Book Unit Manufacturing Processes

Download or read book Unit Manufacturing Processes written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1995-01-03 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Manufacturing, reduced to its simplest form, involves the sequencing of product forms through a number of different processes. Each individual step, known as an unit manufacturing process, can be viewed as the fundamental building block of a nation's manufacturing capability. A committee of the National Research Council has prepared a report to help define national priorities for research in unit processes. It contains an organizing framework for unit process families, criteria for determining the criticality of a process or manufacturing technology, examples of research opportunities, and a prioritized list of enabling technologies that can lead to the manufacture of products of superior quality at competitive costs. The study was performed under the sponsorship of the National Science Foundation and the Defense Department's Manufacturing Technology Program.

Book Numerical Modelling of Material Deformation Processes

Download or read book Numerical Modelling of Material Deformation Processes written by Peter Hartley and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 476 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The principal aim of this text is to encourage the development and application of numerical modelling techniques as an aid to achieving greater efficiency and optimization of metal-forming processes. The contents of this book have therefore been carefully planned to provide both an introduction to the fundamental theory of material deformation simulation, and also a comprehensive survey of the "state-of-the-art" of deformation modelling techniques and their application to specific and industrially relevant processes. To this end, leading international figures in the field of material deformation research have been invited to contribute chapters on subjects on which they are acknowledged experts. The information in this book has been arranged in four parts: Part I deals with plasticity theory, Part II with various numerical modelling techniques, Part III with specific process applications and material phenomena and Part IV with integrated computer systems. The objective of Part I is to establish the underlying theory of material deformation on which the following chapters can build. It begins with a chapter which reviews the basic theories of classical plasticity and describes their analytical representations. The second chapter moves on to look at the theory of deforming materials and shows how these expressions may be used in numerical techniques. The last two chapters of Part I provide a review of isotropic plasticity and anisotropic plasticity.

Book Cost Analysis of Electronic Systems

Download or read book Cost Analysis of Electronic Systems written by Peter Sandborn and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2013 with total page 440 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Understanding the cost ramifications of design, manufacturing and life-cycle management decisions is of central importance to businesses associated with all types of electronic systems. Cost Analysis of Electronic Systems contains carefully developed models and theory that practicing engineers can directly apply to the modeling of costs for real products and systems. In addition, this book brings to light and models many contributions to life-cycle costs that practitioners are aware of but never had the tools or techniques to address quantitatively in the past.Cost Analysis of Electronic Systems melds elements of traditional engineering economics with manufacturing process and life-cycle cost management concepts to form a practical foundation for predicting the cost of electronic products and systems. Various manufacturing cost analysis methods are addressed including: process-flow, parametric, cost of ownership, and activity-based costing. The effects of learning curves, data uncertainty, test and rework processes, and defects are considered. Aspects of system sustainment and life-cycle cost modeling including reliability (warranty, burn-in), maintenance (sparing and availability), and obsolescence are treated. Finally, total cost of ownership of systems and return on investment are addressed.Real life design scenarios from integrated circuit fabrication, electronic systems assembly, substrate fabrication, and electronic systems managementare used as examples of the application of the cost estimation methods developed within the book.

Book Modeling Simulation And Control Of Flexible Manufacturing Systems A Petri Net Approach

Download or read book Modeling Simulation And Control Of Flexible Manufacturing Systems A Petri Net Approach written by Kurapati Venkatesh and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1999-01-29 with total page 429 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One critical barrier leading to successful implementation of flexible manufacturing and related automated systems is the ever-increasing complexity of their modeling, analysis, simulation, and control. Research and development over the last three decades has provided new theory and graphical tools based on Petri nets and related concepts for the design of such systems. The purpose of this book is to introduce a set of Petri-net-based tools and methods to address a variety of problems associated with the design and implementation of flexible manufacturing systems (FMSs), with several implementation examples. There are three ways this book will directly benefit readers. First, the book will allow engineers and managers who are responsible for the design and implementation of modern manufacturing systems to evaluate Petri nets for applications in their work. Second, it will provide sufficient breadth and depth to allow development of Petri-net-based industrial applications. Third, it will allow the basic Petri net material to be taught to industrial practitioners, students, and academic researchers much more efficiently. This will foster further research and applications of Petri nets in aiding the successful implementation of advanced manufacturing systems.

Book Manufacturing of Concrete Products and Precast Elements

Download or read book Manufacturing of Concrete Products and Precast Elements written by Helmut Kuch and published by Verlag Bau+Technik. This book was released on 2013-03-20 with total page 441 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The flexible use of prefabricated concrete products requires a continuously increasing diversity with regard to fresh concrete mix designs and properties, moulding processes, surface finishes and product characteristics. This trend imposes ever-higher requirements on manufacturers of the associated production equipment and on precast plants. The main goal is to implement a flexible production system in all processing stages. The relevant correlations and interactions need to be thoroughly considered and evaluated in order to ensure that concrete products and precast elements are manufactured to the required quality standard. To date, no comprehensive description of these correlations has been published in the relevant literature. This richly illustrated book closes the gap by describing the basic principles of the production processes, the fundamentals of materials, the composition of the concrete mix, and the equipment used for concrete production. Clearly arranged chapters detail the production processes and equipment used to manufacture small concrete products, concrete pipes and manholes, and precast elements. The authors have used their many years of experience in the field of precast technology and their close ties to the industry. Their aim was to integrate modern testing and calculation methods from neighbouring disciplines into precast technology. This includes, for instance, modelling and simulation of the workability behaviour of mixes, implementation of the latest advancements in machine dynamics to the design and engineering of production equipment, and the use of stateof-the-art measuring and automation technology for quality control purposes.
