Book excerpt: As Namibia struggles to rebuild the country with the first elected government, predators circle as they always do. They use this time as an opportunity to set up business at all cost; greed drives the day-to-day existence, and ruthless business people use corrupt officials to further business ventures. Marie Louw is a girl with broken wings after she is violently attacked by four predators. She runs to her high school sweetheart; he knows exactly how to handle this situation. In Broken Wings, author Chris Norris writes a fast-paced story based on the life of Eben Basson, his valued friend, Lucas, and the love of his life, Marie Louw. The story is based on the experiences and dreams of two young lovers and how Africa shaped their lives. Eben and Maries lives are cemented by their friendship from a very young age and their dream to explore Africa with their friend, Lucas. They uncover a deadly ring in the underbelly of animal fighting and poaching, and now they have to fight for their lives. From police corruption to international greed, this is a game where only the fittest will survive. Tammy Blake, the daughter of Mandy and Vince Blake, a wealthy business man, befriends Marie and Eben to uncover and expose this blood sport. She finds herself in the middle of an explosive situation with deadly consequences. This is Africa where life is cheap and most people take what they need at gunpoint, a lesson Tammy will have to learn in order to survive. The outcome is by no means certain for the happy couple that set out to discover Africa and rekindle their love for one another.

Book excerpt: Grab a cup of coffee or a glass of iced tea and take a walk with me through this book of reflections in which you will find the beauty of love, life, and yes, some heartbreak and tears. Share the dreams and memories with me from day to day. Some memories and thoughts or just fantasy feel the sweetness and promise of a new day dawning. Life is so full of diversity and change, some good days and some bad, and most of which we have no control of. As you read some pages, you can almost hear the laughter and joy; others you may feel the heartbreak and tears. As in our life, we must search and find those precious moments or look back to those memories. Sometimes we find the joy in the searching rather than in the finding. There will be pages you connect with, and others will make you wonder. We all have that need to reach out and just know that we have been there. There is a healing in the written words to those whose hearts they speak to. So, as you thumb through these reflections of my life and thoughts, I hope that you feel the strength and courage that it takes to just live life. Sit back and feel the warmth of the sun or the freshness of the morning dew. Life is so worth living to the fullest of our ability. I hope this brings to mind all the memories and treasures hidden away and forgotten.

Book excerpt: God has a plan and a purpose for all our lives, but so often we are not aware of what our purpose is. We have been given different gifts to serve the Body of Christ yet don't know or understand what they are. The reason for this book is to help believers to not only know who they are in Christ, but for them to begin functioning in the many gifts they have been given to serve and help build up the Body of Christ. In this book are many stories of people like you and me who, when finding out what their gifts were, not only encouraged others and blessed them, but they experienced a new joy in serving the Lord. You may think you can't be used by God now for different reasons, but God says you can! In His strength you can do everything He calls you to do. When I think back on the many years of serving the Lord, thirty-nine, I am filled with joy and thanksgiving for His love, grace, and faithfulness to me and my husband. We have been blessed to be married sixty-one years and have five married children and eleven wonderful grandchildren. We have served the Lord faithfully wherever He has placed us. I have given numerous bible studies over the years to all age groups and ministered the love of the Lord and the Word of God in nursing homes; senior's centers; a homeless shelter; and gave Bible studies for senior's at a local college, in church and in our home. My greatest challenge was to write my first book a few years ago and then this book. I am truly a blessed woman.

Download or read book The Cadence of Secrets written by Zoey Blair and published by Rockville Publishing. This book was released on 2020-10-26 with total page 339 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Who are you when expectations contradict reality? Catie Burke's life had been planned for her since the day she was born. Characterized by her pleasing smile, amenable attitude, and unwavering obedience, Catie naturally succumbed to the Burke family pressure without hesitation. Married to her high school sweetheart, Catie's trajectory inevitably leads her to the next predestined stage of life; motherhood. But for the first time, what if Catie isn't ably to comply with the rigid demands set forth by the Burke family establishment? Owning Cadence Piano wasn't part of the plan for Catie, but music was always an escape where she was permitted to make the rules, not blindly follow those put in place by her family. Sam, a client of Cadence Piano, also wasn't part of Catie's plan but the magnetism and electricity that radiates between the two is undeniable. Grappling with who she has been told she is and who she is meant to be, Catie realizes that a deviation from the plan may be the very thing she needs to find her destiny. Catie must decide whether the conditional love she has always known is worth risking for a chance at the unconditional love found where it was never expected. Editorial Reviews: ★★★★★ - What an outstanding debut novel for Ms. Blair. Absolutely fell in love with the characters. ★★★★★ - This story reminded me what it was like finding my forever love. Exquisite writing and very realistic storyline. ★★★★★ - An intimate portrayal of the conditional love of a family and the need for something more. I can't wait for her follow-up novel.
