Download or read book Fork Tail Devil written by James G. Speight and published by Author House. This book was released on 2015 with total page 451 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This is an American story as told to me during many conversations that I had over a four-year period with Robert Carl Milliken (Bob). The book is important because it tells of men and women who stood up to be counted when their country called people whose deeds are fading into history and soon may be forgotten. The book incorporates the early history of Wyoming by starting with the first arrival of Bobs family in the Wyoming Territory before Statehood was conferred and follows the events which led Bob to his actions as a World War II Fighter Ace (he flew 68 combat missions). For the reader, I have also placed Bob's life in the perspective of the parallel actions that occurred in the Western United States and then during World War II in the European and Pacific Theaters. The book will serve as a reminder for those readers who are not familiar with the events of World War II but who will appreciate and understand events outside of their own experience. In addition, it will help the families of World War II veterans to remember with pride the men and women who answered the call of their country. And last but definitely not least, there is also Zella's story, the young woman who Bob married on August 25 1946, and who bore four children, three daughters and one son. Zella's family history is also interesting; the family can be traced back to 1617 in England and she is a descendent of one of the two regicide judges who authorized the execution of King Charles I of England after he was deposed by the forces of Oliver Cromwell during the English Civil War (1642-1649). Furthermore, this book is not only a tribute to Bob and Zella but also to Zella's brother Bobby (Master Sergeant Robert Lewis Bell) who saw action on many missions as the belly gunner in a B-24 bomber and who researched the history of the Bell family in considerable detail."--
Download or read book Bringing Nature Home written by Douglas W. Tallamy and published by Timber Press. This book was released on 2009-09-01 with total page 361 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “With the twinned calamities of climate change and mass extinction weighing heavier and heavier on my nature-besotted soul, here were concrete, affordable actions that I could take, that anyone could take, to help our wild neighbors thrive in the built human environment. And it all starts with nothing more than a seed. Bringing Nature Home is a miracle: a book that summons butterflies." —Margaret Renkl, The Washington Post As development and habitat destruction accelerate, there are increasing pressures on wildlife populations. In his groundbreaking book Bringing Nature Home, Douglas W. Tallamy reveals the unbreakable link between native plant species and native wildlife—native insects cannot, or will not, eat alien plants. When native plants disappear, the insects disappear, impoverishing the food source for birds and other animals. Luckily, there is an important and simple step we can all take to help reverse this alarming trend: everyone with access to a patch of earth can make a significant contribution toward sustaining biodiversity by simply choosing native plants. By acting on Douglas Tallamy's practical and achievable recommendations, we can all make a difference.
Download or read book Drogons 3 Victims Of The Victoriuos written by Hells Lefse and published by America Star Books. This book was released on 2015-04-27 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sven, Ole, Asil, Einer and their friends are about to embark on one of the most heart-rending adventures of their lives. They will be joined by their friends Kavan, Parkurkarkuss and McCorn in an effort to rescue Kavan’s family from the Russian zone of occupied Germany. Atrocities committed by the Nazi’s are well documented. Educational institutes and even museums teach the world about the plight and suffering of the Jews and other minorities that were displaced from their homes and businesses, tortured and killed during the Nazi regime. These well-meaning organizations are there to make sure we never forget the holocaust that took place in Hitler’s Nazi Germany. History and education have told of the suffering and death reeked upon the countries that the Germans overran and occupied. After the unconditional surrender of Germany and its occupation by the allied nations the German people would be treated much the same as they had treated the countries that they had defeated. For the German survivors would soon be displaced from their homes, have their possessions and business taken away from them. The basic needs of life would be allowed only at sustenance levels. After Germany surrendered, a new virtually ‘unknown holocaust’ took place. From 1945-1950 the allies expelled or forced more than 14 million Germans from their ancestral homes. 4 million German citizens were sent away as forced labor, most of these went to Russia never to return. More than 2 million Germans were killed or lost their lives. Over 2 million women from the ages of 9 to 90 were raped. Many of them did not survive or were mutilated for life. In the winter of 1945-1946, the allies forbid any nation to send food or aid to the starving Germans. The allied authorities even rejected requests by the international Red Cross to bring provisions to alleviate the suffering of the German people. The most common response to allied atrocities was to say, “The Germans got what the deserved.” Many of the things you will read in this story are true and based on facts. There are books and resources available on line or at your library for those of you who would like to do further research. I hope that the ‘truth’ be it good or bad will help humanity not to repeat the same mistakes in the future. What was left of the German population had become the Victims of the Victorious.
Download or read book The Moor s Last Sigh written by Salman Rushdie and published by Vintage. This book was released on 2011-02-16 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Time Magazine's Best Book of the Year Booker Prize-winning author Salman Rushdie combines a ferociously witty family saga with a surreally imagined and sometimes blasphemous chronicle of modern India and flavors the mixture with peppery soliloquies on art, ethnicity, religious fanaticism, and the terrifying power of love. Moraes "Moor" Zogoiby, the last surviving scion of a dynasty of Cochinese spice merchants and crime lords, is also a compulsive storyteller and an exile. As he travels a route that takes him from India to Spain, he leaves behind a tale of mad passions and volcanic family hatreds, of titanic matriarchs and their mesmerized offspring, of premature deaths and curses that strike beyond the grave. "Fierce, phantasmagorical...a huge, sprawling, exuberant novel."--New York Times From the Trade Paperback edition.
