Book Green March Black September RLE Israel and Palestine

Download or read book Green March Black September RLE Israel and Palestine written by John K. Cooley and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-05-22 with total page 269 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In March 1968 Palestinian guerrillas and Jordanian troops combined forces to respond to Israeli raids into Jordan, provoking visions of new unity and future military success. Yet by September 1970 mounting friction between the Palestinian guerrillas in Jordan and King Hussein’s regime came to a head with the hijackings at Dawson’s Field and the defeat by Jordan’s forces of the Palestinians. The savagery of the fighting and the bitter consequences for the Palestinian guerrillas gave this month the name Black September: a name that was to reappear ominously in months to come. Who are the Palestinians? Many people only became aware of their existence because of terrorism, particularly the Black September operation at the Munich Olympics. Yet the Palestinians are at the very heart of the Middle East problem, and this book, first published in 1973, tells their story. The core of the book describes the emergence of the various guerrilla groups, joined by Palestinians hopeful of regaining lost land and lost dignity, and the ideologies and differences of the groups. There are personal interviews with some of the main leaders, and other chapters examine the relationships and interaction between the Palestinian groups and the Soviet bloc, the Chinese, the Third World, the West, and most important, the Israelis themselves.

Book The Fedayeen Emerge

Download or read book The Fedayeen Emerge written by Shaul Bartal and published by Authorhouse UK. This book was released on 2011-09 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The State of Israel was founded in 1948 on the ruins of Arab Palestine. Hundreds of Arab villages were destroyed and thousands of refugees found themselves homeless in the neighboring Arab states or in the districts that were left of Mandatory Palestine - the Jordanian West Bank and the Egyptian Gaza Strip. Israel started to establish its sovereignty over the areas it had captured during the war. But what of the Palestinians? They were supposedly forgotten. Through deep and extensive research this book describes the Palestinians' conflicts during the 1950's. This is the struggle of a defeated generation through its own eyes, the struggle of groups and individuals against a reality they could not accept. Their aim was to survive and restore their lives to the path cut off by the Naqba, the "disaster" of the founding of Israel. This is how the second inter-communal war was started. This war included widespread infiltration of Israel by Palestinians and large-scale Israeli retaliatory acts against them. These Palestinian protest movements succeeded in influencing Arab governments (notably Nasser's Egypt) to take anti-Israel steps. This was a movement of self-sacrifice, Fdaa, whose aim was to liberate Palestine. This volume details the various aspects of Palestinian struggle against Israel during the 1950's.

Book Terror in Black September

Download or read book Terror in Black September written by David Raab and published by St. Martin's Press. This book was released on 2007-09-04 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On Sunday, September 6, 1970, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) hijacked four airliners bound from Europe for New York. One, a brand new Pan Am 747, was taken to Cairo and blown up only seconds after its passengers escaped. The attempt to hijack a second plane, an El Al flight, was foiled and the plane landed safely in the UK. Two other planes, one TWA and one Swissair, were directed to the desert floor thirty-five miles northeast of Amman, Jordan, where a twenty-five day hostage drama began. With the additional hijacking of a British airliner, over four hundred and fifty hostages had landed in the Jordanian desert. David Raab was on the TWA flight with his mother and siblings but was separated from them and taken to a refugee camp and then to an apartment in Amman where he was held hostage through a civil war. This is his story.

Book Jordan s Palestinian Challenge 1948 1983

Download or read book Jordan s Palestinian Challenge 1948 1983 written by Clinton Bailey and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-03-04 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two-thirds of all Palestinians are Jordanian citizens living on the East and West Banks; a sizable number also reside and work in various parts of the Arabian Peninsula. With the questions of ultimate sovereignty over the West Bank and the Gaza Strip attracting much international attention since Israel's occupation of these areas in 1967, the solution to the Palestinian question is often seen as entirely dependent on Palestinian relations with Israel, despite the fact that only one-third of the Palestinians live in the occupied territories. In contrast, Palestinian relations with the Arab states, including Jordan, are generally portrayed as a sideshow to the main theater of conflict. This book examines the thirty-five-year struggle between the Hashimite monarchy and the forces of Palestinian nationalism over the future identity, and perhaps location, of those two-thirds of the Palestinian people who have been Jordanian subjects since 1948. Dr. Bailey bases his study on "open" sources: reports appearing in the Arab, Israeli, and world press, in addition to academic studies and published memoirs of persons involved in the events described, providing an accurate portrayal of the significant developments in Jordan's Palestinian challenge over the past thirty-five years.

Book Jordanians Palestinians the Hashemite Kingdom in the Middle East Peace Process

Download or read book Jordanians Palestinians the Hashemite Kingdom in the Middle East Peace Process written by Adnan Abu Odeh and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The complex, often uneasy, relationship between Transjordanians and Palestinians has profoundly influenced not only Jordan but also the entire Middle East peace process. At different times, Jordan's Hashemite royalty has sought to accommodate, embrace, exclude, or cooperate with the Palestinians and the PLO, and the impact of these efforts has been felt throughout the region. Today, Jordan has signed a peace treaty with Israel, and Palestinians account for over half of the Jordanian population--yet the dynamic relationship between the regime and its Transjordanian and Palestinians citizens still arouses powerful sentiments at home and can send shock waves through the West Bank and Israel. Abu-Odeh explores this relationship from its origins in the 1920s to the very latest attempts to cope with competing national identities and to sustain a peace process.
