Book Theme Variation

Download or read book Theme Variation written by Nadine Sanders and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 125 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Building on the earlier title, Weaving that Sings: Variations of the Theo Moorman Technique, Theme & Variation More Weaving that Sings, illustrates and teaches the Theo Moorman technique of weaving. A variation of plain weave, this technique uses different weight warp threads and inlay yarns (or other materials) to achieve pictorial designs without the time-consuming labor of tapestry weaving. Theme & Variation More Weaving that Sings has new color photography, design and weaving exercises, materials, and applications for double-warp overlay and multi-inlay. It is accompanied by a multi-media CD-ROM which has printable drafts and exercises, video clips of technique, and audio clips of woven harmonies performed by Straw Into Gold; these expand upon the written concepts and woven work in the book. The CD-ROM runs on both.

Book Weaving Prayer Into the Tapestry of Life

Download or read book Weaving Prayer Into the Tapestry of Life written by Martha Graybeal Rowlett and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2013-06 with total page 151 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most books are like visitors. They come and go. This book can be a long-term companion and assistant as you weave prayer into the tapestry of your life. Weaving Prayer Into the Tapestry of Life pictures each of us as a weaver at a loom, creating in every moment our life's tapestry. The transformative thread of prayer is always available to be woven into our life's design. In this weaving, we experience in wonder the creative presence of God. The chapters of this book gives an overview of Christian understanding and practice of prayer. The author combines Scripture, voices and sources from the tradition of the church, poetry, stories, and accounts of personal experience to explore ten of the most familiar ways Christians pray. These are: centering, praise, confession, meditative reading of Scripture, petition, intercession, dedication, silence, and benediction. Nine sets of Prayer Prompts, one with each chapter, invite you to move from thinking to doing. They provide a framework for personal devotion that includes all of the dimensions of Christian prayer discussed in the chapters. Resources from Scripture, prayers of the church, and contemporary materials offer structure and stimulus for expressing the prayers of your heart. These Prayer Prompts are adaptable for repeated use. Members of a prayer group or spiritual growth group may enjoy sharing experiences with this book. "Martha Rowlett deeply understands Christian thinking, Christian living, Christian prayer, and, dare I say it, God. She shares her wisdom with utmost simplicity. Those who use her book will find themselves becoming better Christians." -John Cobb, professor emeritus, Claremont School of Theology

Book Female Characters in Fragmentary Greek Tragedy

Download or read book Female Characters in Fragmentary Greek Tragedy written by P. J. Finglass and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2020-07-02 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How were women represented in Greek tragedy? This question lies at the heart of much modern scholarship on ancient drama, yet it has typically been approached using evidence drawn only from the thirty-two tragedies that survive complete - neglecting tragic fragments, especially those recently discovered and often very substantial fragmentary papyri from plays that had been thought lost. Drawing on the latest research on both gender in tragedy and on tragic fragments, the essays in this volume examine this question from a fresh perspective, shedding light on important mythological characters such as Pasiphae, Hypsipyle, and Europa, on themes such as violence, sisterhood, vengeance, and sex, and on the methodology of a discipline which needs to take fragmentary evidence to heart in order to gain a fuller understanding of ancient tragedy. All Greek is translated to ensure wide accessibility.

Book Under the Shadow of Nationalism

Download or read book Under the Shadow of Nationalism written by Mariko Asano Tamanoi and published by University of Hawaii Press. This book was released on 1998-03-01 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The contribution of rural women to the creation and expansion of the Japanese nation-state is undeniable. As early as the nineteenth century, the women of central Japan's Nagano prefecture in particular provided abundant and cheap labor for a number of industries, most notably the silk spinning industry. Rural women from Nagano could also be found working, from a very young age, as nursemaids, domestic servants, and farm laborers. In whatever capacity they worked, these women became the objects of scrutiny and reform in a variety of nationalist discourses--not only because of the importance of their labor to the nation, but also because of their gender and domicile (the countryside was the centerpiece of state ideology and practice before and during the war, during the Occupation, and beyond). Under the Shadow of Nationalism explores the interconnectedness of nationalism and gender in the context of modern Japan. It combines the author's long-term field research with a painstaking examination of the documents behind these discourses produced at various levels of society, from the national (government records, social reformers' reports, ethnographic data) to the local (teachers' manuals, labor activists' accounts, village newspapers). It provides a wide-ranging yet in-depth look at a key group of Japanese women as national subjects through the critical chapters of Japanese modernity and postmodernity.
