Download or read book Direct and Large Eddy Simulation VII written by Vincenzo Armenio and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-04-28 with total page 575 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After Surrey in 1994, Grenoble in 1996, Cambridge in 1999, Enschede in 2001, Munich in 2003 and Poiters in 2005, the 7th Workshop, DLES7, will be held in Trieste, again under the auspices of ERCOFTAC. Following the spirit of the series, the goal of this latest workshop is to establish a state-of-the-art of DNS and LES techniques for the computation and modeling of transitional/turbulent flows covering a broad scope of topics such as aerodynamics, acoustics, combustion, multiphase flows, environment, geophysics and bio-medical applications. This gathering of specialists in the field should once again be a unique opportunity for discussions about the more recent advances in the prediction, understanding and control of turbulent flows in academic or industrial situations.

Download or read book Manual of Simulation in Healthcare written by Richard H. Riley and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2016 with total page 483 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Practising fundamental patient care skills and techniques is essential to the development of trainees' wider competencies in all medical specialties. After the success of simulation learning techniques used in other industries, such as aviation, this approach has been adopted into medical education. This book assists novice and experienced teachers in each of these fields to develop a teaching framework that incorporates simulation. The Manual of Simulation in Healthcare, Second Edition is fully revised and updated. New material includes a greater emphasis on patient safety, interprofessional education, and a more descriptive illustration of simulation in the areas of education, acute care medicine, and aviation. Divided into three sections, it ranges from the logistics of establishing a simulation and skills centre and the inherent problems with funding, equipment, staffing, and course development to the considerations for healthcare-centred simulation within medical education and the steps required to develop courses that comply with 'best practice' in medical education. Providing an in-depth understanding of how medical educators can best incorporate simulation teaching methodologies into their curricula, this book is an invaluable resource to teachers across all medical specialties.

Download or read book Simulation and Optimization written by Georg Pflug and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains selected papers presented at the "International Workshop on Computationally Intensive Methods in Simulation and Op th th timization" held from 23 to 25 August 1990 at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (nASA) in La~enburg, Austria. The purpose of this workshop was to evaluate and to compare recently developed methods dealing with optimization in uncertain environments. It is one of the nASA's activities to study optimal decisions for uncertain systems and to make the result usable in economic, financial, ecological and resource planning. Over 40 participants from 12 different countries contributed to the success of the workshop, 12 papers were selected for this volume. Prof. A. Kurzhanskii Chairman of the Systems and Decision Sciences Program nASA Preface Optimization in an random environment has become an important branch of Applied Mathematics and Operations Research. It deals with optimal de cisions when only incomplete information of t.he future is available. Consider the following example: you have to make the decision about the amount of production although the future demand is unknown. If the size of the de mand can be described by a probability distribution, the problem is called a stochastic optimization problem.
Download or read book Modelling and Simulation of Integrated Systems in Engineering written by D J Murray-Smith and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-05-30 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book places particular emphasis on issues of model quality and ideas of model testing and validation. Mathematical and computer-based models provide a foundation for explaining complex behaviour, decision-making, engineering design and for real-time simulators for research and training. Many engineering design techniques depend on suitable models, assessment of the adequacy of a given model for an intended application is therefore critically important. Generic model structures and dependable libraries of sub-models that can be applied repeatedly are increasingly important. Applications are drawn from the fields of mechanical, aeronautical and control engineering, and involve non-linear lumped-parameter models described by ordinary differential equations. - Focuses on issues of model quality and the suitability of a given model for a specific application - Multidisciplinary problems within engineering feature strongly in the applications - The development and testing of nonlinear dynamic models is given very strong emphasis

Download or read book Integrated Power Devices and TCAD Simulation written by Yue Fu and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-12-19 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From power electronics to power integrated circuits (PICs), smart power technologies, devices, and beyond, Integrated Power Devices and TCAD Simulation provides a complete picture of the power management and semiconductor industry. An essential reference for power device engineering students and professionals, the book not only describes the physics inside integrated power semiconductor devices such lateral double-diffused metal oxide semiconductor field-effect transistors (LDMOSFETs), lateral insulated-gate bipolar transistors (LIGBTs), and super junction LDMOSFETs but also delivers a simple introduction to power management systems. Instead of abstract theoretical treatments and daunting equations, the text uses technology computer-aided design (TCAD) simulation examples to explain the design of integrated power semiconductor devices. It also explores next generation power devices such as gallium nitride power high electron mobility transistors (GaN power HEMTs). Including a virtual process flow for smart PIC technology as well as a hard-to-find technology development organization chart, Integrated Power Devices and TCAD Simulation gives students and junior engineers a head start in the field of power semiconductor devices while helping to fill the gap between power device engineering and power management systems.

Download or read book Constitutive Models for Rubber VII written by Stephen Jerrams and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2011-09-09 with total page 476 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All aspects of our lives, industry, health, travel and leisure, are utterly reliant on rubber materials, yet typically this notion rarely occurs to us. Increasingly, greater demands are made on elastomeric compounds and we seek elevated performance in terms of improved physical and chemical properties. In particular, we have come to expect rubber components (tyres, vibration isolators, seals etc) to exhibit exceptional wear and fatigue resistance, often at elevated temperatures. Unsurprisingly then, the emphasis in characterising isochoric materials has shifted significantly away from understanding and modelling hyperelastic material behaviour, to a position where we can confi dently design and manufacture rubber components having the functionality and resilience to meet the dynamic loading and harsh environmental conditions that are prevalent today. In consequence, state-of-the-art technology in terms of dynamic response and fatigue resistance are strongly represented here along with numerous insights into advanced elastomers used in novel applications. This development is not at the expense of research devoted to current test procedures and the constitutive equations and algorithms that underpin finite element methods. As a result, Constitutive Models for Rubber VII is not only essential reading for undergraduates, postgraduates, academics and researchers working in the discipline, but also for all those designers and engineers involved in the improvement of machines and devices by introducing new and novel elastomers possessing elevated properties.
