Book Effects of Video Self Modelling on the Social and Communicative Skills of Children with Attention deficit Hyperactivity Disorder

Download or read book Effects of Video Self Modelling on the Social and Communicative Skills of Children with Attention deficit Hyperactivity Disorder written by Laura Stanley and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page 109 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Children with Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) have been shown to lack particular communicative language and social skills, leading to poor social relationships, and lack of academic success. To date, there is a lack of interventions that focus on improving these deficits. Our research examined whether a Video Self Modeling (VSM) intervention would be successful in significantly improving communicative language skills and social skills in children with ADHD. Using a multiple baseline design, four participants from the age of 7-12 participated in a VSM intervention. Each participant focused on two behaviors, which were chosen dependent on the individual’s deficits. These included eye contact, turn taking, following directions, emotion regulation, and appropriate language. Teachers additionally completed a socialisation questionnaire before and after the intervention to assess behavior change. Results indicated that VSM was a highly effective and efficient method for the improvement the target behaviors chosen for each participant. The intervention significantly improved these skills in the 2-week intervention period, with improvements remaining at 1 and 2 month follow up. Therefore, the results of this study show that video self modeling may be an effective method for improving communicative and social skills in children with ADHD.

Book Teaching Social Skills to Children with Asperger s and High Functioning Autism

Download or read book Teaching Social Skills to Children with Asperger s and High Functioning Autism written by Krystal M. McFee and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ABSTRACT: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of video self-modeling and behavior skills training to teach social skills to children with Asperger's and high functioning autism. The targeted social skills were social initiations and social responses. The video self-modeling alone condition was implemented first using a video feedforward approach. A behavior skills training (BST) procedure was implemented following the video self-modeling alone condition for each participant. BST consisted of instructions, modeling, rehearsal, and feedback. The frequency of each target behavior was scored from videotapes using 10-second frequency within interval recording. After the video self-modeling was introduced, a mean increase was demonstrated in the target behaviors for 3 of the 4 participants. However, following the video self-modeling plus behavior skills training procedures, the social skills increased further for each participant. Follow up measures showed that the social interactions for each participant remained higher than baseline, however slightly lower than levels during BST+VSM.

Book Seeing is Believing

Download or read book Seeing is Believing written by Tom Buggey and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Video self-modeling (VSM) is a proven and effective method for teaching new or more advanced skills and behaviors to people with autism. The technique uses homemade videos (created by parents, teachers, or therapists) to demonstrate a desired behavior. The key feature of any self-modeling video is that the person modeling the behavior in the video is the same person watching the video. VSM allows a person with autism to see himself performing the very skill he is trying to learn. This is accomplished through careful editing and manipulation of video footage, transforming it into a cohesive teaching tool. And the process is a lot easier than you may think! Seeing Is Believing begins with an overview of the research and science behind VSM and insights into why it is a particularly good teaching method for people with autism and other developmental disabilities. It then explains the process of making self-modeling videos from start to finish, including how to: choose the behavior/skill to teach conduct a task analysis select and use camcorders and video software storyboard video scenes plan and shoot footage transfer the video to a VCR, DVD, or computer edit and manipulate the footage keep track of and interpret data These videos can teach or modify a wide variety of behaviors and skills, such as controlling tantrums, increasing the frequency and length of verbal responses, making requests, interacting with peers, and solving math problems. Seeing Is Believing is a good companion book to Functional Behavior Assessment for People with Autism and Stop That Seemingly Senseless Behavior! For further information on VSM, go to siskinvsm.org. Here youwill find a blog that provides additional advice and consultation via email on VSM methods, sample videos, FAQs, and a discussion forum with professionals in the field. siskinvsm.org will become operational in March 2009.

Book The Effects of Video Self Modeling on Social Skills with High School Students with Autism

Download or read book The Effects of Video Self Modeling on Social Skills with High School Students with Autism written by Thea Lippoldt and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Students with autism spectrum disorder face many hardships and struggles in life. Video self-modeling appears to be one educational tool that will help to provide the necessary tools for students to be successful, decreases the potential for the student to be victimized by bullies, and increase the quality of life students will have. This study evaluates the use of video self-modeling with a high school freshman who is on the autism spectrum. Video self-modeling was used to decrease the maladaptive behavior of biting himself. The ABA research design allowed for a two week intervention where the student watched a video of himself demonstrating a replacement behavior instead of biting his arm. The study found a statistically significant difference in the incidents of biting in baseline one and baseline two.
