Download or read book The Bahamas written by International Monetary Fund. Western Hemisphere Dept. and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2018-05-14 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Selected Issues paper makes the case for a rules-based fiscal framework for The Bahamas and discusses its design, calibration, and implementation. The IMF staff recommends adopting a headline deficit ceiling and a cap on current expenditure growth, both calibrated to guide debt toward a suitable medium-term anchor while allowing room for stabilization. A headline deficit target is simpler to communicate and monitor than a structural balance rule. Such a framework would allow expanding capital spending, up to the limit provided by the deficit ceiling, in the event of improvements in revenue performance. Moreover, in line with best practices, the framework should be anchored around a pre-defined medium-term debt target that will guide the calibration of proposed operation rules.

Book Analysis of Socio Economic Conditions

Download or read book Analysis of Socio Economic Conditions written by Gianni Betti and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-03-22 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Showcasing fuzzy set theory, this book highlights the enormous potential of fuzzy logic in helping to analyse the complexity of a wide range of socio-economic patterns and behaviour. The contributions to this volume explore the most up-to-date fuzzy-set methods for the measurement of socio-economic phenomena in a multidimensional and/or dynamic perspective. Thus far, fuzzy-set theory has primarily been utilised in the social sciences in the field of poverty measurement. These chapters examine the latest work in this area, while also exploring further applications including social exclusion, the labour market, educational mismatch, sustainability, quality of life and violence against women. The authors demonstrate that real-world situations are often characterised by imprecision, uncertainty and vagueness, which cannot be properly described by the classical set theory which uses a simple true–false binary logic. By contrast, fuzzy-set theory has been shown to be a powerful tool for describing the multidimensionality and complexity of social phenomena. This book will be of significant interest to economists, statisticians and sociologists utilising quantitative methods to explore socio-economic phenomena.

Book Management Strategies and Tools for Addressing Corruption in Public and Private Organizations

Download or read book Management Strategies and Tools for Addressing Corruption in Public and Private Organizations written by Pérez-Uribe, Rafael Ignacio and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2023-06-14 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Corruption is a phenomenon as old as civilization itself within the history of humanity, and it has presented itself in society with different intensities and various nuances. Many authors have described corruption as the action and effect of corrupting or becoming corrupted, but it also includes the use of the functions and means of organizations (public or private) for economic benefit or some other form of benefit. Corruption has thus become one of the main threats to democracy and governance because the principles of good governance are violated and the ethical precepts within society are defied. Management Strategies and Tools for Addressing Corruption in Public and Private Organizations explores the phenomenon of corruption in its entire context, analyzes it as dysfunctionality in the managerial practice of public and private organizations, and provides methods for monitoring, treating, and prevention. Covering topics such as anti-corruption organizational structure, rehabilitation systems, and shadow economy, this book is ideal for academicians, students, government officials, public and private organizations, and more.

Book Impacts of Labor Market Institutions and Demographic Factors on Labor Markets in Latin America

Download or read book Impacts of Labor Market Institutions and Demographic Factors on Labor Markets in Latin America written by Adriana D. Kugler and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2019-07-17 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper documents recent labor market performance in the Latin American region. The paper shows that unemployment, informality, and inequality have been falling over the past two decades, though still remain high. By contrast, productivity has remained stubbornly low. The paper, then, turns to the potential impacts of various labor market institutions, including employment protection legislation (EPL), minimum wages (MW), payroll taxes, unemployment insurance (UI) and collective bargaining, as well as the impacts of demographic changes on labor market performance. The paper relies on evidence from carefully conducted studies based on micro-data for countries in the region and for other countries with similar income levels to draw conclusions on the impact of labor market institutions and demographic factors on unemployment, informality, inequality and productivity. The decreases in unemployment and informality can be partly explained by the reduced strictness of EPL and payroll taxes, but also by the increased shares of more educated and older workers. By contrast, the fall in inequality starting in 2002 can be explained by a combination of binding MW throughout most of the region and, to a lesser extent, by the introduction of UI systems in some countries and the role of unions in countries with moderate unionization rates. Falling inequality can also be explained by the fall in the returns to skill associated with increased share of more educated and older workers.

