Book Reactive Batch Distillation of Ethyl Acetate

Download or read book Reactive Batch Distillation of Ethyl Acetate written by and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reactive distillation is a multi-functional unit operation combining chemical reactor and distillation column in a single unit. Fatty acid esterification is increasingly realized as a reactive distillation (RD) process because of its formation being affected by the chemical equilibrium. In this work, a detailed mathematical dynamic rate-based model of reactive batch distillation column is formulated for ethyl acetate synthesis and presented as a system of differential and algebraic equations (DAEs). The developed model is then solved to obtain the detailed column dynamics. The simulation results provide the dynamics of reboiler and distillate compositions, ethyl acetate purity in the accumulated distillate and conversion of the reactants. These simulation results are compared with experimental data, and it indicates a very good agreement. The developed model is then applied to formulate dynamic optimization problem in order to derive the optimum operating policy, reflux profile.

Book Distillation Design and Control Using Aspen Simulation

Download or read book Distillation Design and Control Using Aspen Simulation written by William L. Luyben and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2006-04-20 with total page 361 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A timely treatment of distillationcombining steady-state designand dynamic controllability As the world continues to seek new sources of energy, the distillation process remains one of the most important separation methods in the chemical, petroleum, and energy industries. And as new renewable sources of energy and chemical feedstocks become more universally utilized, the issues of distillation design and control will remain vital to a future sustainable lifestyle. Distillation Design and Control Using Aspen Simulation introduces the current status and future implications of this vital technology from the dual perspectives of steady-state design and dynamics. Book Reactive Distillation

Download or read book Reactive Distillation written by Vandana Sakhre and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chemical process industries deal with production which further utilizes reaction followed by separation of the reaction mixtures. Reactive distillation is a new technique of combination of both reaction and separation in a single unit beneficial for equilibrium-limited reactions and also cost-effective. This makes it a highly complex process because many parameters involved in both reaction and separation are interactive in nature. In this chapter, modeling, simulation, and optimization of reactive distillation are presented. Methyl acetate production via reactive distillation is chosen as a case study. The results are compared for both experimental and simulation studies. The synthesis of methyl acetate was carried out in a packed RDC by catalytic esterification using acetic acid and methanol as reactants in a pilot-scale experimental setup. A strong acidic ion exchange catalyst, Amberlyst-15, was used to enhance the rate of heterogeneous esterification reaction. The result obtained was observed with change in various variables including the reflux ratio (RR), distillate-to-feed (D/F) ratio, and bottom-to-feed (B/F) ratio with respect to product composition. The optimization and sensitivity analysis was carried out using Aspen Plus process simulation software.
