Book Remote Sensing in Snow Hydrology

Download or read book Remote Sensing in Snow Hydrology written by Klaus Seidel and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2004-04-07 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors of this monograph initially provide an assessment of the role of snow and ice in the global water balance, and methods of snow measurements are detailed. Periodical satellite snow-cover mapping enabling the regional distribution of snow and water equivalent is evaluated, enhancing runoff forecasts.

Book Remote Sensing of Ice and Snow

Download or read book Remote Sensing of Ice and Snow written by Dorothy Hall and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Remote sensing using aircraft and satellites has helped to open up to intensified scientific scrutiny the cold and remote regions in which snow and ice are prevalent. In this book, the utility of remote sensing for identifying, mapping and analyzing surface and subsurface properties of worldwide ice and snow features is described. Emphasis is placed on the use of remote sensing for developing an improved understanding of the physical properties of ice and snow and understanding the interrelationships of cryospheric processes with atmospheric, hydrospheric and oceanic processes. Current and potential applications of remotely sensed data are also stressed. At present, all-weather, day and night observations of the polar regions can be obtained from sensors operating in different portions of the electromagnetic spectrum. Because the approaches for analysis of remotely sensed data are not straightforward, Chapter 1 serves to introduce the reader to some of the optical, thermal and electrical properties of ice and snow as they pertain to remote sensing. In Chapter 2 we briefly describe many of the sensors and platforms that are referred to in the rest of the book. The remaining chapters deal with remote sensing of the seasonal snow cover, lake and river ice, permafrost, glacier ice and sea ice.

Book Temperature Forecasting at Logan Utah for the Snowmelt runoff Season

Download or read book Temperature Forecasting at Logan Utah for the Snowmelt runoff Season written by Clifton Welby Johnson and published by . This book was released on 1957 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this thesis is to investi gate the practicability of forecasting temperatures for the spring and summer snowmelt-runoff season. A successful temperature forecast for Logan, Utah, would be useful in studies of Logan River streamflow, as well as other related applications.

Book Satellite Remote Sensing for Operational Hydrology

Download or read book Satellite Remote Sensing for Operational Hydrology written by Eric Charles Barrett and published by Routledge. This book was released on 1990 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Traditional means of data gathering are inadequate for present purposes in hydrology and water management. Thus, hydrologists are urgently seeking new ways for supplementing their conventional data supplies. Satellite remote sensing is being explored increasingly as one possible answer to such data acquisition problems, both because of its perceived facility for providing greatly improved space and time coverage of key hydrological observation systems; and because the technologies of data acquisiton, transmission and processing have become more advanced and more capable. Although the use of remote sensing - especially from satellites - is currently less well developed in these contexts than in support of many other Earth resource and environmental sciences, much successful hydrological research has already been based upon satellite data and in limited but important ways satellite data have already begun to be used in water monitoring and management operations.

Book Principles of Snow Hydrology

Download or read book Principles of Snow Hydrology written by David R. DeWalle and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2008-07-03 with total page 482 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Principles of Snow Hydrology describes the factors that control the accumulation, melting and runoff of water from seasonal snowpacks over the surface of the earth. The book addresses not only the basic principles governing snow in the hydrologic cycle, but also the latest applications of remote sensing, and techniques for modeling streamflow from snowmelt across large mixed land-use river basins. Individual chapters are devoted to climatology and distribution of snow, snowpack energy exchange, snow chemistry, ground-based measurements and remote sensing of snowpack characteristics, snowpack management, and modeling snowmelt runoff. Many chapters have review questions and problems with solutions available online. This book is a reference book for practicing water resources managers and a text for advanced hydrology and water resources courses which span fields such as engineering, earth sciences, meteorology, biogeochemistry, forestry and range management, and water resources planning.
