Book Skarns in British Columbia

Download or read book Skarns in British Columbia written by Gerald E. Ray and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Skarns in British Columbia have historically been important sources of iron, tungsten, copper, and gold. This publication begins with an introduction on skarn terminology and the problems of skarn identification. It then reviews a genetic model of skarn formation and presents descriptive profiles of eight types of skarn deposits; describes the database of at least 735 skarn occurrences in the province, and the number and distribution of skarns in British Columbia according to their associations, class, age, and distribution; and notes the ages of British Columbia skarns and the total production of various metals extracted from British Columbia skarns. Subsequent sections provide information on assays and metal ratios of mineralized skarns, skarn mineralogy, skarn mineral chemistry, chemistry of skarn-related intrusions, and the mapping and evaluation of skarns. The appendix contains a listing of 735 skarn occurrences in British Columbia, giving deposit name, MINFILE number, latitude/longitude, elements and minerals present, and associated rocks and their ages.

Book Precious Metal Enriched Skarns in British Columbia

Download or read book Precious Metal Enriched Skarns in British Columbia written by A. D. Ettlinger and published by Province of British Columbia, Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources, Geological Survey Branch. This book was released on 1989 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite the well-documented 60-year history of major gold production from the world-class Nickel Plate mine in B.C., precious metal enriched (PME) skarns have only recently been recognized as a distinct class of skarn deposit. This paper is the result of studies that involved geological mapping of some selected skarn camps, extensive literature research and various laboratory studies, including whole-rock and trace element analyses, petrographic examination of sulphide and calc-silicate assemblages, and electron microprobe analyses of various garnet and pyroxene mineral phases associated with the skarn alteration. The report gives relevant data on the proven and potential PME skarns in B.C. and outlines their various characteristics, including distribution, mineralogy, geochemistry, geological controls and classification.

Download or read book Empirical Metallogeny written by Peter Laznicka and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 1039 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Empirical Metallogeny: Depositional Environments, Lithologic Associations, and Metallic Ores, Vol. 1: Phanerozoic Environments, Associations, and Deposits focuses on the composition, characteristics, properties, and reactions of Phanerozoic metallic ore deposits. The book first offers information on depositional environments and lithologic associations and the world ocean, including ores and host associations, sea water as a metal source, and metals in marine organisms. The text then elaborates on continental margins, orogenic belts, and ophiolite association. Discussions focus on metal geochemistry and metallogeny, tectonic setting and distribution of ophiolites, trace metals and ore evolution, and supracrustal lithologic associations of orogenic belts. The publication tackles zoned mafic/ultramafic complexes in Phanerozoic orogenic belts; unimodal mafic volcanic-sedimentary association; and unimodal felsic volcanic-sedimentary association. Topics include post-depositional modification of massive sulfides, and interaction mineralization and massive tholeiitic basalt flows and arc affiliation. The book is a dependable source of information for readers wanting to study metallic ores.

Book Understanding Mineral Deposits

Download or read book Understanding Mineral Deposits written by Kula Misra and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 857 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mineral deposits have supplied useful or valuable material for human consumption long before they became objects of scientific curiosity or commercial exploitation. In fact, the earliest human interest in rocks was probably because of the easily accessible, useful (e. g. , red pigment in the form of earthy hematite) or valuable (e. g. , native gold and gemstones) materials they contained at places. In modem times, the study of mineral deposits has evolved into an applied science employing detailed field observations, sophisticated laboratory techniques for additional information, and computer modeling to build complex hypotheses. Understanding concepts that would someday help geologists to find new mineral deposits or exploit the known ones more efficiently have always been, and will continue to be, at the core of any course on mineral deposits, but it is a fascinating subject in its own right, even for students who do not intend to be professional economic geologists. I believe that a course on mineral deposits should be designed as a "capstone course" that illustrates a comprehensive application of concepts from many other disciplines in geology (mineralogy, stratigraphy and sedimentation, structure and tectonics, petrology, geochemistry, paleontology, geomorphology, etc. ). This book is intended as a text for such an introductory course in economic geology, primarily for senior undergraduate and graduate students in colleges and universities. It should also serve as a useful information resource for professional economic geologists.

Book Phanerozoic Environments Associations and Deposits

Download or read book Phanerozoic Environments Associations and Deposits written by and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 761 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the most comprehensive, all-embracing, single source of data on metallic deposits and their worldwide distribution. With over 1,750 pages it contains: 594 figures illustrating ore styles and their setting; 113 tables providing concise but highly quantitative data on several thousand locality examples; 4 indexes (general, locality, genetic, metals) enabling rapid and thorough searches; and more than 2,000 references. This vast body of information on metallic ore deposits is arranged by environments in which they presently form or lithologic associations in which they occur. The organization of the book follows the approach employed in regional mineral-potential evaluation and exploration. Long-lasting, objectively observable host units and empirical indicators of ore presence are stressed. The coverage is balanced and truly worldwide, based on original literature consulted in over 30 languages and on the author's personal familiarity with more than 2,000 ore deposits located in 85 countries. The book is a must for practising exploration geologists, petrologists, and economic geologists, as well as for specialists in various other branches of geology (e.g. glacial geologists, carbonate sedimentologists, volcanologists, and geochemists). Teachers and students will find this most complete data sourcebook an ideal supplement to the theory and basic data found in textbooks.

Book Ore Deposit Geology and its Influence on Mineral Exploration

Download or read book Ore Deposit Geology and its Influence on Mineral Exploration written by Richard Edwards and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 563 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why another book about Ore Deposits? There are a number of factors which motivated us to write this text and which may provide an answer to this question. Firstly our colleagues are predominantly mining engineers and minerals processing technologists, which provides us with a different perspective of ore deposits from many academic geologists. Secondly we have found that most existing texts are either highly theoretical or merely descriptive: we have attempted to examine the practical implications of the geological setting and genetic models of particular ore deposit types. We have written the text primarily for undergraduates who are taking options in Economic Geology towards the end of a Degree Course in Geology. However, we hope that the text will also prove valuable to geologists working in the mining industry. The text is to a large extent based on a review of the existing literature up to the end of 1984. However, we have visited most of the mining districts cited in the text and have also corresponded extensively with geologists to extend our knowledge beyond the published literature. Nonetheless writing a text-book on Ore Deposits is a demanding task and it is inevitable that sins of both omission and commission have been committed. We would therefore welcome comments from readers which can be incorporated in future editions.
