Book Earth Science and Applications from Space

Download or read book Earth Science and Applications from Space written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2007-10-01 with total page 460 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Natural and human-induced changes in Earth's interior, land surface, biosphere, atmosphere, and oceans affect all aspects of life. Understanding these changes requires a range of observations acquired from land-, sea-, air-, and space-based platforms. To assist NASA, NOAA, and USGS in developing these tools, the NRC was asked to carry out a "decadal strategy" survey of Earth science and applications from space that would develop the key scientific questions on which to focus Earth and environmental observations in the period 2005-2015 and beyond, and present a prioritized list of space programs, missions, and supporting activities to address these questions. This report presents a vision for the Earth science program; an analysis of the existing Earth Observing System and recommendations to help restore its capabilities; an assessment of and recommendations for new observations and missions for the next decade; an examination of and recommendations for effective application of those observations; and an analysis of how best to sustain that observation and applications system.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is aimed at the majority of audiences who need to rapidly obtain a concise overview of soil moisture measurement and management. Many existing soil moisture textbooks cater for a traditional market where readers rely on years of study presented in a slender discipline. The evolution of segmental schemes has meant that soil moisture is now often included as a part of broad-based soil science programs. For those opting to specialise in soil moisture, this is a good book to choose. This book will be very useful to students, researchers and other readers who do not hold a traditional scientific background, such as those studying geography, environment science, ecology and agriculture. This book provides a concise overview of soil moisture knowledge.

Book Scientific Perspectives of Tea Plant Horticulture and Productivity

Download or read book Scientific Perspectives of Tea Plant Horticulture and Productivity written by L. Manivel and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2021-10-31 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scientific Perspectives of Tea Plant Horticulture and Productivity is a complete, step-by-step guide on how to maximize tea plant growth, yield and quality. Chapters focus on the methods of cultivation, soil and water management, plant physiology, plant protection and weed control, problems from pollution and climate change, and eco-friendly remedial actions. This is an essential read for plant biologists and tea horticulturalists as the tea industry is struggling due to high production costs, changing climates and diminishing plant yields, with countries in Asia declaring the industry at ‘crisis point.’ Horticulturalists need solutions to problems with plant productivity, quality, stress management and eco-friendly cultivation practices. There have been several technological advances in the field and horticulturalists need guidance on how best to implement new technologies, hence the importance of this new resource. Written by a tea industry expert with almost 40 years’ of experience Provides a practical guide on all aspects of tea cultivation, with step-by-step protocols Includes plantation troubleshooting and other remedial actions

Book Digital Terrain Analysis in Soil Science and Geology

Download or read book Digital Terrain Analysis in Soil Science and Geology written by Igor Florinsky and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2016-07-11 with total page 508 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Digital Terrain Analysis in Soil Science and Geology, Second Edition, synthesizes the knowledge on methods and applications of digital terrain analysis and geomorphometry in the context of multi-scale problems in soil science and geology. Divided into three parts, the book first examines main concepts, principles, and methods of digital terrain modeling. It then looks at methods for analysis, modeling, and mapping of spatial distribution of soil properties using digital terrain analysis, before finally considering techniques for recognition, analysis, and interpretation of topographically manifested geological features. Digital Terrain Analysis in Soil Science and Geology, Second Edition, is an updated and revised edition, providing both a theoretical and methodological basis for understanding and applying geographical modeling techniques. Presents an integrated and unified view of digital terrain analysis in both soil science and geology Features research on new advances in the field, including DEM analytical approximation, analytical calculation of local morphometric variables, morphometric globes, and two-dimensional generalized spectral analytical methods Includes a rigorous description of the mathematical principles of digital terrain analysis Provides both a theoretical and methodological basis for understanding and applying geographical modeling

Book Studies in Soil Moisture Vol 1 Classic Reprint

Download or read book Studies in Soil Moisture Vol 1 Classic Reprint written by Bernard Howell Wilsdon and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-12 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Studies in Soil Moisture, Vol. 1 The appearance recently of a paper by B. A. Keen (j. A. Se, Vol. X, 44, which gives an admirable resume of the work so far published on the mportant subject of soil moisture, has caused me to consider it advisable to give a preliminary account of the lines of work on this subject which have been developed at Lyallpur since 1917. It is probably unnecessary to refer here to the overwhelming insistence of the demand in a Punjab irrigation colony for research into the problems presented by the agriculture of such tracts, which involve the elucidation of the factors controlling the movement of moisture in the soil. That any investigation into these problems involves an attack from many directions is obvious when the complexity of the subject is considered. But to wait for the final convergence of a series of independent lines of investiga tion unduly postpones the publication of ideas and results which may be of use to workers in the subject and which may interest others who may give assistance. I therefore make no apology for the fact that much of the work described hereinafter is at present very incomplete beyond the statement that I hope at not far distant dates to continue this paper in a series of parts, describing in detail the work which has been performed in each division of the subject. Book Application of Soil Physics in Environmental Analyses

Download or read book Application of Soil Physics in Environmental Analyses written by Wenceslau Geraldes Teixeira and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-06-30 with total page 508 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The importance to preserve soil and water have is increasingly recognized. Agricultural practices and ecological trends both affect and are affected by soil physical properties. The more frequency of natural disasters, as landslides and thunderstorms addresses the importance to integrate soil characteristics in predictive models. Soil physics research has grown considerably specially in the use of innovative sensors, soil databases, and modeling techniques have been introduced into soil water relationship and environmental monitoring. Those advances are thoroughly dispersed in articles and conference proceedings In this volume, the authors will bring together the effectiveness of many new field and lab sensors and examine the current state-of-the-art in modeling and data analysis. It also includes innovative approaches and case studies in tropical soils. Future directions in soil physics research are given by key researchers in this discipline.
