Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 7th IFIP Workshop on Software Technologies for Future Embedded and Ubiquitous Systems (SEUS) followed on the success of six previous editions in Capri, Italy (2008), Santorini, Greece (2007), Gyeongju, Korea (2006), Seattle, USA (2005), Vienna, Austria (2004), and Hokodate, Japan (2003), establishing SEUS as one of the emerging workshops in the ?eld of embedded and ubiq- tous systems. SEUS 2009 continued the tradition of fostering cross-community scienti?c excellence and establishing strong links between researchand industry. The ?elds of both embedded computing and ubiquitous systems have seen considerable growth over the past few years. Given the advances in these ?elds, and also those in the areas of distributed computing, sensor networks, midd- ware, etc. , the area of ubiquitous embedded computing is now being envisioned as the wayof the future. The systems and technologies that will arise in support of ubiquitous embedded computing will undoubtedly need to address a variety of issues, including dependability, real-time, human–computer interaction, - tonomy, resource constraints, etc. All of these requirements pose a challenge to the research community. The purpose of SEUS 2009 was to bring together - searchersand practitioners with an interest in advancing the state of the artand the state of practice in this emerging ?eld, with the hope of fostering new ideas, collaborations and technologies. SEUS 2009 would not have been possible without the e?ort of many people.

SEUS 2010 continued the tradition of fostering cross-community scienti?c excellence and establishing strong links between research and industry. SEUS 2010 provided a forum where researchers and practitioners with substantial - periences and serious interests in advancing the state of the art and the state of practice in the ?eld of embedded and ubiquitous computing systems gathered with the goal of fostering new ideas, collaborations, and technologies. The c- tributions in this volume present advances in integrating the ?elds of embedded computing and ubiquitous systems. The call for papers attracted 30 submissions from all around the world. Each submission was assigned to at least four members of the Program Committee for review. The Program Committee decided to accept 21 papers, which were arranged in eight sessions. The accepted papers are from Austria, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, Portugal, Taiwan, UK, and USA. Two keynotes complemented the strong technical program.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an introduction to the complex field of ubiquitous computing Ubiquitous Computing (also commonly referred to as Pervasive Computing) describes the ways in which current technological models, based upon three base designs: smart (mobile, wireless, service) devices, smart environments (of embedded system devices) and smart interaction (between devices), relate to and support a computing vision for a greater range of computer devices, used in a greater range of (human, ICT and physical) environments and activities. The author details the rich potential of ubiquitous computing, the challenges involved in making it a reality, and the prerequisite technological infrastructure. Additionally, the book discusses the application and convergence of several current major and future computing trends. Key Features: Provides an introduction to the complex field of ubiquitous computing Describes how current technology models based upon six different technology form factors which have varying degrees of mobility wireless connectivity and service volatility: tabs, pads, boards, dust, skins and clay, enable the vision of ubiquitous computing Describes and explores how the three core designs (smart devices, environments and interaction) based upon current technology models can be applied to, and can evolve to, support a vision of ubiquitous computing and computing for the future Covers the principles of the following current technology models, including mobile wireless networks, service-oriented computing, human computer interaction, artificial intelligence, context-awareness, autonomous systems, micro-electromechanical systems, sensors, embedded controllers and robots Covers a range of interactions, between two or more UbiCom devices, between devices and people (HCI), between devices and the physical world. Includes an accompanying website with PowerPoint slides, problems and solutions, exercises, bibliography and further reading Graduate students in computer science, electrical engineering and telecommunications courses will find this a fascinating and useful introduction to the subject. It will also be of interest to ICT professionals, software and network developers and others interested in future trends and models of computing and interaction over the next decades.

  • Pages : 377 pages

Download or read book Embedded Systems Design written by Michael Schmidt and published by . This book was released on 2018-06 with total page 377 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Embedded systems and real time operating systems (RTOS) are fast achieving ubiquity, blurring the lines between science fiction and hard reality. Computer systems that are embedded in a variety of devices and play a significant role of specific control functions have permeated different scenes of industry. Therefore, we can hardly discuss our life or society from now onwards without referring to embedded systems. Nowadays, different advances in technology have reduced the cost of micro-controllers and devices, such as sensors and actuators. In addition, the proliferation of Internet connections has led to the appearance of digital system controllers that are designed to monitor and control equipment distributed by remote human intervention. Embedded systems and Real Time Operating systems are two among the several technologies that will play a major role in making these concepts possible. A large number of people are already depending on operating systems for real time applications, these 'eyes in the sky' are now going to make an impact on our everyday lives in a more considerable manner.Embedded Systems Design is intended to describe research or technical aspects in the area of real-time and embedded systems. It aims at the evaluating of the maturity and design and control of embedded and real-time systems, and ubiquitous computing technology and the investigation of the trends and innovations in the field. For a broad range of embedded systems to continue their growth, a number of high-quality fundamental and applied researches are indispensable. It deals with the use of software engineering techniques in the design of embedded systems. It aims to propose a strategy for the development of embedded systems, that incorporate aspects of computing interest as an abstraction of the behavior and component-based design which allows embedded systems to have a number of features. Various technologies presented in this book will be helpful to researchers and engineers around the world.

Book Embedded and Ubiquitous Computing EUC 2005

Download or read book Embedded and Ubiquitous Computing EUC 2005 written by Laurence T. Yang and published by Springer. This book was released on 2005-11-24 with total page 1226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Welcome to the proceedings of the 2005 IFIP International Conference on - bedded and Ubiquitous Computing (EUC 2005), which was held in Nagasaki, Japan, December 6–9, 2005. Embedded and ubiquitous computing is emerging rapidly as an exciting new paradigm to provide computing and communication services all the time, - erywhere. Its systems are now pervading every aspect of life to the point that they are hidden inside various appliances or can be worn unobtrusively as part of clothing and jewelry. This emergence is a natural outcome of research and technological advances in embedded systems, pervasive computing and c- munications, wireless networks, mobile computing, distributed computing and agent technologies, etc. Its tremendous impact on academics, industry, gove- ment, and daily life can be compared to that of electric motors over the past century, in fact it but promises to revolutionize life much more profoundly than elevators, electric motors or even personal computers. The EUC 2005 conference provided a forum for engineers and scientists in academia, industry, and government to address profound issues including te- nical challenges, safety, and social, legal, political, and economic issues, and to present and discuss their ideas, results, work in progress, and experience on all aspects of embedded and ubiquitous computing.
