Book Determination of Nitrogen Oxygen Hydrogen in Metals by Inert Gas Fusion A Manometric Method

Download or read book Determination of Nitrogen Oxygen Hydrogen in Metals by Inert Gas Fusion A Manometric Method written by and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Capillary manometers were used for the simultaneous determination of microgram quantities of nitrogen, oxygen, and hydrogen by the inert-gas fusion technique. The gases evolved from fusion of the sample are carried by helium, flrst through hot copper oxide for oxidation of H/sub 2/ to H/sub 2/O and CO to CO/sub 2/, then through capillary-manometer cold traps for the isolation and subsequent measurement of H/sub 2/O (at 110 deg C) and CO/sub 2/, and finally through activated charcoal at --196 deg C for the removal of N/sub 2/. The N/sub 2/ is transferred by Toepler pump to a capillary manometer for measurement. The time required for a complete analysis is about 25 minutes; less, if all three elements are not required. Sensitivity and precision are about the same as for the vacuum fusion method. (auth).

Book Organic Elemental Analysis

Download or read book Organic Elemental Analysis written by Wolfgang Kirmse and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 159 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Organic Elemental Analysis: Ultramicro, Micro, and Trace Methods is a 22-chapter text that presents the methods for ultramicro, micro, and trace organic elemental analysis for commercial routine analysis. Each chapter of this book describes the important features of the methods evaluated, such as gas chromatography, wet absorption, spectrophotometry, diffusion, extraction, flame photometry, and dead-stop titration. These methods are classified into dynamic, multielement, and automatic determination methods. The advantages and limitations, as well as the speed, accuracy, reliability and economic aspects of these methods are examined. Considerable chapters are devoted to the analysis of various elements, including carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, sulfur, chlorine, bromine, iodine, fluorine, and phosphorus. Organic and analytical chemists, as well as chemistry teachers and students will find this work invaluable.
