Book Model Tests and Numerical Simulations of Liquefaction and Lateral Spreading

Download or read book Model Tests and Numerical Simulations of Liquefaction and Lateral Spreading written by Bruce L. Kutter and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-01-01 with total page 660 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book presents work collected through the Liquefaction Experiments and Analysis Projects (LEAP) in 2017. It addresses the repeatability, variability, and sensitivity of lateral spreading observed in twenty-four centrifuge model tests on mildly sloping liquefiable sand. The centrifuge tests were conducted at nine different centrifuge facilities around the world. For the first time, a sufficient number of experiments were conducted to enable assessment of variability of centrifuge test results. The experimental data provided a unique basis for assessing the capabilities of twelve different simulation platforms for numerical simulation of soil liquefaction. The results of the experiments and the numerical simulations are presented and discussed in papers submitted by the project participants. The work presented in this book was followed by LEAP-Asia that included assessment of a generalized scaling law and culminated in a workshop in Osaka, Japan in March 2019. LEAP-2020, ongoing at the time of printing, is addressing the validation of soil-structure interaction analyses of retaining walls involving a liquefiable soil. A workshop is planned at RPI, USA in 2020. .

Book Practical Soil Dynamics

    Book Details:
  • Author : Milutin Srbulov
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2011-06-17
  • ISBN : 9400713126
  • Pages : 280 pages

Download or read book Practical Soil Dynamics written by Milutin Srbulov and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-06-17 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of this book is to fill some of the gaps in the existing engineering codes and standards related to soil dynamics, concerning issues in earthquake engineering and ground vibrations, by using formulas and hand calculators. The usefulness and accuracy of the simple analyses are demonstrated by their implementation to the case histories available in the literature. Ideally, the users of the volume will be able to comment on the analyses as well as provide more case histories of simple considerations by publishing their results in a number of international journals and conferences. The ultimate aim is to extend the existing codes and standards by adding new widely accepted analyses in engineering practice. The following topics have been considered in this volume: • main ground motion sources and properties • typical ground motions, recording, ground investigations and testing • soil properties used in simple analyses • fast sliding in non-liquefied soil • flow of liquefied sandy soil • massive retaining walls • slender retaining walls • shallow foundations • piled foundations • tunnels, vertical shafts and pipelines • ground vibration caused by industry. Audience: This book is of interest to geotechnical engineers, engineering geologists, earthquake engineers and students

Book Landmarks in Earth Reinforcement

Download or read book Landmarks in Earth Reinforcement written by Hidetoshi Ochiai and published by Taylor & Francis US. This book was released on 2001 with total page 796 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Earth reinforcing techniques are increasingly becoming a useful, powerful and economical solution to various problems encountered in geotechnical engineering practice. Expansion of the experiences and knowledge in this area has succeeded in developing new techniques and their applications to geotechnical engineering problems. In order to discuss the latest experiences and knowledge, and with the purpose of spreading them all over the world for further development, the IS Kyushi conference series on the subject of earth reinforcement have been held in Fukuoka, Japan, every four years since 1988. This fourth symposium, entitled Landmarks in Earth Reinforcement, is a continuation of the series IS Kyushu conferences, and also aims at being one of the landmarks in the progress of modern earth reinforcement practice. The first volume contains 137 papers selected for the symposium covering almost every aspect of earth reinforcement. The second volume contains texts of the special and keynote lectures.

Book Aeroplane Construction Operation and Maintenance

Download or read book Aeroplane Construction Operation and Maintenance written by John B. Rathbun and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2008-09-01 with total page 403 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When this seventh edition of Aeroplane Construction, Operation and Maintenance was originally published in 1929, America was in the middle of a Golden Age of Flight. More companies were building airplanes than were building cars, and men like Charles Lindbergh and Roscoe Turner dominated the headlines. Created to educate aviators and the public about aviation technology, John B. Rathbun¿s book quickly became standard issue at many flight schools. Nearly 400 pages long, and richly illustrated with period photos and diagrams, the book covers aerodynamics, constrution details, performance, flight techniques, control systems, and many other topics. It also includes a glossary of terms that¿s straight out of the barnstorming era.

Book Traffic and Granular Flow 03

Download or read book Traffic and Granular Flow 03 written by Serge P. Hoogendoorn and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-08-15 with total page 593 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These proceedings are the fifth in the series Traffic and Granular Flow, and we hope they will be as useful a reference as their predecessors. Both the realistic modelling of granular media and traffic flow present important challenges at the borderline between physics and engineering, and enormous progress has been made since 1995, when this series started. Still the research on these topics is thriving, so that this book again contains many new results. Some highlights addressed at this conference were the influence of long range electric and magnetic forces and ambient fluids on granular media, new precise traffic measurements, and experiments on the complex decision making of drivers. No doubt the “hot topics” addressed in granular matter research have diverged from those in traffic since the days when the obvious analogies between traffic jams on highways and dissipative clustering in granular flow intrigued both c- munities alike. However, now just this diversity became a stimulating feature of the conference. Many of us feel that our joint interest in complex systems, where many simple agents, be it vehicles or particles, give rise to surprising and fascin- ing phenomena, is ample justification for bringing these communities together: Traffic and Granular Flow has fostered cooperation and friendship across the scientific disciplines.
