The breath of fresh air named Laurel was going to meet me. God she was hot, with her shoulder-length dark hair and large brown eyes. Gorgeous and smart, she didn't seem to realize how special she was. I had to laugh. I wasn't going to sit with her, but the growing problem in my pants forced my presumptive action. Thankfully, it worked out. The moment I first saw Laurel, I was interested. Trying to be inconspicuous, I'd watched her at first in the mirror behind the counter while she watched me. Fantastic, I'd thought, I have to meet this delectable tidbit. When the line had moved forward and she fell out of view, I chanced the occasional surreptitious glance. The few times we'd locked eyes, my stomach lurched, but I resisted looking away. The shy thing she was, she immediately averted her gaze and blushed. And now, I'm on my way to meet her at the museum. What a stroke of luck. My first choice would have been to take her home, undress her and make love to her. You don't screw a woman like that; you make slow, passionate, meaningful love to her. In time, Julian. In time. She wasn't the kind of woman that would just jump in bed. There was something pure and innocent about her. With a woman like that you take your time and woo. That kind of woman deserves a lifetime commitment. Whoa, Buddy. You're getting way ahead of yourself.I clicked the lock on my Porsche Cayenne SUV and hopped in. After taking 101 to 110, I jumped off at Exposition Blvd. I pulled into my designated space in the rear of the building and rushed into the huge edifice. By the time I reached the lobby I was out of breath and...she wasn't there. Could this be a brush off? I glanced around. She was nowhere visible. I rushed to the gift shop. No Laurel. I headed for the information booth, but after I arrived, I didn't know what to ask the attendant. While I was thinking of what to ask her, a fingertip pressed me between my shoulder blades. I swung around and there was a vision of splendor-Laurel smiled at me with her beatific countenance.I'm sure I shocked her and the attendant, but I was so happy to see her, I took her in my arms and kissed her. She didn't respond, but neither did she push me away.Realizing what I'd done-how forward I'd been-I jerked away. "I ah...excuse...I umm, don't know. Please forgive me...I was so...worried when I-"Laurel began to laugh-a pretty, infectious laugh. I shrugged my shoulders and sighed. "Wow. You give a whole new meaning to the term personal tour. Do all the recipients of individual tours of the museum get such a warm greeting?" I must have blushed, because a flush of heat shot though me, as did she when I responded, "Only a beautiful angel such as you, sent to bedazzle me. But time's a wastin'. Where would you like to start?"In her first personal gesture, she snuck her arm inside the crook of mine and said, "I can't make up my mind. You pick."

But is their overpowering love and attraction enough to allow this unlikely couple to overcome the obvious societal obstacles plus the differences between their own core beliefs to make a life together?________________________________________________________________________ As soon as I walked in the door, Seth looked up from the TV. “Hi sweetheart, where are the kids?”“At your mother's. They're spending the night. Meet me in the bedroom. I have a surprise for you.” “Bedroom, surprise?” He rose as the corners of his mouth curled up. “Those two words used in the same sentence sound very promising.” “Don't get too excited.” I smiled back and took the big guy's large hand in mine. “You might be able to only look for now and not touch.” As we entered the bedroom I explained, “Laurel and I spent the day at a spa and guess what?”“I'm sure I don't know, but from the way you're acting I'd guess you got that Brazilian wax treatment you've been threatening to get for months.” Was I disappointed? Of course, but I was also pleased. I stood in front of him and pinched his nose as he lifted my skirt and started to drag my panties down. “You're just too smart for your own good, doctor. Maybe that's why I love you.” “And you are too sexy for your own good and that is why I love you. Mmmm. Look at this? It's all red.” He touched me. “It's warm too. Let me lick it better.” “Seth, the sex crazed doctor.” “Only with you baby and the doctor prescribes copious amounts of cooling saliva upon the injured area.” He stuck out his long tongue, wiggling it, slowly heading in the direction of my suddenly sodden pu**y. I reciprocated by edging in toward him. “You are evil.” “I know and you love it.” My cell phone rang. “Let it ring.” I wanted too. I wanted that tongue bad. “I can't. It could be your mother—the kids.” He groaned as I kicked the panties around my ankles off and pulled down my skirt. I reached in my purse, which I'd set on the nightstand and grasped the ringing phone and quickly flipped open the cover. “Hello.” “Hi Baby. It's Dad. I didn't disturb anything, did I?” Only a little blissful oral sex. “Of course not! Nice of you to call.” “I've been meaning to ring you, but this isn't a social call.” “Oh?” “No. Laurel just visited me. She's very conflicted about this young man.” I shooed Seth over. He flashed a disgusted look, but moved and I sat on the bed. “I know. I met him. I like him. I think he'll be good for her.” “That's what she said. That you seem to be pushing him on her.” “Daddy, I don't have to push very hard. I know they've only known each other a short time but she is enthralled by him. And frankly, he seems every bit as beguiled by her.” “I know. They even slept together.” “She told you that?” “You know Laurel. She's an open book. After I figured it out she admitted it. That bothers me some, but not as much as the fact she can't remember.” “Why Daddy?” “Something bad must have happened for her subconscious to expunge the memory.” “Daddy. I think we better talk. I'll be there at eleven tomorrow. And don't make lemonade.” “I thought you like my lemonade.” “I do but for this discussion, coffee is in order. Oh. One more thing Daddy.” “What Sweetheart?” “Julian reminds me of you.”

