Book Sleeping Beauty Original Text with Classic Illustrations

Download or read book Sleeping Beauty Original Text with Classic Illustrations written by Charles Perrault and published by . This book was released on 2014-05-20 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Veiled in a thick and thorny wood, an enchanted princess lies sleeping for a century, awaiting a prince, whose time has come to break the spell. The original tale of The Sleeping Beauty in the Wood was written by Charles Perrault, inventor of the modern fairy tale and creator of such timeless characters as Little Red Riding Hood and Puss in Boots. It is among the most beautiful and enduring of all stories, and has inspired hundreds of adaptations, including Disney's Sleeping Beauty and Maleficent. This edition combines Søren Filipski's lively modern translation with two famous sets of vintage illustrations: E. Monnin's lavish engravings from the great 1843 Curmer edition and those of the French master Gustave Doré, from Tales from Mother Goose. Both sets provide a rich, dramatic visual compliment to this haunting tale of love and the passage of time. Also included in the translation is the continuing story of the Princess's life in the years after she awakes, omitted from nearly all modern editions.

Download or read book The Sleeping Beauty and Other Tales written by Charles Perrault and published by The Planet. This book was released on 2011-11-20 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book includes five famous tales of Charles Perrault illustrated by Walter Crane (40 color illustrations): Little Red Riding Hood; The Master Cat, or Puss in Boots; Blue Beard; The Sleeping Beauty in the Woods; Cinderella, or The Little Glass Slipper. Walter Crane was a prominent book illustrator of the 19th century. In cooperation with Edmund Evans, he designed picture books printed in color, which became the most popular children’s books at the time thanks to their high level of craftsmanship and low price. Crane’s style shows the influence of the art of the Renaissance and Japanese prints (ukiyo-e). He designed his books according to the belief that “children, like the ancient Egyptians, appear to see most things in profile and like definite statements in design. They prefer well-defined forms and bright, frank color. They don’t want to bother about three dimensions. They can accept symbolic representations. They themselves employ drawing... as a kind of picture-writing and eagerly follow a pictured story.” Crane’s work set the standards of taste in the Victorian children’s book industry and earned him the reputation of “the father of the illustrated children’s book”.

This book was released on 2013-04-16 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Sleeping Beauty and Other Fairy Tales from the Old French contains a collection of stories, adapted and translated by Sir Arthur Thomas Quiller-Couch. Quiller-Couch was a Cornish writer, who published under the pen-name of Q. Originally penned by such famed folklorists as Charles Perrault and Madame D’Aulnoy, these stories proved to their original seventeenth century readers that such works were important, enjoyable, as well as thought-provoking. The stories in this particular text encompass favourites such as ‘Sleeping Beauty, ‘Blue Beard’, ‘Cinderella, or the Little Glass Slipper’, and ‘Beauty and the Beast.’ This edition of Sleeping Beauty and Other Fairy Tales further contains a set of dazzling coloured illustrations by a true master of the ‘Golden Age’; Edmund Dulac (1882 – 1953). A French artist himself, Dulac had a particular affinity with these Old French tales as well as a rigorously painterly background. The end result was beautifully coloured images which further refined the wonderful stories of Perrault, D’Aulnoy – retold by Arthur Quiller-Couch. Appearing alongside the text, his illustrations enhance and elucidate the enchanting narratives.

Book The Sleeping Beauty Illustrated by Arthur Rackham

Download or read book The Sleeping Beauty Illustrated by Arthur Rackham written by C. S. Evans and published by Read Books Ltd. This book was released on 2013-04-16 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The tale of The Sleeping Beauty is here retold by C. S. Evans, and illustrated by Arthur Rackham. Charles Seddon Evans (1883 – 1944) was an immensely well respected writer, editor and folklorist, who brings this magical story to life. He wrote this version of The Sleeping Beauty as a companion volume to Cinderella, also illustrated by Arthur Rackham. Evans expanded Charles Perrault’s original story of Cendrillon ou, La Petite Pantoufle de verre, and followed the later version recorded by the Brothers Grimm in giving his heroine the name of Briar-Rose. His version of Sleeping Beauty is similarly thought-through. It is a tale sure to delight both young and old – unique in its truly captivating narrative. This story of The Sleeping Beauty is further told with Rackham's wonderfully intricate black-and-white and colour silhouette illustrations. Arthur Rackham (1867-1939)is one of the most celebrated painters of the British Golden Age of Illustration (which encompassed the years from 1850 until the start of the First World War). Rackham's artistry is quite simply, unparalleled. Throughout his career, he developed a unique style, combining haunting humour with dream-like romance. Presented alongside the text, his illustrations further refine and elucidate Evan’s enchanting storytelling. Pook Press celebrates the great ‘Golden Age of Illustration‘ in children’s literature – a period of unparalleled excellence in book illustration from the 1880s to the 1930s. Our collection showcases classic fairy tales, children’s stories, and the work of some of the most celebrated artists, illustrators and authors.
