Book Handbook of Geotechnical Investigation and Design Tables

Download or read book Handbook of Geotechnical Investigation and Design Tables written by Burt G. Look and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2007-04-26 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This practical handbook of properties for soils and rock contains, in a concise tabular format, the key issues relevant to geotechnical investigations, assessments and designs in common practice. In addition, there are brief notes on the application of the tables. These data tables are compiled for experienced geotechnical professionals who require a reference document to access key information. There is an extensive database of correlations for different applications. The book should provide a useful bridge between soil and rock mechanics theory and its application to practical engineering solutions. The initial chapters deal with the planning of the geotechnical investigation, the classification of the soil and rock properties and some of the more used testing is then covered. Later chapters show the reliability and correlations that are used to convert that data in the interpretative and assessment phase of the project. The final chapters apply some of these concepts to geotechnical design. This book is intended primarily for practicing geotechnical engineers working in investigation, assessment and design, but should provide a useful supplement for postgraduate courses.

Book Site Investigation using Resistivity Imaging

Download or read book Site Investigation using Resistivity Imaging written by Sahadat Hossain and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-08-06 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Subsurface investigation is the most important phase of any civil engineering construction or development activities. The geologic conditions can be extremely complex, variable, and subject to change with time; soil test borings and in-situ tests are employed to obtain subsoil information. Resistivity Imaging (RI) is a non-destructive, fast and cost-effective method of site investigation and soil characterization. Site Investigation using Resistivity Imaging aims to summarize pertinent details of RI in site investigation for geotechnical and geo-environmental applications. It aims to bridge the gap that currently exists between the geotechnical/geo-environmental and geophysical engineering community. The geotechnical and geo-environmental engineers will be able to use annd understand geophysical data and utilize the information for their design. Features: First comprehensive handbook aimed at engineers that summarises pertinent details of Resitivity Imaging (RI) in site investigation for geotechnical and geo-environmental applications. for geotechnical and geoenvironmental engineers, making it possible to interpret geophysical data and utilize the information for their design. explanining the advantages of RI over conventional site investigations: continuous image, large coverage, low cost, quick and easy data processing. It will be a comprehensive handbook for the application of RI in geotechnical and geo-environmental site investigations.

Book Phase 2 Site Investigations Report Volume 2 of 3 Site Specific Investigations

Download or read book Phase 2 Site Investigations Report Volume 2 of 3 Site Specific Investigations written by and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 671 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Proposed investigative activities for the sites identified at the Sudbury Annex (the Annex) were determined through a review of previous activities and findings, and are governed by the established Scope of Work (SOW). The objectives of the activities were to determine whether any contamination exists in groundwater, surface water, sediment, or surface/subsurface soils at the assigned Phase II sites, and, in the cases where contamination is thought or known to exist, to confirm and better characterize its nature and extent. To evaluate each site, and to develop a better understanding of the site's impact on the Annex environment, the Annex has been divided into seven distinct watersheds. In this report, general findings of the field effort are first summarized for each watershed as a whole. Detailed information about activities undertaken and sampling results is then provided for each site. Conclusions and recommendations are reviewed and discussed in conjunction with the findings of the Phase I investigation conducted by OHM Remediation Services Corporation (OHM). Data results are presented with each site investigation (SI) section. The methodology used in the screening of analytical results generated through this Phase II SI, and the screening values used to identify areas of possible concern, are fully explained in Section 7, Volume 1 of this report. The appendices provide field reports, special studies and quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) results used throughout this report to support the information presented in the text.
