Book Out Of The Shadows And Into The Light

Download or read book Out Of The Shadows And Into The Light written by W.J. Thomas III and published by Elm Hill. This book was released on 2020-05-12 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book uses the study of types and shadows to decipher the events of the larger Exodus story (slavery through the Promised Land). The material will lead the reader out of the shadows of the Old Testament into the light of the New Testament fulfillments. The purpose of this material is to challenge the reader’s understanding of the way these events have traditionally been interpreted. Alternate interpretations will be presented with accompanying reasons and scriptures. The chapters are intended to take snapshots of the six major events comprising the Exodus. They will be organized according to the following headings. The Journey out of Bondage will encompass chapters 1-3, slavery in Egypt, the establishment of the Passover, and crossing the Red Sea; The Journey in the Wilderness contains only one chapter, 4; and The Journey into Promise will complete our investigation of the Exodus story by viewing the last two events, crossing the Jordan River and entering the Promised land, chapters 5 and 6 respectively. Some chapters need an additional explanation on a particular point; an excursus is provided to promote clarity. At the end of each chapter is a Discipleship Challenge with which the reader is asked to personally apply the principles presented. A study guide is also provided for those who wish to use this material in a small/cell/life group atmosphere.

In doing so, he demonstrates that the real history of the exodus providentially serves as a paradigm of salvation. Through the three main themes of misery, deliverance, and gratitude, Exodus reveals God’s power and faithfulness in keeping His covenant promise to deliver His people from the bondage of sin to the service of grace. Book excerpt: The Knowing the Bible series is a resource designed to help Bible readers better understand and apply God’s Word. These 12-week studies lead participants through books of the Bible and are made up of four basic components: (1) Reflection questions help readers engage the text at a deeper level; (2) “Gospel Glimpses” highlight the gospel of grace throughout the book; (3) “Whole-Bible Connections” show how any given passage connects to the Bible’s overarching story of redemption, culminating in Christ; and (4) “Theological Soundings” identify how historic orthodox doctrines are taught or reinforced throughout Scripture. With contributions from an array of influential pastors and church leaders, these gospel-centered studies will help Christians see and cherish the message of God’s grace on each and every page of the Bible. The book of Exodus recounts the single most important event in Israel’s history: their escape from slavery in the land of Egypt. Tracing their journey across the Red Sea, through the wilderness, and eventually to Mount Sinai, this foundational Old Testament text highlights the supreme faithfulness and mercy of God in contrast to Israel’s consistent grumbling, rebellion, and sin—showing us that God is a God who saves sinners.

  • ISBN : 9780664252557
  • Pages : 292 pages

Download or read book Exodus written by J. Gerald Janzen and published by Westminster John Knox Press. This book was released on 1997-01-01 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book of Exodus is literally a story about "going out," and as such, it touches on something all of us have in common: each of our lives is marked by different kinds of goings out and comings in. J. Gerald Janzen reads the Exodus story as both the story of a particular people and a revelation of God's concern for the liberation and redemption of all people. The lessons of Exodus are encouraging because they hold out hope for all who are oppressed by forces over which they have no control. But the lessons are sobering also, because they caution the liberated not to perpetuate the evils under which they suffered. Books in the Westminster Bible Companion series assist laity in their study of the Bible as a guide to Christian faith and practice. Each volume explains the biblical book in its original historical context and explores its significance for faithful living today. These books are ideal for individual study and for Bible study classes and groups.

Download or read book Exodus Book on Fire written by Edward Dickson and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2012-01-17 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The divine plan in Exodus was conceived by God before the creation, because Jesus was the Lamb slain before the foundation of the world. This is the central theme of the Bible, and if a person did not know about it, the Bible would remain a mystery. The Bible has been interpreted many ways, but if we could state the theme and central message of the Bible, then we could understand it much better. Exodus offers us a portion of that plan. Exodus is a story, which makes it easy to read. It is the story of redemption and salvation and of the life of Israel afterward, in which God told them what sacrifices would please Him and how to build Him a house. Our study will include explanations of those animal sacrifices and how Christ fulfilled them. This book was written to make Exodus more enjoyable and profitable in Bible study.
