Book Dual Polarization Two Port Fiber Optic Gyroscope

Download or read book Dual Polarization Two Port Fiber Optic Gyroscope written by Zinan Wang and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-03-23 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis demonstrates and investigates novel dual-polarization interferometric fiber-optic gyroscope (IFOG) configurations, which utilize optical compensation between two orthogonal polarizations to suppress errors caused by polarization nonreciprocity. Further, it provides a scheme for dual-polarization two-port IFOGs and details their unique benefits. Dual-polarization IFOGs break through the restriction of the "minimal scheme," which conventional IFOGs are based on. These innovative new IFOGs have unique properties: They require no polarizer and have two ports available for signal detection. As such, they open new avenues for IFOGs to achieve lower costs and higher sensitivity.

Book Modeling an Interferometric Fiber Optic Gyroscope

Download or read book Modeling an Interferometric Fiber Optic Gyroscope written by Jorge M. Martin and published by . This book was released on 2004-10-01 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: (U) In this paper we derive an expression for the output intensity of a general Interferometric Fiber Optic Gyroscope (IFOG). The light source is assumed to be non-monocromatic with an arbitrary frequency distribution function belonging to L2 (R). This result is expanded and expressed in terms of the parameters involved in the definition of each of the four entries of the clockwise Jones matrix of a generic IFOG with an even frequency distribution. We obtain an expression for the Sagnac phase shift error and compute it for a Gaussian, rectangular, and triangular frequency distribution function. The clockwise loop Jones matrix of a fairly general IFOG model is computed. Matlab programs for computing the output intensity and Sagnac phase shift error are also included.

Book The Fiber Optic Gyroscope Second Edition

Download or read book The Fiber Optic Gyroscope Second Edition written by Herve C. Lefevre and published by Artech House. This book was released on 2014-10-01 with total page 413 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written by one of the field’s leading experts, this landmark reference presents a thorough system analysis of the fiber-optic gyroscope (FOG), describing the concepts that have emerged as the preferred solutions for obtaining a practical device. This book’s first edition was published in the early 1990’s. If the basic design rules of the FOG have remained unchanged, the technology has certainly matured, and the expectations presented in the first edition have been largely exceeded. This second edition is updated throughout, featuring new content on Allan variance; testing with optical coherence domain polarimetry; the Shupe effect; and rare-Earth doped fiber ASE sources. In addition, brand new comprehensive appendixes cover the optics, single-mode fiber optics, and integrated optics necessary to understand the fiber gyro and provide an appropriate vocabulary for communicating with electronic component designers.

Book Extraction of Rotation Information from a Simulated Fiber Optic Gyro Using Amplitude Modulation

Download or read book Extraction of Rotation Information from a Simulated Fiber Optic Gyro Using Amplitude Modulation written by Daniel J. Brett and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this experiment was to determine feasibility of the amplitude modulated dither technique of extracting rotation information from a fiber optic gyroscope. By varying the amplitude of the modulation appropriately, information can be obtained at points on the output intensity curve that are most sensitive to rotation. These points are also in the most linear region of the curve. A Michelson interferometer is used to simulate a Sagnac interferometer undergoing rotation. A digital control loop processes the information obtained by amplitude modulation and generates a feedback signal to null the path length difference. The feedback signal is monitored while a rotation simulation signal is introduced to the interferometer. The feedback signal tracks the simulation signal at 180 degrees out of phase (negative feedback). The test setup performs as expected to the hardware and operating frequency limits. (Author).

Book An Optical Signal Processing Model for the Interferometric Fiber Optic Gyro Deterministic model

Download or read book An Optical Signal Processing Model for the Interferometric Fiber Optic Gyro Deterministic model written by Joseph M. Aein and published by RAND Corporation. This book was released on 1995 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report presents the results of a communication theoretic model used to analyze the operation of Interferometric Fiber Optic Gyroscopes (IFOG). The IFOG is an all-solid-state rotation-rate sensor employed in miniature inertial measurement units (MIMU). The IFOG can achieve a navigation grade of performance (0.01 degree/hour drift rate) and offers the considerable advantage of reducing instrument costs by a factor of two or more over the current ring laser gyroscope (RLG) technology base. A simplified classical propagation model is used to describe the optical beams employed. Optical signal modulation is impressed with the following goals: (1) increase the linearity of the rotation-rate measurement and (2) mitigate the deleterious effects of the optical scatter noise unavoidably generated by the desired light beams as they traverse the optical pathways of the IFOG. This report deals with goal (1) above. The following are analyzed: (1) AC bias modulation used to linearize the IFOG instrument; (2) closed-loop, feedback operation to extend the dynamic range; and (3) serrodyne operation. The analysis establishes the performance relationships among the appropriate optical signal parameters and allows for their optimization.

Book Gyroscopes

Download or read book Gyroscopes written by Xuye Zhuang and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2020-05-20 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers recent topics on gyroscopes. It briefly introduces the history of gyroscopes, and presents a concise analysis of the main types. The classical structure and main performance parameters of an interferometric fiber-optic gyroscope and an integrated optics passive-resonator gyroscope are analyzed. The developmental progress of a fiber optic gyroscope and its research situation in the United States, Japan, France, and other major developing countries are also presented. An effective autoregressive moving average model was invented to reduce MEMS gyroscope noise behavior. A discrete-time nonlinear attitude tracking control system was verified to achieve the agility and large-angle attitude maneuvers of spacecraft by numerical simulations. MEMS gyroscopes were experimentally demonstrated to be effective tools for gait analysis and to reduce the cost of revealing underlying pathologies.
