Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Social Work with the Aged and Their Families presents the functional-age model (FAM) of intergenerational treatment, an integrative theoretical framework for social workers practicing with older adults and their families. In keeping with the Council on Social Work Education's curriculum mandate of 2015, social workers are now encouraged to use human behaviour theories in working with their geriatric clients. This fourth edition incorporates much-needed additional techniques to address the mental health assessments of the elderly. FAM addresses the assessment of older adults' biological, psychological, socio-cultural, and spiritual age. It also incorporates an evaluation of the family system, family roles, and family development in this assessment. Interventions at the individual, family, group, and community levels are discussed. This volume, augmented with recent concepts related to successful aging, spirituality, and resiliency, presents the major converging conceptual trends that constitute a model for twenty-first century social work practice in the field of aging. It is an indispensable text for those training in social work practice with the elderly, or those currently in practice.

Book A Culture of Fear

Download or read book A Culture of Fear written by Lmft Dominguez and published by Strategic Book Publishing. This book was released on 2013-12 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Culture of Fear takes readers inside the largest child protective services agency in the country, Los Angeles County's Department of Children & Family Services (DCFS). Julian J. Dominguez and Melinda Murphy, current and former DCFS employees, respectively, expose some of the most serious deficiencies of the agency. They detail systemic core issues that include a lack of integrity in DCFS court report writing, and describe how reunification of families is marginalized or set aside and eclipsed by other priorities, including personal opinions, departmental positions, personality conflicts, prejudices/biases, and "cover your ass at all costs." The authors shine a light on the struggles of social workers in this agency, where values can stray far, far, from the publicly proclaimed mission, which is supposed to protect children and reunify families. This book is very unique by all measures, and is meant to serve as a starting point, not a solution or finish line. It will hopefully evoke meaningful dialogue resulting in reform and needed change.

Book Family Support Program for Families in the Child Welfare System

Download or read book Family Support Program for Families in the Child Welfare System written by Consuelo Gomez and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: The purpose of this project was to design a family support program at the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services, Wateridge Office, Service Planning Area 6 (SPA 6), identify a potential funding source, and write a grant to fund the program for families that have experienced child neglect. Research indicates that a variety of environmental and parental risk factors, such as poverty, ethnicity, single parent household, mental health, substance abuse, and domestic violence have been identified for child neglect. Child characteristics, such as age and disability have also been identified as risk factors for child neglect. Studies on programs with behavioral and multi-component treatment approaches have shown to be successful in improving outcomes for families experiencing neglect. The proposed program aims for families to be self sufficient, to be reunited with their children, and to have reduced child neglect reoccurrence or re-entry into the child welfare system.
