Book Simultaneous Least squares Approximation of a Function and Its First Integrals with Application to Thermodynamic Data

Download or read book Simultaneous Least squares Approximation of a Function and Its First Integrals with Application to Thermodynamic Data written by Frank J. Zeleznik and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 1 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A method is presented for the simultaneous leastsquares approximation of a function and its first integrals subject to the constraint that the re iduals vanish at some point in the interval of the fit. This method is applied to fitting empirical equations to the thermodynamic functions heat capacity, enthalpy, and entropy. Numerical examples indicate, first, that on the basis of the residuals in all the functions a simultaneous fit is superior to fitting heat capacity alone, and second, that no one form of the empirical equation can be considered best for all chemical species over any arbitrary temperature interval. Book Thanatia The Destiny Of The Earth s Mineral Resources A Thermodynamic Cradle to cradle Assessment

Download or read book Thanatia The Destiny Of The Earth s Mineral Resources A Thermodynamic Cradle to cradle Assessment written by Antonio Valero Capilla and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2014-08-18 with total page 670 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is Gaia becoming Thanatia, a resource exhausted planet? For how long can our high-tech society be sustained in the light of declining mineral ore grades, heavy dependence on un-recycled critical metals and accelerated material dispersion? These are all root causes of future disruptions that need to be addressed today. This book presents a cradle-to-cradle view of the Earth's abiotic resources through a novel and rigorous approach based on the Second Law of Thermodynamics: heat dissipates and materials deteriorate and disperse. Quality is irreversibly lost. This allows for the assessment of such depletion and can be used to estimate the year where production of the main mineral commodities could reach its zenith. By postulating Thanatia, one acquires a sense of destiny and a concern for a unified global management of the planet's abiotic resource endowment. The book covers the core aspects of geology, geochemistry, mining, metallurgy, economics, the environment, thermodynamics and thermochemistry. It is supported by comprehensive databases related to mineral resources, including detailed compositions of the Earth's layers, thermochemical properties of over 300 substances, historical energy and mineral resource inventories, energy consumption and environmental impacts in the mining and metallurgical sector and world recycling rates of commodities.

Book Least Square Optimal Approximation Simulation Techniques

Download or read book Least Square Optimal Approximation Simulation Techniques written by Peter Francis Salamon (Jr) and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report addresses the use of a quadratic objective function in an optimal control setting to construct an approximate solution for distributed parameter models. The systems are first order with respect to time and linear and time-dependent with respect to the spatial operator. The Least Squares variational technique is compared with the Galerkin finite element method in order to ascertain the worth of the optimal simulation on a digital computer. The Least Squares approach is demonstrated to be a powerful tool in simulating stable physical systems. In addition, the use of a coupled basis and a weighting matrix in the quadratic objective function can be used to tune the approximate solution. Thus, refined numerical simulations for certain classes of partial differential equations are readily accomplished with the Least Squares optimal simulation techniques. (Author).

This book was released on 2018-05-29 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For several decades the NASA Glenn Research Center has been providing a file of thermodynamic data for use in several computer programs. These data are in the form of least-squares coefficients that have been calculated from tabular thermodynamic data by means of the NASA Properties and Coefficients (PAC) program. The source thermodynamic data are obtained from the literature or from standard compilations. Most gas-phase thermodynamic functions are calculated by the authors from molecular constant data using ideal gas partition functions. The Coefficients and Properties (CAP) program described in this report permits the generation of tabulated thermodynamic functions from the NASA least-squares coefficients. CAP provides considerable flexibility in the output format, the number of temperatures to be tabulated, and the energy units of the calculated properties. This report provides a detailed description of input preparation, examples of input and output for several species, and a listing of all species in the current NASA Glenn thermodynamic data file.Zehe, Michael J. and Gordon, Sanford and McBride, Bonnie J.Glenn Research CenterCOMPUTER PROGRAMS; HEAT OF FORMATION; THERMODYNAMICS; ENTROPY; SPECIFIC HEAT; TABLES (DATA); COEFFICIENTS

Book Simulation with Entropy Thermodynamics

Download or read book Simulation with Entropy Thermodynamics written by Christophe Goupil and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2021-03-11 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Beyond its identification with the second law of thermodynamics, entropy is a formidable tool for describing systems in their relationship with their environment. This book proposes to go through some of these situations where the formulation of entropy, and more precisely, the production of entropy in out-of-equilibrium processes, makes it possible to forge an approach to the behavior of very different systems. Whether for dimensioning structures; influencing parameter variability; or optimizing power, efficiency, or waste heat reduction, simulations based on entropy production offer a tool that is both compact and reliable. In the case of systems marked by complexity, it appears to be the only way. In that sense, realistic optimization can be carried out, integrating within the same framework both the system and all the constraints and boundary conditions that define it. Simulations based on entropy give the researcher a powerful analytical framework that crosses the disciplines of physics and links them together.
