Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The new edition of this celebrated and long-unavailable book preserves the original book's content and structure and its unrivalled presentation of a universal method for the resolution of a class of singularities in algebraic geometry. At the same time, the book has been completely re-typeset, errors have been eliminated, proofs have been streamlined, the notation has been made consistent and uniform, an index has been added, and a guide to recent literature has been added. The book brings together ideas from algebraic geometry, differential geometry, representation theory and number theory, and will continue to prove of value for researchers and graduate students in these areas.

Book Perspectives in Analysis Geometry and Topology

Download or read book Perspectives in Analysis Geometry and Topology written by Ilia Itenberg and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-12-13 with total page 487 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The articles in this volume are invited papers from the Marcus Wallenberg symposium and focus on research topics that bridge the gap between analysis, geometry, and topology. The encounters between these three fields are widespread and often provide impetus for major breakthroughs in applications. Topics include new developments in low dimensional topology related to invariants of links and three and four manifolds; Perelman's spectacular proof of the Poincare conjecture; and the recent advances made in algebraic, complex, symplectic, and tropical geometry.

Book Abelian Varieties over the Complex Numbers

Download or read book Abelian Varieties over the Complex Numbers written by Herbert Lange and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-03-15 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook offers an introduction to abelian varieties, a rich topic of central importance to algebraic geometry. The emphasis is on geometric constructions over the complex numbers, notably the construction of important classes of abelian varieties and their algebraic cycles. The book begins with complex tori and their line bundles (theta functions), naturally leading to the definition of abelian varieties. After establishing basic properties, the moduli space of abelian varieties is introduced and studied. The next chapters are devoted to the study of the main examples of abelian varieties: Jacobian varieties, abelian surfaces, Albanese and Picard varieties, Prym varieties, and intermediate Jacobians. Subsequently, the Fourier–Mukai transform is introduced and applied to the study of sheaves, and results on Chow groups and the Hodge conjecture are obtained. This book is suitable for use as the main text for a first course on abelian varieties, for instance as a second graduate course in algebraic geometry. The variety of topics and abundant exercises also make it well suited to reading courses. The book provides an accessible reference, not only for students specializing in algebraic geometry but also in related subjects such as number theory, cryptography, mathematical physics, and integrable systems.

Book Classification of Algebraic Varieties

Download or read book Classification of Algebraic Varieties written by Ciro Ciliberto and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1994 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the proceedings of the Algebraic Geometry Conference on Classification of Algebraic Varieties, held in May 1992 at the University of L'Aquila in Italy. The papers discuss a wide variety of problems that illustrate interactions between algebraic geometry and other branches of mathematics. Among the topics covered are algebraic curve theory, algebraic surface theory, the theory of minimal models, braid groups and the topology of algebraic varieties, toric varieties. In addition to algebraic geometers, theoretical physicists in some areas will find this book useful. The book is also suitable for an advanced graduate course in algebraic geometry, as it provides an overview of areas of current research.

Book Arakelov Geometry and Diophantine Applications

Download or read book Arakelov Geometry and Diophantine Applications written by Emmanuel Peyre and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-03-10 with total page 469 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bridging the gap between novice and expert, the aim of this book is to present in a self-contained way a number of striking examples of current diophantine problems to which Arakelov geometry has been or may be applied. Arakelov geometry can be seen as a link between algebraic geometry and diophantine geometry. Based on lectures from a summer school for graduate students, this volume consists of 12 different chapters, each written by a different author. The first chapters provide some background and introduction to the subject. These are followed by a presentation of different applications to arithmetic geometry. The final part describes the recent application of Arakelov geometry to Shimura varieties and the proof of an averaged version of Colmez's conjecture. This book thus blends initiation to fundamental tools of Arakelov geometry with original material corresponding to current research. This book will be particularly useful for graduate students and researchers interested in the connections between algebraic geometry and number theory. The prerequisites are some knowledge of number theory and algebraic geometry.

Book Bounded Symmetric Domains In Banach Spaces

Download or read book Bounded Symmetric Domains In Banach Spaces written by Cho-ho Chu and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2020-09-10 with total page 406 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This timely book exposes succinctly recent advances in the geometric and analytic theory of bounded symmetric domains. A unique feature is the unified treatment of both finite and infinite dimensional symmetric domains, using Jordan theory in tandem with Lie theory. The highlights include a generalized Riemann mapping theorem, which realizes a bounded symmetric domain as the open unit ball of a complex Banach space with a Jordan structure. Far-reaching applications of this realization in complex geometry and function theory are discussed. This monograph is intended as a convenient reference for researchers and graduate students in geometric analysis, infinite dimensional holomorphy as well as functional analysis and operator theory.
