Book Simultaneous Determination by Hydride Generation and Inductively Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectrometry of Arsenic Antimony Selenium and Tellurium in Silicate Rocks Containing the Noble Metals and in Sulphide Ores

Download or read book Simultaneous Determination by Hydride Generation and Inductively Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectrometry of Arsenic Antimony Selenium and Tellurium in Silicate Rocks Containing the Noble Metals and in Sulphide Ores written by and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A method is described for the continuous generation of the hydrides of arsenic, antimony, selenium and tellurium and the simultaneous determination of these elements by an atomic emission spectrometer with a 5-kW nitrogen - argon inductively coupled plasma source. After digestion of the sample, the analytes are separated from the matrix by coprecipitation with iron(III) hydroxide at pH 2.40. A standard additions technique is used for quantification. This method is relatively free from interferences and is applied to the determination of arsenic, antimony, selenium and tellurium in silicate rocks containing gold and the platinum-group metals (noble metals), and also in sulphide ores rich in transition metals and lead.

This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today, atomic emission spectroscopy is a well-established analytical technique of widespread application - a technique that no-one involved or interested in chemical analysis can afford to ignore. The present book was written to meet the need for an extensive introduction to this technique. It is written in an easy-to-understand way, and is mainly aimed at tertiary-level students at universities and colleges, and at newcomers to the field. The book prepares the reader for the study of more advanced texts and the increasing number of research papers published in this area. It will not only be of great use to the analytical chemist, but will appeal to specialists in other fields of chemistry who need an understanding of analytical techniques. The book introduces the analytical techniques of atomic emission spectroscopy, outlining the principles, history and applications. It discusses spectrography, excitation sources, inductively coupled plasmas, instrumentation, nebulization, sample dissolution and introduction, accuracy and precision, internal standardization, plasma optimization, line selection and interferences, and inductively coupled plasma mass spectroscopy. Understanding of the material is aided by 128 illustrations, including 11 photographs. References follow each chapter, and an extensive index completes this useful work.

Book Hydride Generation Methods for the Determination of Arsenic Antimony and Selenium

Download or read book Hydride Generation Methods for the Determination of Arsenic Antimony and Selenium written by SJ. Callio and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although hydride generation methods have long been used for the analysis of As and Se by AA, very little work has been done on simultaneous hydride generation for the ICP (inductively coupled plasma) environment. This paper will present an outline of the sample preparation and instrumental parameters for the determination of As, Sb, and Se by ICP/hydride. This will be followed by a brief discussion of some quality assurance measurements which demonstrate the accuracy and precision of the method. It will be shown that the method can be used with EPA Superfund Contract Lab Program (CLP) type digestates and has great potential for producing reliable data for As, Sb, and Se in waste samples.

Book Determination of Total and Leachable Arsenic and Selenium in Soils by Continuous Hydride Generation Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry

Download or read book Determination of Total and Leachable Arsenic and Selenium in Soils by Continuous Hydride Generation Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry written by and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A novel gas-liquid separator has been designed for continuous hydride generation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), incorporating a water trap to remove solution droplets from the gas stream. The system has been applied to the determination of total and leachable arsenic and selenium in soils of the Western Cape region of South Africa. Samples were prepared by alkaline fusion for the determination of total concentrations, and leaching with 1 M ammonium nitrate was used to determine the leachable content. Use of the hydride generation system confers a forty-fold increase in sensitivity over conventional nebulization, and eliminates argon chloride interferences. Detection limits were in the range of 0.2 to 1 microg per l. Certified reference materials were analysed, and good agreement with the certified values was obtained.

Book Trace Elemental Analysis of Selenium and Antimony Using Hydride Generation Coupled to Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy

Download or read book Trace Elemental Analysis of Selenium and Antimony Using Hydride Generation Coupled to Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy written by Latresa J. Williamson and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Detection of metalloids such as selenium and antimony in the environment is important for technological and health reasons. Selenium in trace amounts has biological importance and hydride generation is one of the most effective sample introduction techniques for analytical atomic spectroscopy measurements. Aqueous solutions of selenium and antimony are converted to a gaseous form via hydride generation and the gas is delivered to an atomizer for measurement. Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy, LIBS, is the atomic emission spectroscopy method that is used in this research to measure the gaseous form of the analyte generated by the hydride approach. Analyte atoms are atomized and excited by a laser-produced plasma and the atomic emission is measured at an element-specific wavelength. Optimization of the instrument to obtain the maximum wavelength of emission was performed using a 10 ppm solution of each element. The optimized parameters were used to measure various concentrations of each element in solution ranging from 0 to 10 ppm. A calibration curve was generated using the wavelength to plot intensity as a function of concentration. A limit of detection, LOD, was determined using the data from the calibration curve. Additional research in this work included studying the characteristics and properties of laser produced-plasmas and determining how this information can be utilized in further studies of trace analysis of selenium and antimony.
