Book Warm Disease Theory Wen Bing Xue

Download or read book Warm Disease Theory Wen Bing Xue written by Wang Bing and published by Paradigm Publications. This book was released on 2003 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Chinese medicine there are four classics that all serious students are required to study. These include the Classic of Internal Medicine (Nei Jing), Treatise on Cold Damage (Shang Han Lun), Synopsis of the Golden Chamber (Jin Kui Yao Lue), and "Warm Disease Theory (Wen Bing Xue). Warm Disease Theory" is the most modern of the four classics. Although referred to as a classic, in this context, the term "classic" means an area of classical study rather than a single classical text. Even though there are numerous references to warm diseases in very ancient texts, warm disease was not developed as an independent system until the Qing dynasty. There were several schools of warm disease, dating from the Ming and Qing dynasties, but until the time this text was written there had never been an attempt to integrate their ideas into an overview. The five medical experts who most significantly influenced the development of Warm Disease theory were Wu You Ke, Ye Tian Shi, Xue Sheng Bai, Wu Ju Tong, and Wang Meng Ying. The first of these, Wu You Ke, lived in the Ming dynasty. He put forward the theory of pestilence qi (li qi) which explained the role of certain infectious factors in the etiology of communicable diseases. His was the first theory to assert that warm pathogens enter the body through the mouth and nose. He published these ideas in his "Treatise on Acute Epidemic Warmth (Wen Yi Lun)." The other four medical experts all lived and wrote during the Qing dynasty. Dr Ye Tian Shi introduced the theory that warm diseases develop and transmit through four aspects, namely the defense, qi, construction, and blood aspects. His lectures and teachings were edited by his disciples and published in the "Treatise on Warm Heat (Wen Re Lun)". Xue Sheng Bai concentrated on discussing damp-heat disease factors. He clearly explained that damp-heat usually occurs from a combination of external yang brightness and internal greater yin factors affecting each other. He published his ideas in his "Detailed Analysis of Damp-Heat (Shi Re Tiao Bian). " Dr Wu Ju Tong expanded on the ideas of Dr Ye Tian Shi by developing a system of differential diagnosis based on the pathological changes in the triple burner. He summarized his findings and published them in his "Detailed Analysis of Warm Diseases (Wen Bing Tiao Bian)." Dr Wang Meng Ying developed insights on the cause of warm fevers, their symptoms, and their treatment methods, by applying the theories set down in the "Classic of Internal Medicine and Treatise on Cold Damage" to the views of his renowned contemporaries. He published his ideas in several books, the most important of which is "Warm Disease Latitudes and Longitudes (Wen Re Jing Wei). "However, even these great Ming and Qing dynasty doctors of warm disease, on whose works this text is based, only had partial insights; their views were relatively fragmentary. "Warm Disease Theory" is the first text to integrate the views of every school, the first to undertake a comprehensive discussion of the foundations of warm disease theory and the clinical treatment of warm diseases. It is in fact such a valuable source of theoretical and therapeutic information that it is often considered a modern classic. The text is arranged in two sections. The first introduces all the basic information about warm disease, including its history, disease causes, pattern identification, and general diagnostic and treatment methods. The second section devotes a separate chapter to each of the different warm diseases. It deals with the disease factors, clinical manifestations, pulses, and treatments in the warm diseases of the four seasons including wind warmth, spring warmth, summerheat warmth, damp warmth, latent summerheat warmth, autumn dryness, and warm toxins. In each of these warm diseases, the disease concepts, etiologies, pathologies, main points of diagnosis and treatment policies are discussed first, then the patterns and treatments of their characteristic disease transformations are explained.

Book Chinese External Medicine

Download or read book Chinese External Medicine written by Hongfeng Chen and published by PMPH-USA. This book was released on 2011-05-15 with total page 852 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chinese External Medicine is a branch of TCM that is concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of conditions of the body’s surface, unlike TCM Internal Medicine whereby the focus is on internal organ systems. External medicine, or wai ke, refers to conditions that can be seen by the eye or palpated directly such as traumatic injuries, skin diseases, breast lumps, hemorrhoids, male genital problems and so on. Despite the common nature of many conditions covered by Chinese external medicine, until the publication of this book, little had been done to introduce these essential diagnostic and treatment methods to the West. Eight chapters in the text are devoted to the diagnosis and treatment of sores and ulcerations, breast conditions, goiter, skin lesions, sexually transmitted diseases, anorectal conditions, male urogenital conditions, peripheral vascular diseases and other external conditions, with 92 external conditions in total. Internal therapies, medicinal formulas, external applications, and acupuncture treatments are provided along with both Chinese pinyin and characters for easy reference. Sixty representative case studies are also presented here, making this the first comprehensive English language text on Chinese External medicine. We are sorry that the DVD content are not included.

Book excerpt: "This book was first published in Taiwan to teach Chinese medical English to Chinese students. The present U.S. edition provides English-speaking students a useful introduction to the concepts of Chinese medicine and to the English terminology described in greater detail in A Practical Dictionary of Chinese Medicine (Paradigm Publications, 1998). It is particularly suitable for those beginning to learn Chinese medicine after having studied Chinese, and for those who wish to master the English terminology for the purposes of translation.Over 800 commonly used Chinese terms are organized in thematic order. Each English term is followed by the corresponding Chinese term in simplified and complex characters, as well as Pinyin transcription. The pronunciation of the English term is given in Kenyon & Knott transcription for the benefit of non-English speakers. The definitions and clinical significance of terms are written entirely in English. At the end of each chapter, there are exercises which not only provide activities for students to do in class or at home, but also furnish teachers with examples for examination questions.Three appendixes contain answers to the quizzes, present the most important characters (with examples of their usage), and teach Taiwanese students the PRC Pinyin system." -Publisher.

Book Pediatrics in Chinese Medicine

Download or read book Pediatrics in Chinese Medicine written by Shouchuan Wang and published by PMPH-USA. This book was released on 2012-05-01 with total page 920 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pediatrics in Chinese Medicine is different from any English TCM pediatrics textbook available today, and also different from standard TCM pediatrics textbooks as written in China. As an important part of TCM clinical medicine, the essence of TCM pediatrics emphasizes the overall concept of treatment based on pattern differentiation as associated with the interchange of yin and yang, integration of form and spirit, zang-fu organ and channel theory, formulas studies, and dietary therapy and nursing, all of which guide the clinical practice of TCM pediatrics. On the basis of traditional textbooks on TCM pediatrics, and in consideration of our readership, we have added extra material on acupuncture and Tui Na. In the process of selecting diseases, we have listed those for which TCM treatments are effective and distinctive, while also taking into account the worldwide incidence of childhood diseases. For the student’s convenience, the appendices include the dosages of Chinese medicinals and formulas, patent Chinese medicines for common pediatric diseases, an index of diseases names, and commonly used English and Chinese terms.
