Book excerpt: No team can't function anymore like a rígid machine, with predefined mechanisms and protocols. However, no team can't function without any kind of organization and common language either. The key is precisely to find this grey area where we can induce a certain level of coordination and at the same time flexibility and adaptation. As coaches, one of our main responsibilities will be to generate a "Game Model". A Game Model can be understood as the common interpretative framework that will promote different patterns of coordination between our players. And coaches will have to design training sessions respecting this complex and variable nature, and training sessions where the Game Model is represented. Trainings must contain tasks of high variability that reproduce the complex nature of the game. For that purpose, the best tool we have available is the use of "Small-Sided Games"."This book is an excellent resource for any aspiring coach and provides real life examples tried and tested by Andreu. The incorporation of Small Sided Games combined with constraint based coaching, provides an excellent basis for any coach wanting to build functional, exciting and fun trainings that engage the players and provides a well-rounded development platform." Adam Commens"This book is excellent because it gives every player, coach and team the opportunity to work creatively, complex, varied and purposeful for the Competition and their development." Jamilon Mülders"Andreu Enrich takes these ideas to the next level, fully acknowledging the special mix of technical demands and speed adding an intelligent set of game specific principles that connected with an attractive variety of matching game formats." Book Team Sports Training

Download or read book Team Sports Training written by Javier Mallo and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-03-10 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Team Sports Training: The Complexity Model presents a novel approach to team sports training, examining football (soccer), rugby, field hockey, basketball, handball and futsal through the paradigm of complexity. Under a traditional prism, these sports have been analyzed using a deterministic perspective, where the constituent dimensions of the sportsmen were independently examined and treated in isolation. It was expected that the body worked as a perfect machine and, once all the components were maximized, the sportsmen improved their performance. If the same closed recipe was applied to all the players that formed part of the squad, the global team performance was expected to be enhanced. As much as these reductionistic models seem coherent, when contrasted in practice we see that the reality of team sports is far more different from the closed conditions in which they were idealized. Team sports contain variable, heterogeneous and non-linear constrains which require the development of a different logic to organize their training. During the last years, ecological psychology, the dynamical systems theory or the constraints-led approach have opened interesting fields of research from which many conceptual foundations can be applied to team sports. Based in this contemporary framework, the current book presents the study of the players and the teams as complex systems, using coordination dynamics to explain the emergence of the self-organisation episodes that characterize them. In addition, this thinking line provides the reader with the ability to apply all these innovative concepts to their practical training scenarios. Altogether, it is intended to challenge the reader to re-think their training strategy and to develop an original theory and practice of training specific to team sports.

Book The Soccer Academy 100 Defending Practices and Small Sided Games

This book was released on 2007-03-07 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Make Defending Fun! For too long, defending practice has been presented by coaches and received by players as a necessary evil, filled with unimaginative drills that provide players with little or no reward for getting it right. This book contains 100 exercises and small sided games designed to inspire players to become better defenders both tactically and technically in a fun and competitive training environment. The games are set up to re-create the unpredictability of actual match play, with no long queues or endless repetitions. Because of this, players are more involved in the practice and are thus learning "how to play the game" and developing the skills to deal with the ever-evolving situations on the pitch.

Book Developing a Guardiola Approach

Download or read book Developing a Guardiola Approach written by Thefootballcoach and published by . This book was released on 2021-07-13 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since its release, this really has become one of the most popular coaching books in the world. The book looks to provide insight into the work of Pep Guardiola, the book looks through a six-week mesocycle and how the sessions might be delivered, and what might be delivered within this specific block. The amount of detail within these sessions will provide coaches with a 6-week opportunity to train players to play a more positional based practice, with a much greater understanding of how to keep possession, and how to attack through positional dominance. The book does however provide great detail in how to successfully defend whilst using a Guardiola-like game model. It also shows how the positional dominance of Guardiola's teams actually allows them to be successful both with and without the ball. The sessions should provide more detail than any book has ever provided before, as well as expose some myths as to how positional play can be developed.

Book In My Tribe

Book excerpt: In this riveting follow-up to the best-seller Everything Your Coach Never Told You Because You're a Girl, Coach Dan Blank takes aim at the warm and fuzzy double-standard facing those who coach female athletes, and reveals the philosophies and methods that sparked a culture of unapologetic competitiveness in a women’s college soccer team that won more games than it was ever supposed to win. In My Tribe is written specifically for coaches looking to develop a competitive culture within their teams, and recounts the author's experience coaching a group of rebellious over-achievers who became notorious for their commitment to extinguishing the spirit of their opponents. In My Tribe details Coach Blank’s unconventional approach to culture-building, from selecting captains and indoctrinating rookies, to aggression, accountability and self-governance. This book also includes a Tools of the Tribe section – specific exercises that helped to build a culture where teammates were ferociously loyal, where everyone was accountable, and where winning was the only acceptable outcome. Written in Blank’s familiar, pull-no-punches style, In My Tribe speaks directly to coaches who strive to build a competitive culture that teaches girls to win, win big, and to never, ever apologize for it.
