Book Information Technology and Socialist Construction

Download or read book Information Technology and Socialist Construction written by Daniel E. Saros and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-05-09 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The failure of command central planning in the twentieth century has led to a general disillusionment within the socialist movement worldwide. Some alternatives to capitalism have been proposed since the end of the Cold War, but none has offered an alternative form of economic calculation. This book explains how modern information technology may be used to implement a new method of economic calculation that could bring an end to capitalism and make socialism possible. In this book, the author critically examines a number of socialist proposals that have been put forward since the end of the Cold War. It is shown that although these proposals have many merits, their inability effectively to incorporate the benefits of information technology into their models has limited their ability to solve the problem of socialist construction. The final section of the book proposes an entirely new model of socialist development, based on a "needs profile" that makes it possible to convert the needs of large numbers of people into data that can be used as a guide for resource allocation. This analysis makes it possible to rethink and carefully specify the conditions necessary for the abolition of capital and consequently the requirements for socialist revolution and, ultimately, communist society. Information Technology and Socialist Construction will be of interest to students and scholars of political economy, the history of economic thought, labour economics and industrial economics.

The significance of Marx and Engels' socialist theories for contemporary social development in the Eastern societies is henceforth laid bare. Book From Radical Marxism to Knowledge Socialism

Download or read book From Radical Marxism to Knowledge Socialism written by Michael A. Peters and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-12-22 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume examines the place of Marxist theory in the history of the journal Educational Philosophy and Theory, primarily through the selection and exploration of typical and significant articles exploring Marxist-related themes in the journal over time. The title, From Radical Marxism to Knowledge Socialism, reflects this historical approach. In the 1960s and 1970s, Marxism was considered to be a radical, extreme ‘political’ theory, while western liberalism and a free-market economy were largely taken for granted as natural phenomena, in western philosophy of education and in the journal. More recently, educational theorists have begun to explore trends related to the neoliberal age. Paradoxically, such trends include the move toward knowledge socialism, which decenters the normative presuppositions of knowledge capitalism as the latest iteration of western liberalism. The volume begins with an introductory chapter that examines the history of Marxism in western philosophy and philosophy of education. The rest of the book features works selected from the journal that further illustrate the evolution of Marxist theoretical perspectives in the field over time. This collection thus gives a sense of the range and extent of Marxist-inspired thinking in educational philosophy and theory. This book will be of interest to students and scholars of educational philosophy and theory and others who are interested in exploring in depth the evolution of key themes in this field over time, including liberalism, ideology, Marxism, neoliberalism, knowledge construction, capitalist and socialist schooling, and other aspects of economic analysis in education.

Book On Socialism

    Book Details:
  • Author : Irfan Habib
  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2009
  • ISBN : 9788189487638
  • Pages : 196 pages

Download or read book On Socialism written by Irfan Habib and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book While Marx and Engeis wrote detailed critiques of capitalism, they could only suggest the bare outlines of what socialism as the order of society supplanting capitalism could be like. Lenin built on these ideas and the experience of the working-class movement to develop notions of the ways in which a transitional regime based on the worker-peasant alliance could open the path to socialism. Stalin guided the construction of socialism in one country (Russia), and analysed the problems faced by socialism once established. Mao Zedong critically reviewed the experiences of the Soviet Union in socialist construction, and insisted that one must grapple with and resolve various contradictions within socialist society that he went on to define. The writings of these major figures of the Communist movement form an important storehouse of ideas, both theoretical and practical, on socialism. These are of exceptional importance today, when the world economic crisis of 2008-“09 has brought on the agenda the question of replacement of capitalism by a more just system all over the world. The editor of this volume, Irfan Habib, has contributed an explanatory essay placed in the Appendix, setting out the problems of socialism as analysed by leading Marxist theoreticians and economists, and checked with the actual experience of socialist countries.
