Book An Algorithm for the Simultaneous Reconstruction of the Radionuclide Activity Distribution and Attenuation Map Based on PET Scatter Data

Download or read book An Algorithm for the Simultaneous Reconstruction of the Radionuclide Activity Distribution and Attenuation Map Based on PET Scatter Data written by Geng Zhang and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Attenuation correction is required for both qualitative and quantitative analysis of positron emission tomography (PET) imaging. Traditional attenuation correction methods use a transmission scan, such as a computerized tomography (CT) or an external radionuclide source scan. The transmission scan contaminates the emission data of PET if the transmission scan is performed during the PET scan. When the transmission scan is performed separately, artifacts can be introduced due to patient movement. In addition, the conversion of the CT image to an attenuation map at PET energy and the smaller field-of-view (FOV) of a transmission scan cause other artifacts. For PET/MR systems, detector compatibility issues for traditional PET scanners along with image truncation and patient movements also introduce artifacts. Therefore a transmission-less attenuation correction approach is needed. Previous studies using true coincidence data to simultaneously reconstruct the attenuation map and radionuclide activity distribution suffer from the cross-talk between the distributions. In this study, the scatter data of PET was used to reconstruct the electron density distribution as a representation of the attenuation map. A simultaneous reconstruction of the activity and electron density distributions were developed. Reconstruction results have shown that the contrast recovery coefficients of the region of interests were comparable to the reconstructions using a known attenuation map.

Download or read book Constructive Experimental and Nonlinear Analysis written by Michel A. Théra and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2000 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This volume presents twenty original refereed papers on different aspects of modern analysis, including analytic and computational number theory, symbolic and numerical computation, theoretical and computational optimization, and recent development in nonsmooth and functional analysis with applications to control theory. These papers originated largely from a conference held in conjunction with a 1999 Doctorate Honoris Causa awarded to Jonathan Borwein at Limoges. As such they reflect the areas in which Dr. Borwein has worked. In addition to providing a snapshot of research in the field of modern analysis, the papers suggest some of the directions this research is following at the beginning of the millennium."--BOOK JACKET.

Book Medical Image Synthesis

Download or read book Medical Image Synthesis written by Xiaofeng Yang and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2024-02-06 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Image synthesis across and within medical imaging modalities is an active area of research with broad applications in radiology and radiation oncology. This book covers the principles and methods of medical image synthesis, along with state-of-the-art research. First, various traditional non-learning-based, traditional machine-learning-based, and recent deep-learning-based medical image synthesis methods are reviewed. Second, specific applications of different inter- and intra-modality image synthesis tasks and of synthetic image-aided segmentation and registration are introduced and summarized, listing and highlighting the proposed methods, study designs, and reported performances with the related clinical applications of representative studies. Third, the clinical usages of medical image synthesis, such as treatment planning and image-guided adaptive radiotherapy, are discussed. Last, the limitations and current challenges of various medical synthesis applications are explored, along with future trends and potential solutions to solve these difficulties. The benefits of medical image synthesis have sparked growing interest in a number of advanced clinical applications, such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-only radiation therapy treatment planning and positron emission tomography (PET)/MRI scanning. This book will be a comprehensive and exciting resource for undergraduates, graduates, researchers, and practitioners.

Book Quantitative Analysis in Nuclear Medicine Imaging

Download or read book Quantitative Analysis in Nuclear Medicine Imaging written by Habib Zaidi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-07-11 with total page 593 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a review of image analysis techniques as they are applied in the field of diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine. Driven in part by the remarkable sophistication of nuclear medicine instrumentation and - crease in computing power and its ready and inexpensive availability, this is a relatively new yet rapidly expanding field. Likewise, although the use of nuclear imaging for diagnosis and therapy has origins dating back almost to the pioneering work of Dr G. de Hevesy, quantitative imaging has only recently emerged as a promising approach for diagnosis and therapy of many diseases. An effort has, therefore, been made to place the reviews provided in this book in a broader context. The effort to do this is reflected by the inclusion of introductory chapters that address basic principles of nuclear medicine instrumentation and dual-modality imaging, followed by overview of issues that are closely related to quantitative nuclear imaging and its potential role in diagnostic and therapeutic applications. A brief overview of each chapter is provided below. Chapter 1 presents a general overview of nuclear medicine imaging physics and instrumentation including planar scintigraphy, single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) and positron emission tomography (PET). Nowadays, patients’ diagnosis and therapy is rarely done without the use of imaging technology. As such, imaging considerations are incorporated in almost every chapter of the book. The development of dual-modality - aging systems is an emerging research field, which is addressed in chapter 2.

Book Correction Techniques in Emission Tomography

Download or read book Correction Techniques in Emission Tomography written by Mohammad Dawood and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2012-04-27 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written by an interdisciplinary team of medical doctors, computer scientists, physicists, engineers, and mathematicians, Correction Techniques in Emission Tomography presents various correction methods used in emission tomography to generate and enhance images. It discusses the techniques from a computer science, mathematics, and physics viewpoint. The book gives a comprehensive overview of correction techniques at different levels of the data processing workflow. It covers nuclear medicine imaging, hybrid emission tomography (PET-CT, SPECT-CT, PET-MRI, PET-ultrasound), and optical imaging (fluorescence molecular tomography). It illustrates basic principles as well as recent advances, such as model-based iterative algorithms and 4D methods. An important aspect of the book is on new and sophisticated motion correction techniques in PET imaging. These techniques enable high-resolution, high-quality images, leading to better imaging analysis and image-based diagnostics. Reflecting state-of-the-art research, this volume explores the range of problems that occur in emission tomography. It looks at how the resulting images are affected and presents practical compensation methods to overcome the problems and improve the images.
