Book Smash and Carve Golf The Art of Ball Striking

Download or read book Smash and Carve Golf The Art of Ball Striking written by SCOTT. MINNI and published by . This book was released on 2024-03-28 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Smash & Carve takes you through a series of five brief lessons isolating the two crucial elements in a sound swing, CONTACT & DIRECTION, and easily explains their importance to playing your best golf. Through instructing many thousands of students since turning professional in 1985 I have found a distinct trouble pattern existing in the swings of almost all new and experienced players - the dreaded 'scoop and straight' thoughts around contact and direction that makes developing an effective swing much harder to achieve. This book will teach you how to apply the ball-to-swing theory which is the principle of striking a ball efficiently. Notice that touring pros on T.V. do not subscribe to the notion of 'scoop' which is why even the most unusual swings can still achieve great results at the ball. Smash & Carve can be both a quick-fix remedy, and provide sound long term swing development so you too can experience the... Art of Ball Striking!

Book The Locative Alternation in German

Download or read book The Locative Alternation in German written by Ursula Brinkmann and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 1997-12-31 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph deals with the locative alternation in German, a change in the argument structure of verbs like spray and load. Like most argument structure changes, the alternation is both productive and constrained: new forms may be derived, but not from all candidate verbs. This raises a learnability problem: how can children determine, in the absence of negative evidence, which verbs participate in the alternation? The Locative Alternation in German tries to answer this question by providing an in-depth analysis of the conditions that verbs must meet in order to participate in the alternation. Most importantly, transitive verbs must allow speakers to presuppose the existence of their theme argument. This condition requires the theme to be incremental so that it can be conceived of as nonindividuated (or unbounded) when the verb is used in the alternative syntactic frame. The Nonindividuation Hypothesis splits locative verbs into two types, mass verbs (like spray) and count verbs (like load), and it predicts that children acquire the alternation first for mass verbs, whose theme must be a substance and so is nonindividuated by default. Support for this hypothesis is provided in the empirical part of the book, which also provides evidence against claims in the literature that children acquire the alternation by drawing on an innate Affectness Linking Rule.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Winner of the 2019 PEN/ESPN Award for Literary Sports Writing “The Circuit is the best sports book I've read in years, maybe ever.” —Rich Cohen, author of The Chicago Cubs and Monsters “As sports writing goes, The Circuit is unusual in the very best way. Rowan Ricardo Phillips writes with such fluidity, and packs the book with bursts of brilliance. This is a compulsively readable guide to one truly Homeric year of professional tennis.” —John Green, author of The Fault in Our Stars An energetic, lyrical, genre-defying account of the 2017 tennis season. In The Circuit: A Tennis Odyssey, the award-winning poet—and Paris Review sports columnist—Rowan Ricardo Phillips chronicles 2017 as seen through the unique prism of its pivotal, revelatory, and historic tennis season. The annual tennis schedule is a rarity in professional sports in that it encapsulates the calendar year. And like the year, it’s divided into four seasons, each marked by a final tournament: the Grand Slams. Phillips charts the year from winter’s Australian Open, where Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal renewed their rivalry in a match for the ages, to fall’s U.S. Open. Along the way, Phillips paints a new, vibrant portrait of tennis, one that captures not only the emotions, nerves, and ruthless tactics of the point-by-point game but also the quicksilver movement of victory and defeat on the tour, placing that sense of upheaval within a broader cultural and social context. Tennis has long been thought of as an escapist spectacle: a bucolic, separate bauble of life. The Circuit will convince you that you don’t leave the world behind as you watch tennis—you bring it with you.

