Book Light of the Darkness

Download or read book Light of the Darkness written by Jasmine Bea and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2018-02-21 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Light of the Darkness is the remarkable, adventure-packed story of a woman on a journey dimmed by shadows at every step. Already a survivor of a great deal when we meet her at the novel’s launch, Lux is a Lorean of mixed origins who is also a successful entrepreneur (with her sister, Noire). She is, too, a unique beauty who distinguishes herself from her remarkable peers through the legacy of unimaginable torture she’s endured at the hands of many, including the two men closest to her. A fierce combatant, Lux joins up with family and friends in pursuit of personal enlightenment, and comes to understand some painful truths about her past along the way. One of them is that strength comes in many forms. Sometimes, the waves of darkness that so regularly threaten to engulf Lux require unimaginable draws on courage; other times, it’s only a matter of her lobbing a show of her characteristic sass in their direction.

Book First Lessons

Download or read book First Lessons written by Christine Richardson-Hay and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2006 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a detailed commentary on Book 1 (epistulae 1-12) of Seneca's Ad Lucilium Epistulae Morales, written in the last years (62-65 AD) of the philosopher's life. The importance of the Epistulae Morales as an example, possibly the consummation, of Seneca's writings and a discussion of Roman (Stoic) moral philosophy, is universally acknowledged. The purpose in focusing upon these first twelve epistles, which establish the principle and intention of this large collection of twenty extant Books, is to interpret and annotate the letters and add insight to the understanding of the Epistulae Morales overall. Every letter in Book 1 is discussed in the form of a commentary. Areas of comment include vocabulary and style, personal allusions to Seneca, relevant issues of history and social environment and, inevitably, the moral and philosophical concepts which form the substance of Seneca's argument throughout the Epistulae Morales. Two further issues, the Structure and Style of Book 1, are discussed in separate chapters.

Book Lifebuoy Men Lux Women

Download or read book Lifebuoy Men Lux Women written by Timothy Burke and published by Duke University Press. This book was released on 1996 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How do people come to need products they never even knew they wanted? How, for example, did indigenous Zimbabweans of the 1940s begin to believe that they required Lifebuoy soap? Offering a glimpse into the intimate workings of modern colonialism and global capitalism, Timothy Burke takes up these questions in Lifebuoy Men, Lux Women, a study of post-World War II commodity culture in Zimbabwe. With particular attention to cosmetic products and the contrast between colonial and pre-colonial ideas of cleanliness, Burke examines the role played by commodity culture, changing patterns of consumption, and the spread of advertising in the making of modern Zimbabwe. His work combines history, anthropology, and political economy to show how the development of commodification in the region relates to the social history of hygiene. Within this framework, and drawing on a wide variety of historical sources, Burke explores dense interactions between commodity culture and embodied aspects of race, gender, sexuality, domesticity, health, and aesthetics in a colonial society. Rather than viewing the production of needs simply as an imposition from above, Lifebuoy Men, Lux Women shows what heterogeneous and complex processes, involving the aims and histories of both colonizers and colonized, produced these changes in Zimbabwean society. Integrating political economy, cultural studies, and a wide range of the social sciences, Lifebuoy Men, Lux Women will find readers among scholars of colonialism, African history, and ethnography as well those for whom the problem of commodification is a significant theoretical issue.

Book Forma Lux Heaven s Harbinger

Download or read book Forma Lux Heaven s Harbinger written by Joseph J. Morse and published by Covenant Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2024-05-14 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Though I am not much studied on the views of Angelology, nor do I have figurines or birdbaths of angels or send out daily memes of them. Forma Lux is a fictional angel set in the format of scripture as I understand it. The Bible speaks about some who have entertained angels unaware, and how do we know we have not been visited? They have appeared to declare God's warnings or foretell what is coming. Forma Lux (form of light) is a harbinger sent from the kingdom of heaven who gives anticipatory sight of what is to come and is a nonmortal servant of God. She is the "hark," the "fear not" messenger to people in individual settings throughout this book. She is a bit snide in a humorous way but can give a piercing dialogue to people who need to hear it. The reader may find the dialogue, the characters, and the unique situations written with passion in a different style or interesting way. The book has three different stories. First story ("Forma Lux and Old Soldiers Fade Away") is about an elderly gentleman unaware that he is at the last days of his life. He fought in WWII and was facing his grief of killing men so long ago and has bitterness against God. He is visited by Forma Lux, and I won't tell you what happens next. The second story ("Forma Lux and the Space Cloud") is the beginning before Forma is assigned to earth by God. She is in a solitude place where her duties are to catch souls that had problems, even after their death, accepting their salvation after their conversion. She dialogues with Ephriam Jones, who fought in the English Marston Moor Civil War in the 1600s. You might enjoy his out-of-body flight, leaving his soul and meeting up with Form Lux and the dialogue the two have. The third story ("Forma Lux: Heaven's Harbinger"), Forma Lux is assigned to Plymouth (Plimoth), Massachusetts, to the pilgrim plantation. They find her living in the woods in a mysterious house by herself, and they call her to task. Of course, there is a witch trial but most of the characters are historically believable at the time. Some of the happenings, or at least the accusation of the happenings, are said in court documents of my own family during that time--that dang floating hammer in the chimney, invisible roof stumpers... Wait for the end. It is a good one.
