Book Situk River Chinook and Sockeye Salmon Sport Harvest Estimates 2008 2011

Download or read book Situk River Chinook and Sockeye Salmon Sport Harvest Estimates 2008 2011 written by Brian Marston and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the years 2008-2011, sport angling effort, catch, and harvest was estimated on the Situk River using creel sampling interviews. This sampling was targeted at anglers fishing for Chinook salmon Oncorhynchus tshawytscha and sockeye salmon Oncorhynchus nerka on the Situk River from June 9 through July 31 each year. The methodology used in this report, and in past reports, utilized one sampler at a primary angler exit point on a lower portion of the river, and analysis with a mathematical expansion factor to expand that estimation and calculate fishery statistics for the entire drainage. In the last two years of this project period (2010 and 2011) a new method was also used that sampled all the exit points on the river with a second sampler in an attempt to improve precision. Chinook salmon fisheries were curtailed or closed on the Situk River by management actions all years of this report due to low abundance; during the same time, sockeye salmon abundance was high, and regulations were liberalized all years, except in 2008. Angler effort, measured in the number of hours fished, ranged from 8,782 to 10,701 hours per year. Foot traffic was the most common technique used by anglers, and jet boat travel was the least. Non-resident angler hours outnumbered resident angler hours. Non-guided angling effort was far more common than guided angling. The total number of Chinook salmon of all sizes caught ranged from 10 to 149, and the number harvested from zero to 64. Sockeye salmon catch ranged from 5,348 to 6,964 fish, and sockeye harvest ranged from 3,376 to 4,411 fish. In 2010 and 2011 the new sampling methodology estimated fishery performances with similar trends, but with lower estimates than the method used previously.

Book Operational Plan Situk River Chinook Salmon Creel Survey 2023 2024

Download or read book Operational Plan Situk River Chinook Salmon Creel Survey 2023 2024 written by Jason A. Pawluk and published by . This book was released on 2023 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this project is to determine Chinook salmon Oncorhynchus tshawytscha harvest by sport anglers on the Situk River and the age components of that harvest. Additionally, sockeye salmon Oncorhynchus nerka harvest will be determined and various methods of angler use patterns for both species will be recorded. Creel sampling techniques will be used to collect catch, harvest, effort and biological information from the Situk River for this purpose. This information is used to manage for the Chinook salmon biological escapement goal for the Situk River as per the Situk-Ahrnklin and Lost River Chinook salmon Management Plan, along with achieving the Situk River sockeye salmon biological escapement goal. Inriver abundance for both Situk River Chinook and sockeye is obtained from another project with a fish weir, and escapement is calculated by subtracting the above-weir sport harvest estimate of this project from that weir count. Additionally, the Chinook salmon age component information of the harvest gathered here is required for yearly stock assessment models to predict the following years run and set preseason management regulations.

Book Estimates of the Historic Run and Escapement for the Chinook Salmon Stock Returning to the Kuskokwim River 1976 2011

Download or read book Estimates of the Historic Run and Escapement for the Chinook Salmon Stock Returning to the Kuskokwim River 1976 2011 written by Brian Bue and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 47 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Total run of Chinook salmon (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha) to the Kuskokwim River from 1976 through 2011 was estimated using a model developed for data-limited situations. The model simultaneously combined information on subsistence harvest, commercial harvest and effort, sport harvest, test fish harvest and catch per unit of effort at Bethel, mark-recapture estimates of inriver abundance, and counts of salmon at 6 weirs and peak aerial counts from 14 drainages all spread throughout the Kuskokwim River drainage. The estimates of historic run size were then combined with available information on the age structure of the stock to reconstruct the total return by age and ultimately estimate a brood table.

Book Origins of Chinook Salmon in the Yukon River Fisheries 2008

Download or read book Origins of Chinook Salmon in the Yukon River Fisheries 2008 written by Heather Leba and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reports on estimations of the stock composition of all harvests and test fishery catches of Chinook salmon, Oncorhynchus tshawytscha, within the Yukon River drainage in 2008. Stock composition was estimated for 3 geographically-based stock groups termed Lower, Middle, and Upper, and commercial and subsistence harvest age compositions were estimated from aged scales collected. Age compositions from sampled fish, in combination with genetic stock estimates, were used to estimate the stock composition for each age class. Also includes historical data from 1981-2008.
