Book Can We Sing It Again

Download or read book Can We Sing It Again written by Kathy Costanzo and published by Austin Macauley Publishers. This book was released on 2024-05-24 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Do you sometimes wish there was a song that went along with your favorite children’s story? Do you sometimes wish you had a fun and cute activity for your students to do? Enclosed in this book are songs, some original and some classics, which lend themselves nicely to having something for children to hold. It is my experience that children have more fun in a lesson when there is something to actively do as opposed to simply listening to instruction. More fun will hopefully lead to better retention of the material taught! That is why this book was created. Velcro, felt, and glue guns are your friends! You can find materials for creative manipulatives at department stores, craft aisles and just about anywhere. Copy these ideas or use them as a starting point for your own ideas for manipulatives. The songs and manipulatives are super easy and super helpful. You will find your students singing these songs at various times throughout the day, to just start singing spontaneously. What a joy it is to hear children singing! And what a surprise when you hear what they remember! I hope you enjoy this resource for many years!

Book Why the Amish Sing

    Book Details:
  • Author : D. Rose Elder
  • Publisher : JHU Press
  • Release : 2014-09-15
  • ISBN : 1421414651
  • Pages : 213 pages

Download or read book Why the Amish Sing written by D. Rose Elder and published by JHU Press. This book was released on 2014-09-15 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An intimate portrait of the diverse music-making at the center of Amish faith and life. Singing occurs in nearly every setting of Amish life. It is a sanctioned pleasure that frames all Amish rituals and one that enlivens and sanctifies both routine and special events, from household chores, road trips by buggy, and family prayer to baptisms, youth group gatherings, weddings, and “single girl” sings. But because Amish worship is performed in private homes instead of public churches, few outsiders get the chance to hear Amish people sing. Amish music also remains largely unexplored in the field of ethnomusicology. In Why the Amish Sing, D. Rose Elder introduces readers to the ways that Amish music both reinforces and advances spiritual life, delving deep into the Ausbund, the oldest hymnal in continuous use. This illuminating ethnomusicological study demonstrates how Amish groups in Wayne and Holmes Counties, Ohio—the largest concentration of Amish in the world—sing to praise God and, at the same time, remind themselves of their 450-year history of devotion. Singing instructs Amish children in community ways and unites the group through common participation. As they sing in unison to the weighty words of their ancestors, the Amish confirm their love and support for the community. Their singing delineates their common journey—a journey that demands separation from the world and yielding to God's will. By making school visits, attending worship services and youth sings, and visiting private homes, Elder has been given the rare opportunity to listen to Amish singing in its natural social and familial context. She combines one-on-one interviews with detailed observations of how song provides a window into Amish cultural beliefs, values, and norms.

Book Tewa Tales

  • Author : Elsie Clews Parsons
  • Publisher : University of Arizona Press
  • Release : 1994-03
  • ISBN : 9780816514526
  • Pages : 332 pages

Download or read book Tewa Tales written by Elsie Clews Parsons and published by University of Arizona Press. This book was released on 1994-03 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Tewa are a Pueblo Indian group from New Mexico, some of whom migrated around 1700, in the aftermath of the second Pueblo Revolt, to their present location on First Mesa of the Hopi Reservation in northern Arizona. This collection of more than one hundred tales from both New Mexico and Arizona Tewa, first published in 1926, bears witness to their rich cultural history. In addition to emergence and animal stories, these tales also provide an account of many social customs such as wedding ceremonials and relay racing--that show marked differences between the two tribal groups. A comparison of tales from the two divisions of the tribe reveals something of what has happened to both emigrant and home-staying Tewa over two centuries of separation. Yet, while only half of the Arizona tales are distinctly parallel to the New Mexican, additional similarities may be found in such narrative features as the helpfulness of Spider old woman and her possession of medicine, creating life magically under a blanket, or Coyote beguiling girls into marriage. Elsie Clews Parsons was a pioneering anthropologist in the Southwest whose works included the encyclopedic Pueblo Indian Religion. The Tewa tales she gathered for this volume are thus notable not only as fascinating stories that will delight curious readers, but also as authentic reflections of a people less known to scholars.

Book excerpt: Sing! has grown from Keith and Kristyn Getty’s passion for congregational singing; it’s been formed by their traveling and playing and listening and discussing and learning and teaching all over the world. And in writing it, they have five key aims: • to discover why we sing and the overwhelming joy and holy privilege that comes with singing • to consider how singing impacts our hearts and minds and all of our lives • to cultivate a culture of family singing in our daily home life • to equip our churches for wholeheartedly singing to the Lord and one another as an expression of unity • to inspire us to see congregational singing as a radical witness to the world They have also added a few “bonus tracks” at the end with some more practical suggestions for different groups who are more deeply involved with church singing. God intends for this compelling vision of His people singing—a people joyfully joining together in song with brothers and sisters around the world and around his heavenly throne—to include you. He wants you,he wants us, to sing.
