Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Achieving the goal of decent work for all--in conditions of freedom, equity, security, and human dignity--is possible only if employees can actively participate in the process. This global report emphasizes the need for a conducive environment to facilitate collective bargaining and conflict resolution, wellfunctioning labor administration, and strong workers' and employers' organizations. The report identifies positive developments in freedom of association, such as initiatives promoting that freedom due to growing economic integration. It also describes the restrictions and interference that representative organizations face from the challenges posed by structural and technological changes and globalization. Finally, it describes the ILO response to these challenges through technical cooperation and assistance to member states and outlines a plan of action for the next four years.

Download or read book The RFID Roadmap The Next Steps for Europe written by Gerd Wolfram and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-08-09 with total page 219 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: RFID is a key technology for Europe. Today there is a noticeable shift away from the days of RFID pilot projects, and towards a time where organisations are looking to RFID to drive efficiency and innovation. Although Europe is a leading player in the world of RFID technology, several challenges which are preventing RFID from reaching its full potential need to be addressed. To further the advancement of this technology, coordinated European efforts need to be promoted, specifically in the areas of standardisation, user guidelines, legislation, technology development, and research and development. These themes have been analysed, and clear recommendations have been derived, stating what the different RFID stakeholders can do to support the technology. This book is aimed at decision makers in all fields of society, e.g. in companies, politics, business associations, etc. The publication is a summary of the results of the coordination action CE RFID - "Coordinating European Efforts in the RFID Value Chain" - and is a network of European RFID technology providers, vendors and end users. It aims at promoting the use of RFID technology and supporting further development. The project was funded by the European Commission under the 6th Framework Programme.
Download or read book Walking Mannequins written by Joya Misra and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 2022-02-01 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In malls across the United States, clothing retail workers navigate low wages and unpredictable schedules. Despite these problems, they devote time and money to mirror the sleek mannequins stylishly adorned with the latest merchandise. Bringing workers' voices to the fore, sociologists Joya Misra and Kyla Walters demonstrate how employers reproduce gendered and racist "beauty" standards by regulating workers' size and look. Interactions with customers, coworkers, and managers further reinforce racial hierarchies. New surveillance technologies also lead to ineffective corporate decision-making based on flawed data. By focusing on the interaction of race, gender, and surveillance, Walking Mannequins sheds important new light on the dynamics of retail work in the twenty-first century.
