Book Your Second Act

  • Author : Patricia Heaton
  • Publisher : Simon and Schuster
  • Release : 2020-07-21

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An entertaining book “filled with inspirational anecdotes” (People) about second acts in life and reinventing yourself from beloved television actress Patricia Heaton—Emmy Award–winning star of Everybody Love’s Raymond, The Middle, Patricia Heaton Parties, and most recently, Carol’s Second Act. Patricia Heaton is one of TV’s most recognizable and beloved moms. She’s won three Emmys, two for her starring role as Debra Barone on the long-running comedy Everybody Loves Raymond, and followed that career-making role with another gem as Frances Heck on the popular sitcom The Middle. She returned to television as the lead in the series Carol’s Second Act, which followed divorced fifty-year-old Carol Kenney (played by Heaton), who after raising two children and retiring as a teacher decides to finally pursue her dream of becoming a doctor. Patricia Heaton knows what it’s like to stage a second act and navigate pivotal transitions in life. When Heaton’s children left the nest, she found herself in a new and unfamiliar stage of life, compelling her to evaluate which direction to take next. Heaton discovered she had the time pursue passions that were previously placed on hold, both personally and professionally. She made her move and took a step forward in her career and for the first time, Heaton was not only the star of her own show, but also the executive producer. She now finds her greatest fulfillment in using her influence to support humanitarian efforts as a Celebrity Ambassador for World Vision, the world’s largest non-governmental organization. She and her husband support their work in poverty relief around the globe, something that was planted in her heart long ago. Through her own experience, Heaton became curious about other people’s stories of second-act transitions and ways to offer support in the process. Now, in Your Second Act, she shares wisdom from her own personal journey as well as insight from stories of numerous people across the country. From work to health, to love and more, the results are heartwarming, inspiring, and surprisingly relatable. “If you’ve been wanting to start your second act, Patricia Heaton may have just what you need” (Today). Filled with light-hearted anecdotes and pragmatic steps, Heaton shows us that midlife doesn’t have to be about crisis when you focus on the opportunity. After all, it’s never too late, or too early to stage your second act.

From that day forward, Arthur wasn't the same man. He treated his wife and children with indifference; he became rude, arrogant, and overbearing. It would be years before the family discovered the real truth. The situation becomes more dire years later when Chenille announces that she and her longtime boyfriend, Matt Rustin, are expecting a child. Arthur despises Matt and refuses to accept the relationship. When the baby is born, Arthur executes the unbelievable. He tells Chenille her baby died at birth and whisks her off to Austria to complete her physician training. Arthur deceives Matt by faking Chenille's death and leaving Matt to raise the child alone. Nine years later, Chenille, a successful neurosurgeon in France, mourns the loss of Matt and her baby each day. But fate intervenes when Chenille meets Ernesto Pallante, who has ties with Cosa Nostra. These men use their worldwide associations to unveil the misdeeds the family has endured. Book Bon Appetempt

Download or read book Bon Appetempt written by Amelia Morris and published by Grand Central Publishing. This book was released on 2015-02-03 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When Amelia Morris saw a towering, beautiful chocolate cake in Bon Appétit and took the recipe home to recreate it for a Christmas day brunch she was hosting, it resulted in a terrible (but tasty) mess that had to be served in an oversize bowl. It was also a revelation. Both delicious and damaged, it seemed a physical metaphor for the many curious and unexpected situations she's found herself in throughout her life, from her brief career as a six-year-old wrestler to her Brady Bunch-style family (minus the housekeeper and the familial harmony) to her ill-fated twenty-something job at the School of Rock in Los Angeles. As a way to bring order to chaos and in search of a more meaningful lifestyle, she finds herself more and more at home in the kitchen, where she begins to learn that even if the results of her culinary efforts fall well short of the standard set by glossy food magazines, they can still bring satisfaction (and sustenance) to her and her family and friends. Full of hilarious observations about food, family, unemployment, romance, and the extremes of modern L.A., and featuring recipes as basic as Toasted Cheerios and as advanced as gâteau de crêpes, Bon Appétit is sure to resonate with anyone who has tried and failed, and been all the better for it.

Book True Grunt

Download or read book True Grunt written by Billy White and published by Covenant Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2020-02-13 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: True Grunt is not about a Vietnam battle or a Vietnam journal/ memoir. It is a response to seeing short "Vietnam War 50 years later videos" on TV. These videos show two sides of the infantry in Vietnam. One side depicts the infantry fighting heroically and the other depicts the infantry committing some kind of atrocity. I served on the front lines with the infantry/grunt in 1970-1971. With many grandchildren, I don't want this mixed message to be my legacy. In those years, the infantry especially became the most maligned soldiers in our country's history. We were known as the baby killers and monsters of Vietnam. Those names continue to haunt us today. By seeing and experiencing my life as infantry-"grunt"-at that time, I hope the reader of True Grunt sees the infantry as moral men of intelligence and courage. They fought in some of the worst conditions of war. It is also a story of hope as one Vietnam Veteran regains his life, overcomes personal tragedies, and even disease from Agent Orange. It's time to project "50 years later videos" with just one message. Thousands of Vietnam grunts like myself were true to ourselves, our morals and our country. We won a great Victory in Vietnam. No asterisk needed.

He's been awarded almost every honor available, including the Nobel Prize in physics for determining the constituent that carries gravity. Then why would his country's government be conspiring to ensure his death, and is there any way it can be avoided? Enter Kate...an attractive, intelligent lady from the year 2341 who has more than a professional interest in Dr. Hughes, yet is skeptical of his character because of certain requests made by Tom's friends and colleagues. When John, Kate's ... well, sort of brother, gets thrown into the mix, things take a decidedly strange and unusual turn. Apparently, he's deeply concerned about her preoccupation with Dr. Hughes, so during a rare indecisive moment, John unwittingly instigates an event chain that sends Tom and Kate on an escapade no one could have imagined. One-Sided Doors is a dramatic, romantic, humorous, science-fiction adventure. As the story unfolds, it will lock onto your eyes and relentlessly pull them across the pages all the way until the end, which is said to be: "simple, unexpected, light-hearted, and satisfying."
