Nate Foster’s Broadway dreams are finally coming true in this sequel to Better Nate Than Ever that Publishers Weekly calls a “funny, tender coming-of-age story.” Armed with a one-way ticket to New York City, small-town theater geek Nate is off to start rehearsals for E.T.: The Broadway Musical. It’s everything he ever practiced his autograph for! But as thrilling as Broadway is, rehearsals are nothing like Nate expects: full of intimidating child stars, cut-throat understudies, and a director who can’t even remember Nate’s name. Now, as the countdown to opening night is starting to feel more like a time bomb, Nate is going to need more than his lucky rabbit’s foot if he ever wants to see his name in lights. He may even need a showbiz miracle. The companion novel to Better Nate Than Ever, which The New York Times called “inspired and inspiring,” Five, Six, Seven, Nate! is full of secret admirers, surprise reunions, and twice the drama of middle school...with a lot more glitter.

Download or read book Six Out Seven written by Jess Mowry and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 532 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "On the day Corbitt Wainwright's father is imprisoned for attacking a white man, the thirteen-year-old's adolescence is abruptly cut short. Dreams of success through good grades and hard work are wiped aside as white society shows him, out of both kindness and malice, that poor black kids in Mississippi don't have much of a hand in creating their own destinies. But Corbitt refuses to accept his allotted role, and after a deadly confrontation with his father's accuser, he sets out for California, the land of opportunity and racial equality." "What he finds on arriving in West Oakland is another world altogether, a world populated by gangs and crack dealers, violent cops and street kids, where opportunity seems to run even thinner than it does back home. But when he falls in with some local home boys and helps them overcome one of their many predators, Corbitt discovers the power of his African heritage. He learns, finally, to trust his own strength." "Peopled by a remarkable cast of characters and written with the gut-wrenching immediacy, cutting-edge street slang, and haunting lyricism that have marked Jess Mowry as a bold new voice in fiction, Six Out Seven is a brutally honest novel about what it means to be a black teenager in the United States today. Wryly funny, deeply committed, it is a portrait of America no reader should miss."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. All Rights Reserved

Download or read book Seven Days That Divide the World written by John C. Lennox and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2011-08-23 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What did the writer of Genesis mean by “the first day”? Is it a literal week or a series of time periods? If I believe that the earth is 4.5 billion years old, am I denying the authority of Scripture? In response to the continuing controversy over the interpretation of the creation narrative in Genesis, John Lennox proposes a succinct method of reading and interpreting the first chapters of Genesis without discounting either science or Scripture. With examples from history, a brief but thorough exploration of the major interpretations, and a look into the particular significance of the creation of human beings, Lennox suggests that Christians can heed modern scientific knowledge while staying faithful to the biblical narrative. He moves beyond a simple response to the controversy, insisting that Genesis teaches us far more about the God of Jesus Christ and about God’s intention for creation than it does about the age of the earth. With this book, Lennox offers a careful yet accessible introduction to a scientifically-savvy, theologically-astute, and Scripturally faithful interpretation of Genesis.

Download or read book The Madam at Six Twenty Seven Clay Street written by Mary M. Lucas and published by Acclaim Press. This book was released on 2020-03 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of Bowling Green's most colorful characters, Pauline Tabor was known as the Madam at 627 Clay Street for nearly twenty-five years. A single mother during the Great Depression of the 1930s, Miss Pauline entered the world's oldest profession to support both herself and her two children. However, she quickly learned that it was more profitable to be a madam than "one of the girls", and so began her career as the owner of a brothel. Her early days in the 1930s weren't easy, when the going rate was "three dollars per encounter," but Pauline was smart and eventually opened her famous house on Clay Street in 1944. Through the years, Pauline fought against the US Army, law enforcement and the local courts, always seeming to come out on top. During the war years of the 1940s-50s, her close proximity to Western Kentucky State College (later University), and the US Army bases at Camp Campbell and Fort Knox were certainly good for business, and Pauline knew that running a good establishment would keep the boys coming back again and again. However, over time business began to fade during the sexual revolution of the 1960s, forcing Miss Pauline to close her doors in 1968. The Madam at Six-Twenty-Seven Clay Street tells the true story of Pauline Tabor and many interesting stories of her career in prostitution in the small town of Bowling Green, Kentucky.
