Book excerpt: This interdisciplinary book presents a comprehensive conceptual and methodological treatment of intervention research, a developing area of empirical inquiry that aims to make research more directly relevant and applicable to practice. Intervention Research contains original chapters by the most highly regarded scholars in the field. These experts explain how to distinguish intervention research from other modalities, demonstrate a new model of research for the design and development of interventions, and provide guidelines for conducting intervention research in practice with individuals, families, and community organizations. Providing useful observations and a wealth of ideas, authors offer conceptual schemes, results from recent design and development studies, and strategies and methodologies to help professionals make their research more usable and meaningful. Chapters cover such important topics as the acquisition of relevant knowledge, meta-analysis in intervention research, methods and issues in designing and developing interventions, and field testing and evaluating innovative practice interventions. The book depicts intervention research through case illustrations and promotes the use of new technologies for developing innovative practice methods. Intervention Research focuses on Intervention Design and Development--the part of intervention research involving the creation of reliable, practical tools of social intervention in user-ready form. It sets forth systematic procedures for designing, testing, evaluating, and refining needed social technology and for disseminating proven techniques and programs to professionals in the community. Intervention Research has a base in social work, but is highly interdisciplinary. Authors contributing to this text come from a variety of fields, including psychology, sociology, education, information science, and communications. Professors and educators working in schools of public health, education, urban planning, nursing, and public administration, or teaching courses in psychology, sociology, or upper-level social work, will find this book full of comprehensive and practical information that is advantageous for their work.

Book Incorporating Engaged Research in Social Development

Download or read book Incorporating Engaged Research in Social Development written by Wassie Kebede and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2021-04-26 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a wide-ranging presentation derived from teaching experiences and research projects, seasoned professors, Wassie Kebede and Alice Buttereld, examine engaged research that links social work, human services, and social development with the intent of instigating action for social change.Drs. The book provides a glimpse into the professors' own experiences and an emphasis on the importance of involving faculty and students in engaged research through coursework. Book Practice Research in the Human Services

Download or read book Practice Research in the Human Services written by Michael J. Austin and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 2020 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The evolution of practice research can be viewed as a 21st century development. As it will be defined and illustrated in this volume, it has been influenced by multiple forces. One of these forces is represented by the wave of interest in evidence-based practice that prioritizes the use of rigorous scientific methods in the form of random control trials (RCT) in order to determine service effectiveness. In particular, the central role played by the concept of "fidelity" to the procedures required to guarantee outcomes similar to those demonstrated in multiple RCT studies has generated concerns among researchers and human service practitioners attempting to take into account the diverse needs of service users and the diverse capacities of service providers. These developments have generated renewed interest in qualitative methods and what Flyvbjerg (2001) calls "the science of the concrete" that is defined in the first chapter. We view practice research as a form of evidence-informed practice that involves a wide array of research designs and methods, in contrast to the narrower emphasis on experimental designs that characterizes evidence-based practice"--
