Book Simulation of Coherent Signals with Forward Error Correction Coding

Download or read book Simulation of Coherent Signals with Forward Error Correction Coding written by and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 49 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis focuses on the modeling and simulation of the performance of M-ary modulation techniques. In addition to the most popular used coherent modulation schemes, forward error correction (FEC) coded signals, and fading channels are also considered. The channel is modeled for the two cases of fading and no fading, both with additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN). The effect of barrage noise interference is also considered. Binary phase-shift keying (BPSK), 16-PSK, and 16-QAM (quadrature amplitude modulation) communication systems are simulated and analyzed. For BPSK, both hard decision decoding (HDD) and soft decision decoding (SDD) are considered. For 16-PSK and 16-QAM, only HDD is examined. Simulation results and analytical results are compared. The results show that the modeling and simulation in SystemView, are in excellent agreement with the analytical results.

Download or read book Error Relilient Video Communications Using High Level M QAM Modelling and Simulation of a Comparative Analysis of a Dual priority M QAM Transmission System for written by Ahmed B. M. Abdurrhman and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An experimental investigation of an M level (M = 16, 64 and 256) Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (QAM) transmission system suitable for video transmission is presented. The communication system is based on layered video coding and unequal error protection to make the video bitstream robust to channel errors. An implementation is described in which H.264 video is protected unequally by partitioning the compressed data into two layers of different visual importance. The partition scheme is based on a separation of the group of pictures (GoP) in the intra-coded frame (I-frame) and predictive coded frame (P frame). This partition scheme is then applied to split the H.264-coded video bitstream and is suitable for Constant Bit Rate (CBR) transmission. Unequal error protection is based on uniform and non-uniform M-QAM constellations in conjunction with different scenarios of splitting the transmitted symbol for protection of the more important information of the video data; different constellation arrangements are proposed and evaluated to increase the capacity of the high priority layer. The performance of the transmission system is evaluated under Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN) and Rayleigh fading conditions. Simulation results showed that in noisy channels the decoded video can be improved by assigning a larger portion of the video data to the enhancement layer in conjunction with non-uniform constellation arrangements; in better channel conditions the quality of the received video can be improved by assigning more bits in the high priority channel and using uniform constellations. The aforementioned varying conditions can make the video transmission more successful over error-prone channels. Further techniques were developed to combat various channel impairments by considering channel coding methods suitable for layered video coding applications. It is shown that a combination of non-uniform M-QAM and forward error correction (FEC) will yield a better performance. Additionally, antenna diversity techniques are examined and introduced to the transmission system that can offer a significant improvement in the quality of service of mobile video communication systems in environments that can be modelled by a Rayleigh fading channel.

Book Discrete Hartley Transform Based 4 Qam Ofdm Baseband System

Download or read book Discrete Hartley Transform Based 4 Qam Ofdm Baseband System written by Vijay Kumar and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2010-06 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Conventionally we use discrete Fourier transform (DFT) in OFDM system. This book presents the simulation of 4 Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (QAM) orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) baseband system and channel estimation which uses inverse discrete Hartley transform (IDHT) and discrete Hartley transform (DHT). As the calculation of DHT and IDHT involves real operations hence the computational complexities are less as compared to DFT and IDFT. Moreover as IDHT is same as DHT hence we can use same hardware for both, while the DFT and IDFT require separate hardware to implement. As compared to DFT based OFDM system, the simulated DHT based OFDM system achieves approximately the same transmission performance with less computational complexity and hardware requirements.

Book Carrier recovery in qam systems

Download or read book Carrier recovery in qam systems written by and published by . This book was released on 1912 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
