In Snakes Wear Socks, Kyle & Katy Chandler-Isacksen tell a delightful story of a little boy on a quest to find his missing socks. We meet little Jeremy just as the leaves are changing and autumn is sending a crisp chill through the land. Pumpkins are being picked. Soccer balls are flying. And Jeremy wants to play outside. He reaches into his drawer for his favorite pair of socks (the ones with the stars on them) but can only find one of them. He asks his Grandpa for advice. "But Pop!" Jeremy protests. "Snakes don't wear socks!" Follow along in Snakes Wear Socks and be surprised by the curious mystery that unfolds. It is beautifully illustrated by long-time children's book artist CD Hullinger, and perfect for bedtime or a blustery autumn afternoon. Snakes Wear Socks will delight young ones with its color, playfulness and silliness.

Book Great Grandma s Guidelines to Prevent Childhood Accidents

Download or read book Great Grandma s Guidelines to Prevent Childhood Accidents written by Florence Parry and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2013-07 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this book is to bring about a general community awareness of ALREADY KNOWN CONTRIBUTING FACTORS and PRECAUTIONS that can be taken to prevent the constant re-occurrence of PREDICTABLE childhood accidents that occur to children aged from 0 to 14 years of age. PREVENTION is BETTER than CURE - SOMETIMES there is NO CURE When a baby is born, the parents are not magically bestowed with "all the knowledge and skills of child rearing". This has to be learned. "NOT the HARD WAY by TRIAL and ERROR" Rearing children in such a way can lead to a child having to pay a very high price for his learning experience and the Carer' at the time of the accident become deeply affected by feelings of regret and sorrow. It makes more sense for parents to FIND OUT BEFORE rather than AFTER an accident has occurred the precautions they could have taken. IF ONLY THEY HAD KNOWN.

Book Saving Snakes

    Book Details:
  • Author : Nicolette L. Cagle
  • Publisher : University of Virginia Press
  • Release : 2023-01-17
  • ISBN : 0813948835
  • Pages : 235 pages

Download or read book Saving Snakes written by Nicolette L. Cagle and published by University of Virginia Press. This book was released on 2023-01-17 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Beautiful to behold and extremely sensitive to its environment, the snake is nonetheless stigmatized as a serpent, a creature that almost universally inspires fear. At a time when so many animals are endangered, who will speak up for the snake? Snake populations are declining precipitously around the globe, but calls for their conservation are muted by fear and prejudice. Saving Snakes offers a new approach to understanding snakes and preserving their populations—an approach built on respect. Nicolette Cagle has traveled the world in search of snakes, from the Midwest and the southeastern United States to Cuba, Nicaragua, and Australia, and spent decades conducting natural science research on the patterns of snakes in regions where urban development encroaches upon the natural world. Her book offers a firsthand account of the strange and secretive lives of snakes, and reveals their devastating losses. Beautifully and accessibly written, Saving Snakes entwines Cagle’s personal narrative with deep scientific and historical research. Through the author’s exploration of her evolution as a field naturalist, it provides a blueprint for developing a conservation consciousness among young people and paves the way for increased inclusivity in the male-dominated field of herpetology. While fundamentally a book about snakes, this is also the story of one woman's pursuit of her passion as she searches for, studies, and advocates for these enigmatic creatures.

Book Massachusetts Western Connecticut Adventure Guide

Download or read book Massachusetts Western Connecticut Adventure Guide written by Elizabeth Dugger and published by Hunter Publishing, Inc. This book was released on 2009 with total page 497 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "I bought this travel guide out of curiosity when I went back home to visit my parents. I grew up in N.H., went to school at UCONN, and spent a lot of time in Massachusetts - so I am familiar with the area. Sometimes, when you live in a place, however, you take your home for granted and don't see the sights in your back yard. Traveling 1500 miles back home, however, I felt like I needed to get my moneys worth (the sure sign of a native east coaster). This book led me to some incredible old towns and restaurants and shops that I had missed while living there.I highly recommend the book. It was great to have it on my laptop because after work, I was able plan the remainder of my day in a snap." -- Amazon reviewer. "I've been toting Elizabeth L. Dugger's new Adventure Guide to Massachusetts & Western Connecticut around for about a month now, ever since I received it. I had all the best intentions of being the first reviewer to publish my commentary on the travel guide, but with one project after another eating up my hours, I'm not sure that I can claim that honor. I have, however, really bulked up my biceps by lugging the Adventure Guide around! In a word, the book is "massive," and before I ever lifted the cover, I was perplexed as to how Dugger could possibly have found enough bungee jumping-, cliff diving-, and vine swinging-type adventures in the stately and somewhat subdued states of Massachusetts and Connecticut to fill 496 pages! When I opened to page 113 to find a section on "Antique Shopping on Cape Cod," I was surprised and delighted to realize that the range of adventures Dugger suggests includes those that pose great danger only to my credit card balance. In the book's introduction, Dugger explains that adventure travel "doesn't have to mean hanging from a cliff by your fingernails. " Her enormous catalog of exciting escapes includes family-friendly ideas, outdoor fun for people of all ages and abilities, out-of-the-ordinary sightseeing suggestions, and, of course, the full complement of hiking, biking, fishing, boating, and other recreational opportunities in central New England. "Adventure travel makes you feel alive, wakes you up to yourself as well as to your surroundings," Dugger explains. "Just being in open lands or along the coast, most of the time, can give you that get-away feeling. ...Adventure travel gets the blood flowing, the heart pumping." Also the author of the Adventure Guide to New Hampshire and the Adventure Guide to Vermont, Dugger quickly debunks the notion that Massachusetts is a tamer, less challenging playground than its mountainous northern neighbors. After a brief introductory section that includes a short history of Massachusetts, a map of and information on getting to the region, road rules, and safety information on such important topics as "avoiding bears," the book is broken up into six regional chapters: the Seacoast Region, Boston and Nearby Adventures, Central Massachusetts, the Pioneer Valley, the Berkshires, and the Litchfield Hills of Connecticut. Within each geographic section, adventures are organized in category groupings: On Foot, On Horseback, On Wheels, On Water, On Snow & Ice, and In the Air. Each chapter has information on Eco-Travel and where to Stay & Eat, as well. While the emphasis of this guide is decidedly on the outdoors and on planning a Massachusetts vacation that takes you to the lesser known attractions that the state offers, it is actually one of the most comprehensive and delightful guides to the region available. While many travel guides contain the obligatory paragraph on each historic attraction and sightseeing venue, the Adventure Guide to Massachusetts & Western Connecticut artfully leads the traveler to those awe-inspiring, stimulating, and unique excursions that are likely to make for a most memorable trip. Detailed maps, black and white photos, cute graphics, and sidebars on special events, kid-friendly and accessible spots, recommended reading, and mor

After graduation I married my boyfriend and moved to Atlanta. He was a student at Georgia Tech. We had 3 children and later divorced. My youngest child was Down Syndrome. He passed away this year after I wrote this book. It left a big hole in my heart. I wrote this little book so he would never be forgotten. Ive been single for 38 years. Ive been to busy to remarry.
