Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most evangelical Christians believe that those people who are not saved before they die will be punished in hell forever. But is this what the Bible truly teaches? Do Christians need to rethink their understanding of hell? In the late twentieth century, a growing number of evangelical theologians, biblical scholars, and philosophers began to reject the traditional doctrine of eternal conscious torment in hell in favor of a minority theological perspective called conditional immortality. This view contends that the unsaved are resurrected to face divine judgment, just as Christians have always believed, but due to the fact that immortality is only given to those who are in Christ, the unsaved do not exist forever in hell. Instead, they face the punishment of the "second death"--an end to their conscious existence. This volume brings together excerpts from a variety of well-respected evangelical thinkers, including John Stott, John Wenham, and E. Earl Ellis, as they articulate the biblical, theological, and philosophical arguments for conditionalism. These readings will give thoughtful Christians strong evidence that there are indeed compelling reasons for rethinking hell.

He also explores nine other clues that Jesus is coming soon, including?the approaching 2000-year anniversary of the resurrection?the regathering of Israel?and the prophecies of Daniel Chapter 12.He makes the case that the return of Christ is at hand-perhaps in the next year or two, perhaps a little later, but assuredly very soon. And he offers practical instruction about what it means to "live holy and godly lives" as we look for the coming of our Lord and King.If you're discouraged about the craziness you see in the world today, And Then the End Will Come will offer you hope for better things soon to come-things so great that the Bible says no one can imagine how awesome they will be.

Book All about the Second Coming

Download or read book All about the Second Coming written by Herbert Lockyer and published by Hendrickson Publishers. This book was released on 1998 with total page 269 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The classic "All" series books have graced the shelves of pastors, students, and laypeople alike for decades. "All about The Second Coming" continues in the series' tradition of offering a faithful and comprehensive treatment of biblical subjects. Herbert Lockyer opens this work with disturbing words: "The doctrine of the Second Coming is one of the most abused and distorted in the Bible." To correct these abuses and distortions, he undertakes a detailed study of the book of Revelation. "Let us," he says, "read what the Bible has to say about Christ's coming, taking every reference at its face value." Section by section--sometimes verse by verse--he traces what this mysterious book says about the history of the world from Pentecost to the Rapture of the Church, from the Tribulation to the Great White Throne. He sheds light on often-troubling images and descriptions, helping readers feel as if they understand the message of Revelation. An appendix describes the rich significance of the many numbers appearing in Revelation, and the scripture index aids readers in finding answers to their specific questions.

Book The Second Coming of Jesus Think Again

Download or read book The Second Coming of Jesus Think Again written by William H. Hogue and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2012-08-01 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The overarching theme of this book is that the Second Coming of Jesus happened in AD 72, and that therefore Jesus is not coming again to rapture the church. The book lays out a thorough exploration in support of this theme. Daniels prophecies are foundational, especially his prophecy of the Seventy Weeks in Daniel 9:2427 and his prophecy of four sequential Fertile-Crescent, Mediterranean empires (see Daniel 7). The Fourth Empire, or the Roman Empire, is the key to understanding my theme, with stress on the meaning of the horns on the head of the Fourth Beast (see Daniel 7:78). As proof of my theme, I use the biblical code of two or three witnesses (see, e.g., Deuteronomy 19:15, Matthew 18:16, John 8:17, and 1 John 5:8). The three witnesses I give are Daniel, Jesus, and the collective apostlesall of whom taught and agreed that Jesuss Second Coming would take place before Jesuss generation passed away (Matthew 24:34). Furthermore, I show how the epistles of the New Testament reflect this theme by citing scores of passages from them for my readers to consider. Finally, in chapter 5 of the book and in five appendixes, I show how the Book of Revelation, aptly interpreted, fully agrees with this theme.

Book excerpt: Lord, When? looks at the Second Coming from a Scriptural point of view, while examining the questions, objections, and various views of the Tribulation period and the Rapture of the Church. As the world draws closer to the Second Coming of our Lord, it is more important than ever that all Christians understand what the Bible says about this crucial doctrine. Our greatest hope lies not in theories of inferences but in undeniable facts left by our Lord in His holy word about: The Seventh Trumpet The Great Apostasy The Restrainer The Antichrist The Seventy Weeks of Daniel The 144,000 Servants With over twenty years of research and study of the end of times, author John J. Cobb brings a special and unique approach to these areas. He has taught four verse-by-verse expositional classes on the book of Revelation. His passion for scriptural clarity in eschatology has been the driving force behind Lord, When? Whether the information gathered is from him or other authors and experts in this area, Minister Cobb has taken great care to bring it all to bear against the backdrop of Holy Scripture—the final arbiter of all Christian doctrine.

Book The Sin of Sodom

  • Author : Lee Howard
  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2015-10-06
  • ISBN : 9780692529690
  • Pages : 190 pages

Download or read book The Sin of Sodom written by Lee Howard and published by . This book was released on 2015-10-06 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why did God destroy the cities of the Plain? What does the Bible really teach about the sin of Sodom and its destruction with Gomorrah and surrounding cities? Many Christians believe God rained down fire and brimstone on the ancient towns because its inhabitants were gay. But is there any evidence elsewhere in the Bible to support that homosexual behavior was prevalent in these places? This thesis closely studies the account of Sodom and Gomorrah to find out what the Bible really says about the past-and what it means for us today. In addition to accurately interpreting the Bible, it's crucial to understand the customs of the ancient world so that Scripture is set in its proper historical context. This guards against misinterpreting the text in the light of modern traditions, beliefs, and prejudices. The Sin of Sodom examines all the Scripture passages that mention Sodom to find out what they do-and don't-say about why God destroyed the ancient cities of the Plain. It also reviews history and the interpretations of Old Testament scholars and early Church leaders to reveal the evolution of their understanding over the centuries and how this affects the beliefs of today's Church. What was the sin of Sodom, and why did God destroy it? Read this book to discover what the Bible really says.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book was originally published in 1896. It has eight chapters, each one written by a well-known minister of the era, except the last chapter written by an unknown with the initials J.W. Written for the layman, not the scholar, each chapter is in one way or another about the return of Christ. It is a very good book for anyone seeking to learn the basics of the second coming of Christ, called eschatology. Even though I have written four books on Bible prophecy, I plan to read this book and add it to my library. (Michael D. Fortner, publisher) AUTHORS of the chapters: 1. Harriet Beecher Stowe 2. D. L. Moody 3. J. C. Ryle 4. George Muller 5. D.W. White 6. G. C. Needham 7. Charles H. Spurgeon 8. J.W.