Book Smashing Balls

Download or read book Smashing Balls written by Debra Pentz and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2015-05-04 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Smashing Balls -Golf, Opening Doors for Women helps you navigate through the golf world in an easy and fun fashion. The stories inspire, entertain and educate you in the language and etiquette of golf. This book gives business women a blueprint to learn to play golf and to use golf as a business and networking tool. Getting started in golf can have its challenges and can be intimidating, especially for women. Smashing Balls will give women confidence and provide the tools to get started playing golf. Traditionally, golf lessons start in the backyard, park or driving range with a friend or relative giving instructions. They teach as they have been taught, and may use the latest tips from a golf magazine. This all seems reasonable - or does it? Why would you expect anyone to successfully hit a golf ball if they can't hit a tee ball off of a tee ball stand? Yet that is precisely what is expected of the beginner golfer. It is analogous to going into a martial arts class for the first time and be expected to smash your hand through a board. In martial arts, everyone starts at the beginning. We think that is a better model for learning and teaching complex motor skills. You may be one of those women who never developed these skills. Even if you did participate in sports when you were younger, you may need some remedial work. Your time has been devoted to careers and raising a family, so those athletic skills may be a little rusty. Let's face it, golf isn't easy to learn. However, "Smashing Balls" can make the learning process easier. The book provides a progression of carefully designed fun physical exercises. The progression is designed to advance quickly and efficiently. Let's face it, golfers want to play, not practice. The methods in this book get the beginner out on the golf course smashing the ball down the fairway as soon as possible. In addition to the physical challenges of golf, there are rules, etiquette and vocabulary to learn. Many books go into excruciating detail on these topics. For the recreational or strictly social golfer, this book sticks to the basics. Modification of some rules to make the game more enjoyable for the beginner and anyone who plays with them are recommended in the book. Over 80% of beginning golfers will not take golf lessons from a golf professional, so a golf instruction book, such as Smashing Balls, written in layman's terms will get you off to a better start.

Book excerpt: Russell 'The Voice' Watson is a star with a real story to tell. While most stars of today find success early, Russell was still working in a Salford factory at the age of 30. He spent the evenings singing in working men's clubs for extra cash to keep the bailiffs from his family's door. The chairman of Manchester United gave him his big break in May 1999: the opportunity to sing at Old Trafford. His extraordinary performance was quickly followed by a record deal and his phenomenal debut album. Despite his outward success, Russell struggled with his health and family life. His rapid rise to fame led to a bitter divorce from his childhood sweetheart and his private life being splashed across the tabloids. Then last year he was struck down by a life-threatening brain tumour. This plunged Russell into a deep depression and it was only the thought of leaving his two children fatherless that kept him going. Just when it seemed he was fully recovered he collapsed again while recording and had to have emergency surgery on a second brain tumour that threatened his voice, his sight and his life. Now, in his own words, Russell tells us the amazing story of his life.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This Great Hemisphere is an inventive and immersive epic that follows its brave invisible protagonist as she navigates a futuristic new world that often mirrors our own. A thrilling page-turner." —Brit Bennett, #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Vanishing Half From the award-winning and bestselling author of Black Buck: A speculative novel about a young woman—invisible by birth and relegated to second-class citizenship—who sets off on a mission to find her older brother, whom she had presumed dead but who is now the primary suspect in a high-profile political murder. Despite the odds, Sweetmint, a young invisible woman, has done everything right her entire life—school, university, and now a highly sought-after apprenticeship with the Northwestern Hemisphere’s premier inventor, a non-invisible man belonging to the Dominant Population who is as eccentric as he is enigmatic. But the world she has fought so hard to build after the disappearance of her older brother comes crashing down when authorities claim that not only is he well and alive, he’s also the main suspect in the murder of the Chief Executive of the Northwestern Hemisphere. A manhunt ensues, and Sweetmint, armed with courage, intellect, and unwavering love for her brother, sets off on a mission to find him before it’s too late. With five days until the hemisphere’s big election, Sweetmint must dodge a relentless law officer who’s determined to maintain order and an ambitious politician with sights set on becoming the next Chief Executive by any means necessary. With the captivating worldbuilding of N. K. Jemisin’s novels and blazing defiance of Naomi Alderman’s work, This Great Hemisphere is a novel that brilliantly illustrates the degree to which reality can be shaped by non-truths and vicious manipulations, while shining a light on our ability to surprise ourselves when we stop giving in to the narratives others have written for us.
