Book Approximation by Multivariate Singular Integrals

Download or read book Approximation by Multivariate Singular Integrals written by George A. Anastassiou and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-07-25 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Approximation by Multivariate Singular Integrals is the first monograph to illustrate the approximation of multivariate singular integrals to the identity-unit operator. The basic approximation properties of the general multivariate singular integral operators is presented quantitatively, particularly special cases such as the multivariate Picard, Gauss-Weierstrass, Poisson-Cauchy and trigonometric singular integral operators are examined thoroughly. This book studies the rate of convergence of these operators to the unit operator as well as the related simultaneous approximation. The last chapter, which includes many examples, presents a related Korovkin type approximation theorem for functions of two variables. Relevant background information and motivation is included in this exposition, and as a result this book can be used as supplementary text for several advanced courses. The results presented apply to many areas of pure and applied mathematics, such a mathematical analysis, probability, statistics and partial differential equations. This book is appropriate for researchers and selected seminars at the graduate level.

Book Complexity and Information

Download or read book Complexity and Information written by J. F. Traub and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1998-12-10 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The twin themes of computational complexity and information pervade this 1998 book. It starts with an introduction to the computational complexity of continuous mathematical models, that is, information-based complexity. This is then used to illustrate a variety of topics, including breaking the curse of dimensionality, complexity of path integration, solvability of ill-posed problems, the value of information in computation, assigning values to mathematical hypotheses, and new, improved methods for mathematical finance. The style is informal, and the goals are exposition, insight and motivation. A comprehensive bibliography is provided, to which readers are referred for precise statements of results and their proofs. As the first introductory book on the subject it will be invaluable as a guide to the area for the many students and researchers whose disciplines, ranging from physics to finance, are influenced by the computational complexity of continuous problems.

Book Average Case Analysis of Numerical Problems

Download or read book Average Case Analysis of Numerical Problems written by Klaus Ritter and published by Springer. This book was released on 2007-05-06 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The average-case analysis of numerical problems is the counterpart of the more traditional worst-case approach. The analysis of average error and cost leads to new insight on numerical problems as well as to new algorithms. The book provides a survey of results that were mainly obtained during the last 10 years and also contains new results. The problems under consideration include approximation/optimal recovery and numerical integration of univariate and multivariate functions as well as zero-finding and global optimization. Background material, e.g. on reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces and random fields, is provided.

Book Sequences Discrepancies and Applications

Download or read book Sequences Discrepancies and Applications written by Michael Drmota and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-11-14 with total page 517 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main purpose of this book is to give an overview of the developments during the last 20 years in the theory of uniformly distributed sequences. The authors focus on various aspects such as special sequences, metric theory, geometric concepts of discrepancy, irregularities of distribution, continuous uniform distribution and uniform distribution in discrete spaces. Specific applications are presented in detail: numerical integration, spherical designs, random number generation and mathematical finance. Furthermore over 1000 references are collected and discussed. While written in the style of a research monograph, the book is readable with basic knowledge in analysis, number theory and measure theory.

Book A General Theory of Optimal Algorithms

Download or read book A General Theory of Optimal Algorithms written by Joseph Frederick Traub and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this monograph is to create a general framework for the study of optimal algorithms for problems that are solved approximately. For generality the setting is abstract, but we present many applications to practical problems and provide examples to illustrate concepts and major theorems. The work presented here is motivated by research in many fields. Influential have been questions, concepts, and results from complexity theory, algorithmic analysis, applied mathematics and numerical analysis, the mathematical theory of approximation (particularly the work on n-widths in the sense of Gelfand and Kolmogorov), applied approximation theory (particularly the theory of splines), as well as earlier work on optimal algorithms. But many of the questions we ask (see Overview) are new. We present a different view of algorithms and complexity and must request the reader's

  • Pages : 764 pages

Download or read book Real Analysis written by J. Yeh and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2006 with total page 764 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a unified treatise of the theory of measure and integration. In the setting of a general measure space, every concept is defined precisely and every theorem is presented with a clear and complete proof with all the relevant details. Counter-examples are provided to show that certain conditions in the hypothesis of a theorem cannot be simply dropped. The dependence of a theorem on earlier theorems is explicitly indicated in the proof, not only to facilitate reading but also to delineate the structure of the theory. The precision and clarity of presentation make the book an ideal textbook for a graduate course in real analysis while the wealth of topics treated also make the book a valuable reference work for mathematicians.
