Book Direct and Large Eddy Simulation VIII

Download or read book Direct and Large Eddy Simulation VIII written by Hans Kuerten and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-10-05 with total page 460 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume continues previous DLES proceedings books, presenting modern developments in turbulent flow research. It is comprehensive in its coverage of numerical and modeling techniques for fluid mechanics. After Surrey in 1994, Grenoble in 1996, Cambridge in 1999, Enschede in 2001, Munich in 2003, Poitiers in 2005, and Trieste in 2009, the 8th workshop, DLES8, was held in Eindhoven, The Netherlands, again under the auspices of ERCOFTAC. Following the spirit of the series, the goal of this workshop is to establish a state-of-the-art of DNS and LES techniques for the computation and modeling of transitional/turbulent flows covering a broad scope of topics such as aerodynamics, acoustics, combustion, multiphase flows, environment, geophysics and bio-medical applications. This gathering of specialists in the field was a unique opportunity for discussions about the more recent advances in the prediction, understanding and control of turbulent flows in academic or industrial situations.

Book Molecular Simulation Studies in Material and Biological Sciences

Download or read book Molecular Simulation Studies in Material and Biological Sciences written by Kholmirzo Kholmurodov and published by Nova Publishers. This book was released on 2007 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Book & CD. Computer molecular simulations of complex multi-particle systems play a fascinating role in fundamental physics, biochemical and life sciences. Having an increasingly significant impact on many applied industries, especially in modern biophysical and nanotechnological areas, molecular simulation provides a set of tools for predicting many functional properties of molecular systems. The chemical, pharmaceutical, materials and related industries -- all share the computer molecular simulation methods. The molecular simulation studies cover different fields of either biological processes -- protein folding and electron densities of DNA and proteins, or thin film formations and surface-cluster phenomena in nanoelectronics, synthetic copolymers and biopolymer design in biochemistry, so on. Practically all of the world's present supercomputers and many specially developed high performance computing clusters over the world are performing molecular simulations or are aimed on these needs. This book presents leading international research in this dynamic field.

Book Artificial War Multiagent based Simulation Of Combat

Download or read book Artificial War Multiagent based Simulation Of Combat written by Andrew Ilachinski and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2004-06-14 with total page 782 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Military conflicts, particularly land combat, possess the characteristics of complex adaptive systems: combat forces are composed of a large number of nonlinearly interacting parts and are organized in a dynamic command-and-control network; local action, which often appears disordered, self-organizes into long-range order; military conflicts, by their nature, proceed far from equilibrium; military forces adapt to a changing combat environment; and there is no master “voice” that dictates the actions of every soldier (i.e., battlefield action is decentralized). Nonetheless, most modern “state of the art” military simulations ignore the self-organizing properties of combat. This book summarizes the results of a multiyear research effort aimed at exploring the applicability of complex adaptive systems theory to the study of warfare, and introduces a sophisticated multiagent-based simulation of combat called EINSTein. EINSTein, whose bottom-up, generative approach to modeling combat stands in stark contrast to the top-down or reductionist philosophy that still underlies most conventional military models, is designed to illustrate how many aspects of land combat may be understood as self-organized, emergent phenomena. Used worldwide by the military operations research community, EINSTein has pioneered the simulation of combat on a small to medium scale by using autonomous agents to model individual behaviors and personalities rather than hardware.

Book Computer Simulations of Protein Structures and Interactions

Download or read book Computer Simulations of Protein Structures and Interactions written by Serafin Fraga and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Protein engineering endeavors to design new peptides and proteins or to change the structural and/or functional characteristics of existing ones for specific purposes, opening the way for the development of new drugs. This work develops in a comprehensive way the theoretical formulation for the methods used in computer-assisted modeling and predictions, starting from the basic concepts and proceeding to the more sophisticated methods, such as Monte Carlo and molecular dynamics. An evaluation of the approximations inherent to the simulations will allow the reader to obtain a perspective of the possible deficiencies and difficulties and approach the task with realistic expectations. Examples from the authors laboratories, as well as from the literature provide useful information.

Book Functional Programming Concurrency Simulation and Automated Reasoning

Download or read book Functional Programming Concurrency Simulation and Automated Reasoning written by Peter E. Lauer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1993-06-16 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of papers arose from a series of lectures for workers in computer science and other disciplines. The lectures were intended to familiarize them with some of the most exciting advanced computer based systems for the conceptualization, design, implementation, simulation, and logical analysis of applications in these disciplines. The collection presents some strong motivational points for the use of theory based systems in the areas of functional programming, concurrency, simulation, and automated reasoning, highlighting some of their advantages and disadvantages relative to conventional systems. The papers are mostly the work of individuals who were among the originators of the systemspresented. The volume is intended as a contribution to narrowing the learning gap facing conventional computer users when they wish to use advanced theory based systems. The papers are meant for a wide audience and should not require great mathematical sophistication for their comprehension. The papers contain numerous references for those wishing to pursue a topic in greater depth.

Book Multiscale Problems and Methods in Numerical Simulations

Download or read book Multiscale Problems and Methods in Numerical Simulations written by James H. Bramble and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2003-10-22 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume aims to disseminate a number of new ideas that have emerged in the last few years in the field of numerical simulation, all bearing the common denominator of the "multiscale" or "multilevel" paradigm. This covers the presence of multiple relevant "scales" in a physical phenomenon; the detection and representation of "structures", localized in space or in frequency, in the solution of a mathematical model; the decomposition of a function into "details" that can be organized and accessed in decreasing order of importance; and the iterative solution of systems of linear algebraic equations using "multilevel" decompositions of finite dimensional spaces.

Book Meshing Geometric Modeling and Numerical Simulation Volume 2

Download or read book Meshing Geometric Modeling and Numerical Simulation Volume 2 written by Paul Louis George and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2019-01-24 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Triangulations, and more precisely meshes, are at the heart of many problems relating to a wide variety of scientific disciplines, and in particular numerical simulations of all kinds of physical phenomena. In numerical simulations, the functional spaces of approximation used to search for solutions are defined from meshes, and in this sense these meshes play a fundamental role. This strong link between meshes and functional spaces leads us to consider advanced simulation methods in which the meshes are adapted to the behaviors of the underlying physical phenomena. This book presents the basic elements of this vision of meshing. These mesh adaptations are generally governed by a posteriori error estimators representing an increase of the error with respect to a size or metric. Independently of this metric of calculation, compliance with a geometry can also be calculated using a so-called geometric metric. The notion of mesh thus finds its meaning in the metric of its elements.
