Book Small scale Rural Biogas Programmes

Download or read book Small scale Rural Biogas Programmes written by David Fulford and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Renewable energy is becoming crucially important, as concern over burning fossil fuels is increasing and the price of oil continues to rise. Biogas technology has undergone great developments since the first designs in the 1970s. Large national projects are working very effectively in countries such as Nepal, India and China, where hundreds of thousands of biogas plants have been installed; and Europe has a fast-growing interest in biogas technology. This book focuses on biogas extension programmes in these countries, and demonstrates the applicability of the technology elsewhere. It provides a comprehensive overview of the existing knowledge covering: the history of biogas programmes, the technology behind them, the value of biogas effluent as compost, details of the main domestic biogas plant designs, how biogas extension programmes work, and how they could be replicated. It includes detailed diagrams and appendices on the design of biogas plants. This is essential reading for those running biogas plants, as well as students of renewable energy and engineering.

Book Sustainable Energy in Kazakhstan

Download or read book Sustainable Energy in Kazakhstan written by Yelena Kalyuzhnova and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-07-06 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Kazakhstan is rich in natural resources including coal, oil, natural gas and uranium and has significant renewable potential from wind, solar, hydro and biomass. In spite of this, the country is currently dependent upon fossil fuels with coal-fired plants accounting for 75% of total power generation leading to concerns over greenhouse gas emissions and impacts on human health and the environment. This book analyses the implications of the global shift to cleaner energy for a country whose economy has centred on hydrocarbon exports. The challenge is urgent for Kazakhstan, whose recent economic growth has driven increased demand for energy services, making the construction of additional generating capacity increasingly necessary for enabling sustained growth. In this context, renewable energy resources are becoming an increasingly attractive option to help bridge the demand-supply gap. Chapters written by experts in the field provide a comprehensive review of the current energy situation in Kazakhstan including fossil energy and renewable resources and analyses policy drivers for the energy sector. Emphasising that clean energy covers a variety of renewables, as well as cleaner use of hydrocarbons, this book argues that future technological change will affect the relative attractiveness of the various choices. Recognising technical, geographical and domestic and international political constraints on policymakers’ options, this book will be of interest to an interdisciplinary audience in the fields of resource management and clean energy, development economics and Central Asian Studies.

Book Bioenergy Production by Anaerobic Digestion

Download or read book Bioenergy Production by Anaerobic Digestion written by Nicholas Korres and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-08-29 with total page 473 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Interest in anaerobic digestion (AD), the process of energy production through the production of biogas, has increased rapidly in recent years. Agricultural and other organic waste are important substrates that can be treated by AD. This book is one of the first to provide a broad introduction to anaerobic digestion and its potential to turn agricultural crops or crop residues, animal and other organic waste, into biomethane. The substrates used can include any non-woody materials, including grass and maize silage, seaweeds, municipal and industrial wastes. These are all systematically reviewed in terms of their suitability from a biological, technical and economic perspective. In the past the technical competence and high capital investment required for industrial-scale anaerobic digesters has limited their uptake, but the authors show that recent advances have made smaller-scale systems more viable through a greater understanding of optimising bacterial metabolism and productivity. Broader issues such as life cycle assessment and energy policies to promote AD are also discussed.
