters deals with diverse aspects of salt tolerance including plant response to salinity and sodicity, crop tolerance at different growth stages and criteria for evaluating the same. The mechanism of salt injury viz. osmotic, ionic and nutrient imbalance has been dealt with, adopting an integrated appraoch. Likewise, the recent information on photosynthesis, respiration, carbohydrate, nitrogen and protein metabolism, enzyme dynamics and plant hormones, as well as nodulation and symbiotic nitrogen fixation in legumes has been elaborated comprehensively. Special attention has been given to the interaction between essential nutrients and salinity as it is vital for alleviation of adverse effects of salt stress. The synthesis of knowledge on different mechanisms of salt resistance, including osmoregulation with organic and inorganic solutes has also been presented. Various methods of introducing salt tolerance in plants such as breeding, genetic variations, physiological approaches, tissue culture, somaclonal variation, somatic hybridation and recombinat DNA technology have been discussed. The nature and properties of salt affected soils and groundwaters and principles for amelioration and management of these critical problems have been included in this book. Furthermore, Afforestation and Agroforestry techniques for salt affected soils with emphasis on salt tolerant tree species and suitable tree crop combinations also find their much needed due space in the present book.
