This book was released on 2019-12-02 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Keller-Segel model for chemotaxis is a prototype of nonlocal systems describing concentration phenomena in physics and biology. While the two-dimensional theory is by now quite complete, the questions of global-in-time solvability and blowup characterization are largely open in higher dimensions. In this book, global-in-time solutions are constructed under (nearly) optimal assumptions on initial data and rigorous blowup criteria are derived.

This book was released on 2020-11-23 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book will benefit a reader with a background in physical sciences and applied mathematics interested in the mathematical models of genetic evolution. In the first chapter, we analyze several thought experiments based on a basic model of stochastic evolution of a single genomic site in the presence of the factors of random mutation, directional natural selection, and random genetic drift. In the second chapter, we present a more advanced theory for a large number of linked loci. In the third chapter, we include the effect of genetic recombination into account and find out the advantage of sexual reproduction for adaptation. These models are useful for the evolution of a broad range of asexual and sexual populations, including virus evolution in a host and a host population.

Download or read book Mean Field Theories and Dual Variation Mathematical Structures of the Mesoscopic Model written by Takashi Suzuki and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-11-19 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mean field approximation has been adopted to describe macroscopic phenomena from microscopic overviews. It is still in progress; fluid mechanics, gauge theory, plasma physics, quantum chemistry, mathematical oncology, non-equilibirum thermodynamics. spite of such a wide range of scientific areas that are concerned with the mean field theory, a unified study of its mathematical structure has not been discussed explicitly in the open literature. The benefit of this point of view on nonlinear problems should have significant impact on future research, as will be seen from the underlying features of self-assembly or bottom-up self-organization which is to be illustrated in a unified way. The aim of this book is to formulate the variational and hierarchical aspects of the equations that arise in the mean field theory from macroscopic profiles to microscopic principles, from dynamics to equilibrium, and from biological models to models that arise from chemistry and physics.

Download or read book Singularities in PDE and the Calculus of Variations written by Stanley Alama and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains papers presented at the "Workshop on Singularities in PDE and the Calculus of Variations" at the CRM in July 2006. The main theme of the meeting was the formation of geometrical singularities in PDE problems with a variational formulation. These equations typically arise in some applications (to physics, engineering, or biology, for example) and their resolution often requires a combination of methods coming from areas such as functional and harmonic analysis, differential geometry and geometric measure theory. Among the PDE problems discussed were: the Cahn-Hilliard model of phase transitions and domain walls; vortices in Ginzburg-Landau type models for superconductivity and superfluidity; the Ohna-Kawasaki model for di-block copolymers; models of image enhancement; and Monge-Ampere functions. The articles give a sampling of problems and methods in this diverse area of mathematics, which touches a large part of modern mathematics and its applications.

Download or read book MEAN FIELD THEORIES AND DUAL VARIATION written by Takashi Suzuki and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-01-01 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A mathematical theory is introduced in this book to unify a large class of nonlinear partial differential equation (PDE) models for better understanding and analysis of the physical and biological phenomena they represent. The so-called mean field approximation approach is adopted to describe the macroscopic phenomena from certain microscopic principles for this unified mathematical formulation. Two key ingredients for this approach are the notions of “duality” according to the PDE weak solutions and “hierarchy” for revealing the details of the otherwise hidden secrets, such as physical mystery hidden between particle density and field concentration, quantized blow up biological mechanism sealed in chemotaxis systems, as well as multi-scale mathematical explanations of the Smoluchowski–Poisson model in non-equilibrium thermodynamics, two-dimensional turbulence theory, self-dual gauge theory, and so forth. This book shows how and why many different nonlinear problems are inter-connected in terms of the properties of duality and scaling, and the way to analyze them mathematically.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Addressing students and researchers as well as Computational Fluid Dynamics practitioners, this book is the most comprehensive review of high-resolution schemes based on the principle of Flux-Corrected Transport (FCT). The foreword by J.P. Boris and historical note by D.L. Book describe the development of the classical FCT methodology for convection-dominated transport problems, while the design philosophy behind modern FCT schemes is explained by S.T. Zalesak. The subsequent chapters present various improvements and generalizations proposed over the past three decades. In this new edition, recent results are integrated into existing chapters in order to describe significant advances since the publication of the first edition. Also, 3 new chapters were added in order to cover the following topics: algebraic flux correction for finite elements, iterative and linearized FCT schemes, TVD-like flux limiters, acceleration of explicit and implicit solvers, mesh adaptation, failsafe limiting for systems of conservation laws, flux-corrected interpolation (remapping), positivity preservation in RANS turbulence models, and the use of FCT as an implicit subgrid scale model for large eddy simulations.

This book was released on 2024-01-22 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mathematical models are used to describe the essence of the real world, and their analysis induces new predictions filled with unexpected phenomena. In spite of a huge number of insights derived from a variety of scientific fields in these five hundred years of the theory of differential equations, and its extensive developments in these one hundred years, several principles that ensure these successes are discovered very recently. This monograph focuses on one of them: cancellation of singularities derived from interactions of multiple species, which is described by the language of geometry, in particular, that of global analysis.Five objects of inquiry, scattered across different disciplines, are selected in this monograph: evolution of geometric quantities, models of multi-species in biology, interface vanishing of d - δ systems, the fundamental equation of electro-magnetic theory, and free boundaries arising in engineering. The relaxation of internal tensions in these systems, however, is described commonly by differential forms, and the reader will be convinced of further applications of this principle to other areas.
Download or read book Nonlinear Systems Of Partial Differential Equations Applications To Life And Physical Sciences written by Anthony W Leung and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2009-08-28 with total page 545 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book presents the theory of diffusion-reaction equations starting from the Volterra-Lotka systems developed in the eighties for Dirichlet boundary conditions. It uses the analysis of applicable systems of partial differential equations as a starting point for studying upper-lower solutions, bifurcation, degree theory and other nonlinear methods. It also illustrates the use of semigroup, stability theorems and W2ptheory. Introductory explanations are included in the appendices for non-expert readers. The first chapter covers a wide range of steady-state and stability results involving prey-predator, competing and cooperating species under strong or weak interactions. Many diagrams are included to easily understand the description of the range of parameters for coexistence. The book provides a comprehensive presentation of topics developed by numerous researchers. Large complex systems are introduced for modern research in ecology, medicine and engineering.Chapter 3 combines the theories of earlier chapters with the optimal control of systems involving resource management and fission reactors. This is the first book to present such topics at research level. Chapter 4 considers persistence, cross-diffusion, and boundary induced blow-up, etc. The book also covers traveling or systems of waves, coupled Navier-Stokes and Maxwell systems, and fluid equations of plasma display. These should be of interest to life and physical scientists.

Download or read book Noncommutativity and Singularities written by Jean-Pierre Bourguignon and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The two symposia, the Hayashibara Forum and the MSJ/IHÉS joint workshop, were held at the Institute des Hautes Études Scientifiques (IHÉS) in November, 2006. The Hayashibara Forum focused on singularity theory, which has been one of the research areas that has over the years been well represented at IHÉS. The MSJ/IHÉS Joint Workshop, focused on the broad area of noncommutativity, with an emphasis on noncommutative geometry as one of the fundamental themes of 21st century mathematics. This volume contains papers presented at the symposia in the form of invited lectures and contributing talks by young researchers. We believe that the scope of this volume well reflects a new development for singularity theory, and a new direction in mathematics through noncommutativity. This volume are aimed to inspire not only the specialists in these fields but also a wider audience of mathematicians.Published by Mathematical Society of Japan and distributed by World Scientific Publishing Co. for all markets except North America
