Book Cost effective and Sustainable Road Slope Stabilization and Erosion Control

Download or read book Cost effective and Sustainable Road Slope Stabilization and Erosion Control written by Laura Fay and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 2012 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "In the United States it is estimated that 75 percent of all roads are low volume roads maintained by some 35,000 local agencies. Low volume roads often omit surface slope protection, and this can lead to slope failure, erosion, and maintenance, safety, and ecological issues. This report presents information on cost effective and sustainable road slope stabilization techniques, with a focus on shallow or near surface slope stabilization and related erosion control methods used on low volume roads. To fully address this topic, planning and site investigation are discussed, as well as erosion control techniques, soil bioengineering and biotechnical techniques, mechanical stabilization, and earthwork techniques. Information presented in this report was obtained through an extensive literature review, and from survey and interview responses. From the survey responses, 30 individuals were interviewed based on the information they made available in the survey. A total of 25 interviews were conducted over the phone, and in two cases written responses were received"--Preface.

Sustainable and Safe Dams Around the World contains the contributions presented at the 2019 Symposium of the International Commission on Large Dams (ICOLD 2019, Ottawa, Canada, 9-14 June 2019). The main topics of the book include: 1. Innovation (recent advancements and techniques for investigations, design, construction, operation and maintenance of water or tailings dams and spillways) 2. Sustainable Development (planning, design, construction, operation, decommissioning and closure management strategies for water resources or tailings dams, e.g. climate change, sedimentation, environmental protection, risk management). 3. Hazards (design mitigation and management of hazards to water or tailings dams, appurtenant structures, spillways and reservoirs (e.g. floods, seismic, landslides). 4. Extreme Conditions (management for water or tailings dams (e.g. permafrost and ice loading, arid/wet climates, geo-hazards). 5. Tailings (design, construction, operation and closure for tailings dams; recent advancements and best practice) Sustainable and Safe Dams Around the World will be invaluable to academics and professionals interested or involved in dams.

Book Slope Stabilization and Erosion Control A Bioengineering Approach

Download or read book Slope Stabilization and Erosion Control A Bioengineering Approach written by Roy P.C. Morgan and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2003-09-02 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is an up-to-date review of research and practice on the use of vegetation for slope stabilization and control of surface erosion caused by water and wind. From a basic understanding of the principles and practices of vegetation growth and establishment, it describes how vegetation can be treated as an engineering material and used to solve erosion and slope stability problems.

Book Slope Stability and Erosion Control Ecotechnological Solutions

Download or read book Slope Stability and Erosion Control Ecotechnological Solutions written by Joanne E. Norris and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-02-29 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book aims to assist in choosing ecotechnological solutions for slopes that are prone to a variety of mass movements e.g. shallow failure or erosion. The book reviews the types of problematic slopes that may occur and describes briefly the nature of mass movements and the causes of these movements. There is focus on the use of vegetation to stabilize soil on slopes prone to mass movements. The book also introduces new ecotechnological methods, and case studies are discussed.

Book Utilization of Soil cement as Slope Protection for Earth Dams

Download or read book Utilization of Soil cement as Slope Protection for Earth Dams written by Wesley G. Holtz and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The high cost of riprap facings for earth dams has indicated a need for investigating other methods for slope protection. Properties of such facings may be divided into two parts: erosion resistance to wave action and climatic conditions, and properties which influence the performance of the structure protected. Starting with developments for soil-cement in highway construction, modifications were evaluated through a series of laboratory tests to establish a basic mix and construction procedure for an experimental test section. The test section location and design were selected to secure test conditions representative of the maximum likely to be encountered. The results of a 10-year performance test are evaluated and modifications in mix design, construction procedure, and structure design determined for application to a dam presently under construction. Suggestions for selecting soils, performing laboratory tests, evaluating test results, and modifying designs to make soil-cement facings applicable are given. (Author).