The second offers country-specific details. The final part deals with the economic future of the region where the authors put forth a Latin American version of success. This book is a useful, in-depth introduction for students of Latin American economics as well as the general reader.

Book Social Enterprise in Latin America

Download or read book Social Enterprise in Latin America written by Luiz Inácio Gaiger and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-05-22 with total page 283 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the absence of a widely accepted and common definition of social enterprise (SE), a large research project, the "International Comparative Social Enterprise Models" (ICSEM) Project, was carried out over a five-year period; it involved more than 200 researchers from 55 countries and relied on bottom-up approaches to capture the SE phenomenon. This strategy made it possible to take into account and give legitimacy to locally embedded approaches, thus resulting in an analysis encompassing a wide diversity of social enterprises, while simultaneously allowing for the identification of major SE models to delineate the field on common grounds at the international level. These SE models reveal or confirm an overall trend towards new ways of sharing the responsibility for the common good in today’s economies and societies. We tend to consider as good news the fact that social enterprises actually stem from all parts of the economy. Indeed, societies are facing many complex challenges at all levels, from the local to the global level. The diversity and internal variety of SE models are a sign of a broadly shared willingness to develop appropriate although sometimes embryonic—responses to these challenges, on the basis of innovative economic/business models driven by a social mission. In spite of their weaknesses, social enterprises may be seen as advocates for and vehicles of the general interest across the whole economy. Of course, the debate about privatisation, deregulation and globalised market competition—all factors that may hinder efforts in the search for the common good–has to be addressed as well. The second of a series of four ICSEM books, Social Enterprise in Latin America will serve as a key reference and resource for teachers, researchers, students, experts, policy makers, journalists and other categories of people who want to acquire a broad understanding of the phenomena of social enterprise and social entrepreneurship as they emerge and develop across the world.

This book was released on 2024-05-28 with total page 131 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite having advanced social protection systems, OECD countries still face challenges in identifying, enrolling, and providing benefits and services to all those in need. Advances in digital technologies and data can go a long way towards making social protection more accessible and effective. This report presents a stocktaking of OECD governments’ strategies to identify individuals and groups in need, collect and link (potential) beneficiary data across administrative and survey sources, and apply data analytics and new technologies to improve programme enrolment and the benefit/service delivery experience – all with the objective of reaching people in need of support in OECD countries.

Book Delivering Growth to People Through Better Jobs

Download or read book Delivering Growth to People Through Better Jobs written by Weltbankgruppe and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2023 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Growth in Sub-Saharan Africa is expected to slow to 2.5 percent in 2023 from 3.6 percent in 2022. It is projected to increase to 3.7 percent in 2024 and 4.1 percent in 2025. However, in per capita terms, the region is projected to slightly contract over 2015-2025. The region faces many challenges, including a "lost decade" of sluggish growth, persistently low per capita income, mounting fiscal pressures exacerbated by high debt burdens, and an urgent need for job creation. Tackling these multifaceted issues requires comprehensive reforms to promote economic prosperity, reduce poverty, and create sustainable employment opportunities in the region. This will require an ecosystem that facilitates firm entry, stability, growth, and skill development that matches business demand.

Book Africa Latin America and the Caribbean

Download or read book Africa Latin America and the Caribbean written by Sabella Ogbobode Abidde and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2018-03-01 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As important as state-to-state and multi-state cooperation have long proven to be, many countries in the Global South have yet to fully explore its potentials. Despite their shared history of slavery, colonialism, and underdevelopment, Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean currently show a lack of significant cooperation. Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean: The Case for Bilateral and Multilateral Cooperation, therefore, makes the case for an increased and renewed effort at bilateral and multilateral cooperation between the three regions. In this multidisciplinary work, scholars make the case for renewing, continuing, and deepening relationships between the people, the state, and the non-governmental organizations in the three spheres—taking not only an economic and political point of view, but also considering sociological, geographical, and historical perspectives as well.

Central to this edited collection, and critical to its creative significance and contribution, is the conceptual unification of gendered health, the embodiment of identity, societal structures, and social inequality, and the ways in which gender, health, and society intersect daily. By emphasizing the complex ways in which gender and health intersect in Latin America, the contributors to this collection offer a more detailed look at how gender embodies health inequities in these populations and how societal woes impact and constrain gendered bodies in public spheres.