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a study of God as a concept, not from the perspective of any religious tradition, but rather as belief in an all-powerful, all-knowing and loving supernatural entity as has prevailed through the ages. The book reviews arguments throughout history for and against the idea of such a God. One unique perspective is to ask what can be modeled about God in denotative language of rationality (much as modeling in science, medicine and economics) in contrast to connotative language (e.g., myth, metaphor, art and music). Since the early Greeks there have been skeptics concerning God, with progressively more questioning since the Enlightenment. Today’s “new atheists” are seen as being even more assertive, and as having little respect for religious and philosophical traditions and the natural longing for some kind of supreme being. However, as demographic trends continue to diminish the influence of the church, there is opportunity for atheism to gain respect by respecting the beliefs of others. The book ends with some considerations of what it means to respect others’ beliefs and cultural traditions without abandoning a sincere disbelief in a supernatural being.

After a wondrous time on the town and an unforgettable night in a Manhattan hotel room, the couple awakes to a mind-numbing realization. The flummoxed pair are outraged, angry, and totally baffled. In the heat of the confusion, Brad remembers he must be at work within the hour to receive his big promotion--and he needs Ginger to make it happen. And that's just the beginning... EXCERPT I felt a slight brush of my hair, accompanied by the pleasant a floral fragrance of a woman's perfume. I turned my head to follow the retreating sound of a woman's high heels and was rewarded with a visual treat. Long blonde hair and a classic coke-bottle shape rode upon perfectly formed legs. It was as if Barbie doll had come to life. When she turned and ducked into the ladies room, I elbowed Lew. "Did you see that?" He raised his eyebrows and nodded slow and precise. "The blonde?" I nodded. "Yeah! Nice!" "Did you see her face?" "Ah-huh. She's gorgeous. I watched when she and her equally hot friend came in. They must be models or something." "Where? Where's her friend?" I surveyed the lounge. "She's sitting at the bar. Tall, with auburn hair, wearing a short teal shift, and legs up to her waist." I looked over and sighed. "She is stunning. Can you imagine what it must be like to look like that? To be that desired. If I was a woman and looked like that, I'm afraid I would be a real slut." Lew laughed. "From what I can tell, you're a slut now." I laughed. "I'd like to be a slut, but I don't have the sex appeal. Men are so restricted, suits or sports coats and ties, while women like these, exude their sexuality through their clothing, hair and makeup, manicures, pedicures. It's not fair." "Sounds like you'd like to be a woman." "No, I'm happy as a man. I just think it might be a blast to be a sexy, trendy woman—to dress to your personality—to have guys come to you instead of having to go to women." Lew started to answer me, but I put a hand across his to shush him as the blonde came out of the ladies room and strolled toward us. Lew was right, she was gorgeous. I stared straight at her and she smiled. She passed and my head turned to follow her gait as she wove her way back to the bar and her friend. "Well, what do you think?" Jimbo asked, obviously privy to our conversation. "Extraordinary." "I know. If I wasn't married… But I am so… What about you Brad? You're not married, and as far as I know you're not involved." Lew chirped in. "No, Brad's not involved. He's a player, aren't you?" Don't I wish? "I play around occasionally, but lately I've been in a drought." Lew frowned. "A man of the town has to make their own breaks. You're getting a big promotion tomorrow and have every reason to celebrate." He hitched his head toward the lovely ladies, "And I'd start right over there. Give it a try." ~ * * ~ I smiled at Amber and took my seat. "So, when is your Thursday date…what's his name again?" "Fritz." "That's right. Reminds me of a potato chip or a drink." I snickered. "I'll have a wine fritzer. When's he supposed to be here?" Amber shook her head. "Only you. Fritz will be here any minute. So how'd your trip to the restroom go? Did you stir up any interest?" "I don't know. Mostly, I got the usual inane pickup lines. But I have a good feeling about one guy. His eyes undressed me as I walked by." "I know. Doesn't it feel great when they do that? Which one?" "The brown haired guy, partially blocking the aisle with his chair over by the ladies room." "Oh, yeah. He scoped me out, too, while you were in the rest room. From what I could tell, he wasn't bad to look at." Amber's brow rose and she stuck her hand over mine. "Don't look now, dear, but he's on his way over here."

Book Sister Aimee

Download or read book Sister Aimee written by Daniel Mark Epstein and published by HMH. This book was released on 2014-02-11 with total page 501 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The true story of America’s first superstar evangelist that “fills a significant gap in the history of revivalism” (The New York Times Book Review). Once she answered the divine calling, Aimee Semple McPherson rose fast from unfulfilled housewife in Rhode Island to “miracle woman”—the most enigmatic, pioneering, media-savvy Christian evangelist in the country. She preached up and down the United States, traveling in a 1912 Packard with her mother and her children—and without a man to fix flat tires. Her ministry was rolled out in tents, concert halls, boxing rings, and speakeasies. She prayed for the healing of hundreds of thousands of people, founded the Foursquare Church, and built a Pentecostal temple in Los Angeles of Hollywood-epic dimensions (Charlie Chaplin advised her on sets). But this is not just a story of McPherson’s cult of fame. It’s also the story about its price: exhaustion, insomnia, nervous breakdowns, sexual scandals, loneliness, and the notorious public disgrace that nearly destroyed her. A “powerhouse biography of perhaps the most charismatic and controversial woman in modern religious history,” Sister Aimee is, above all, the life story of a unique woman, of the power of passion that rejects compromise, and a faith that would not be shaken (Kirkus Reviews). “[Told] with insight, empathy and lyrical power . . . Daniel Mark Epstein sees the facts, and feels the mystery, and he has written a remarkable book.” —Los Angeles Times
