Book Quantitative Analysis in Nuclear Medicine Imaging

Download or read book Quantitative Analysis in Nuclear Medicine Imaging written by Habib Zaidi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-07-11 with total page 593 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a review of image analysis techniques as they are applied in the field of diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine. Driven in part by the remarkable sophistication of nuclear medicine instrumentation and - crease in computing power and its ready and inexpensive availability, this is a relatively new yet rapidly expanding field. Likewise, although the use of nuclear imaging for diagnosis and therapy has origins dating back almost to the pioneering work of Dr G. de Hevesy, quantitative imaging has only recently emerged as a promising approach for diagnosis and therapy of many diseases. An effort has, therefore, been made to place the reviews provided in this book in a broader context. The effort to do this is reflected by the inclusion of introductory chapters that address basic principles of nuclear medicine instrumentation and dual-modality imaging, followed by overview of issues that are closely related to quantitative nuclear imaging and its potential role in diagnostic and therapeutic applications. A brief overview of each chapter is provided below. Chapter 1 presents a general overview of nuclear medicine imaging physics and instrumentation including planar scintigraphy, single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) and positron emission tomography (PET). Nowadays, patients’ diagnosis and therapy is rarely done without the use of imaging technology. As such, imaging considerations are incorporated in almost every chapter of the book. The development of dual-modality - aging systems is an emerging research field, which is addressed in chapter 2.

Book The Practice of Internal Dosimetry in Nuclear Medicine

Download or read book The Practice of Internal Dosimetry in Nuclear Medicine written by Michael G. Stabin and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2016-10-14 with total page 219 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written by one of the world's leading experts in the field of nuclear medicine dosimetry, this text describes in detail the use of internal dose calculations in the practice of nuclear medicine. While radiation therapy with external sources of radiation always employs calculations of dose to optimize therapy for each patient, this is not routinely conducted in nuclear medicine therapy. As the trend towards an increasing role of dosimetry in therapy planning increases, this book reviews the available methods and technologies available to make this a more common practice. The book begins by covering the mathematical fundamentals of internal dose calculations, and uses sample calculations to demonstrate key principles. The book then moves forward to describe anthropomorphic models, dosimetric models, and types and uses of diagnostic and therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals. The depth of coverage makes it useful reference and guide for researchers performing dose calculations and for physicians considering incorporating dose calculations into the treatment of their cancer patients.

Book Nuclear Oncology

    Book Details:
  • Author : Duccio Volterrani
  • Publisher : Springer Nature
  • Release : 2022-10-04
  • ISBN : 3031054946
  • Pages : 2241 pages

Download or read book Nuclear Oncology written by Duccio Volterrani and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-10-04 with total page 2241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses the role of nuclear medicine in the diagnosis, staging, and treatment of patients with specific cancers. It presents the incidence, pathophysiologic and clinical aspects of the disease, the use of nuclear imaging in diagnosis, staging requirements, management of specific tumors, and surveillance after primary treatment of cancers. It addresses the various diagnostic/therapeutic options that are currently available or are most likely to become available in the near future according to a prioritized approach, thereby keeping to a minimum the number of diagnostic imaging procedures the patient is expected to undergo. Topics include basic science, clinical applications, radionuclide therapy, radioguided surgery, heart disease in the cancer patient, and adverse effects of cancer therapy. Each clinical chapter discusses the radionuclide procedures within an integrated framework, thereby identifying the information required for effective treatment of specific tumors. The book concludes with a series of updated cases that define and expand the didactic material in the clinical application chapters. Thoroughly updated and revised, the third edition incorporates new clinical evidence validating the use of radionuclides for diagnosis and therapy in oncology, new radiotracers, and the growing integration of imaging modalities into different types of hybrid imaging. With contributions from a group of internationally distinguished practitioners, Nuclear Oncology: From Pathophysiology to Clinical Applications, Third Edition, is a valuable reference for nuclear medicine physicians, radiologists, medical and surgical oncologists, and other clinicians involved in the care and management of cancer patients.

Book Standards and Codes of Practice in Medical Radiation Dosimetry

Download or read book Standards and Codes of Practice in Medical Radiation Dosimetry written by International Atomic Energy Agency and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 522 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These proceedings present a refereed selection of papers that were given at a symposium held in Vienna in November 2002. Emphasis was placed on dosimetry for therapeutic applications of radiation in medicine. However, some papers deal with dosimetry in diagnostic radiology and nuclear medicine. Although many dosimetry techniques are discussed, calorimetry is featured in one session exclusively. Many papers deal with dosimetry standards, protocols and comparisons. The need for accurate dosimetry for the treatment of cancer was a common thread throughout the symposium.

Book Radiopharmaceuticals in the Management of Leptomeningeal Metastasis

Download or read book Radiopharmaceuticals in the Management of Leptomeningeal Metastasis written by Franklin C.L. Wong and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-11-12 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book reviews the current clinical practice of leptomeningeal metastasis (LM) diagnosis and treatment, which is predominately by intrathecal chemotherapy and/or in combination with external beam radiotherapy. LM is a refractory lethal complication of many human malignancies when neoplastic cells grow in the meninges. The use of penetrating emissions from radionuclides has the advantages of visualizing cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) flow and ablating meninges at shallow depths and has been used to diagnose CSF flow anomalies and to treat LM. The scientific bases of using radionuclides inside human CSF and ablating LM will be discussed within the text, with results from established and completed clinical trials to explore optimal use of radionuclides to diagnose and treat LM. Many limitations of current practices of treating LM are also discussed, as well as potential avenues of overcoming these limitations. This book is an ideal guide for clinical researchers in the practice of treating leptomeningeal metastasis including radiologists, neurologists, oncologists and radiotherapists as well as their associates.
