Download or read book Socioeconomic Impact Analysis Communications Industry written by ACUMENICS RESEARCH AND TECHNOLOGY INC BETHESDA MD. and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the summary of a study entitled Socioeconomic Impact Assessment: Communications Industry . The purpose of the study was to identify and assess the impacts of new communications technology on the aviation industry during the 1990 to 2020 time frame. The study includes four major phases. This volume contains the second third and fourth phase summaries. The second phase includes the development of three future socioeconomic scenarios as well as forecasts of relevant aviation activity under each scenario. The third phase of the effort is the forecast of communications technology. The forecast contains three major elements: 1) a forecast of communications technology without regard for future socioeconomic conditions; 2) a forecast of technology in the context of future socioeconomic scenario options; and 3) aviation communication system concepts for each socioeconomic scenario. The fourth phase of the study is the impact assessment. The impact assessment identifies and, to the extent possible, quantifies the likely consequences on future aviation communications.

Book Socioeconomic Impact Assessment Communications Industry Phase I Description and Documentation of the Current State of the Art

Download or read book Socioeconomic Impact Assessment Communications Industry Phase I Description and Documentation of the Current State of the Art written by ACUMENICS RESEARCH AND TECHNOLOGY INC BETHESDA MD. and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The current study is concerned with the forecast and assessment of communications technology, especially with respect to its impact on aviation. The study will assess the socioeconomic aspects as well as technologies per se. This is due to the fact that realistic long-range forecasts must include socioeconomic structural changes such as changes in the regulatory climate. This is a significant difference between this study and the previous one on microcomputers. The different approach is necessary since the communications industry has been heavily regulated while the computer industry is not. For the purpose of this study, communication is defined as any process that permits the passage from a sender to one or more receivers of information of any nature delivered in any usable form (printed copy, fixed or moving pictures, visible or audible signals, etc.) by means of any electromagnetic system (electrical transmission by wiere, radio, optical transmission, guided waves, etc.). Emphasis will be placed on those processes which either directly or indirectly support the NAS operations, including air-to-air, air-to-ground, ground-to-air, and ground-to-ground communications.

Book Socioeconomic Impact Assessment Communications Industry Phase I Technical Appendix Description and Documentation of the Current State of the Art

Download or read book Socioeconomic Impact Assessment Communications Industry Phase I Technical Appendix Description and Documentation of the Current State of the Art written by ACUMENICS RESEARCH AND TECHNOLOGY INC BETHESDA MD. and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The system descriptions contained in this volume differ from those in Volume I along two dimensions. First, the previous system descriptions were functional in nature, and were primarily concerned with system requirements, performance and interconnections. These descriptions, while touching on all of these aspects, placed more emphasis on the design criteria and hardware of the systems and subsystems. Secondly, while Volume I was primarily concerned with current and near-term future systems, this volume will more fully describe the historical and evolutionary development of the systems. As such, it will compliment the material in Chapter Four of Volume I, which assessed innovation and diffusion. The material in this volume is divided into three appendices. Appendix A describes the integration of several DCS and VCS functions into the proposed National Airspace Data Interchange Net-Work (NADIN). Appendix A also describes work in progress on the Voice Switching and Control System (VSCS). Appendix B describes the evolution and current state-of-the-art for Collision Avoidance Systems. Finally, Appencix C supplements the material presented in Volume I on the Intercom/Interphone (IP/IC) systems, and Appendix A regarding VCS. (Author).

Book Mobile Telecommunications in a High Speed World

Download or read book Mobile Telecommunications in a High Speed World written by Peter Curwen and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2016-07-22 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mobile Telecommunications in a High Speed World tells the story of 3G and higher-speed mobile communication technologies. Over ten years have passed since the first third-generation (3G) licences were awarded following debates about the merits of auctions versus 'beauty contests' then, nothing much happened. More licences were issued, a few roll-outs commenced and everyone began to think it had all been a horribly expensive mistake. That may still turn out to be the case, but in the meantime there have been massive developments in terms of the number of licences and launches worldwide, in the range of services that can be accessed, in the range of devices that can be used to access them, in operator strategies etc. Even the technology has improved considerably with 4G now under discussion. Much of this story has been chronicled, largely on the Internet, but the information is in tens of thousands of bits and pieces and a large part of it is either misleading or just plain wrong. Here, Peter Curwen and Jason Whalley introduce the outcomes of research that has involved the compilation of a unique database which details every licence and launch worldwide involving 3G. The authors discuss the structure of the industry and the strategic behaviour of operators, as well as the social consequences of the spread of 3G. They examine the role of new entry upon competition, and present analysis of the main operators involved, the development of handsets and especially smartphones. A number of country case studies are included. This comprehensive and up-to-date volume includes a number of country studies and is written by two of the world's foremost researchers on this industry. Mobile Telecommunications in a High Speed World will serve the needs of students, academics and those involved, or contemplating involvement, with the telecoms industry. Why pay thousands of dollars to consultancies to separate the wheat from the chaff with respect to 3G when you can read this book.

Book Regulation and the Evolution of the Global Telecommunications Industry

Download or read book Regulation and the Evolution of the Global Telecommunications Industry written by Anastassios Gentzoglanis and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2010-01-01 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After decades of liberalization of the telecommunications industry around the world and technological convergence that allows for increasing competition, sector-specific regulation of telecommunications has been on the decline. As a result, the telecommunications industry stands in the middle of a debate that calls for either a total deregulation of access to broadband infrastructures or a separation of infrastructure from service delivery. This book proposes new approaches to dealing with the current and future issues of regulation of telecommunication markets on both a regional and a global scale. This volume represents a valuable compendium of ideas regarding global trends in the telecommunications industry that focus on market and regulatory issues and company strategies. With an international cast of contributors, Regulation and the Evolution of the Global Telecommunications Industry also provides insight into topics including: mobile Internet development, structural function and separation, global experiences with next generation networks, technology convergence and the role of regulation, and the regulatory impact on the balance between static and dynamic efficiencies. The empirical evidence and experiences presented here illustrate the diversity of thoughts and research that characterize this important area of academic and business research. Thus, it will be a critical reference for scholars and students of regulatory economics, policy and finance and researchers and administrators of the telecom industry.
