Book Groundwater and Water Quality

Download or read book Groundwater and Water Quality written by Ramakar Jha and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-10-04 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with topics of current interest, such as climate change, floods, drought, and hydrological extremes. The impact of climate change on water resources is drawing worldwide attention these days, for water resources in many countries are already stressed and climate change along with burgeoning population, rising standard of living, and increasing demand are adding to the stress. Further, river basins are becoming less resilient to climatic vagaries. Fundamental to addressing these issues is hydrological modelling which is covered in these books. Further, integrated water resources management is vital to ensure water and food security. Integral to the management is groundwater and solute transport. The books encompass tools that will be useful to mitigate the adverse consequences of natural disasters. This book provides many new and innovative methods to assess groundwater and estimate water pollution. Groundwater recharge, solute transport, ground water modelling are some of the important variable used to estimate the groundwater movement, hydraulic gradient and pollution movement. The water quality is another important variable of river Ganga and its tributaries in India and other rivers over the globe.

This book was released on 2000 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ...Water withdrawals from the Ipswich River Basin affect aquatic habitat, water quality, and recreational use of the river; describes the development, calibration and limitations of a precipitation-runoff model, and simulations made with the model to determine the effects of water use and land use patterns on streamflows; also describes the study area, the data used in the model and the methods used to obtain those data and the methods used to estimate the effects of the pumping of wells on streamflow...

Book Estimation of the Effects of Land Use and Groundwater Withdrawals on Streamflow for the Pomperaug River Connecticut

Download or read book Estimation of the Effects of Land Use and Groundwater Withdrawals on Streamflow for the Pomperaug River Connecticut written by U.S. Department of the Interior and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2014-07-23 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A precipitation runoff model for the Pomperaug River watershed, Connecticut was developed to address issues of concern including the effect of development on streamflow and groundwater recharge, and the implications of water withdrawals on streamflow. The model was parameterized using a strategy that requires a minimum of calibration and optimization by establishing basic relations between the parameter value and physical characteristics of individual hydrologic response units (HRUs) that comprise the model. The strategy was devised so that the information needed can be obtained from Geographic Information System and other general databases for Connecticut. Simulation of groundwater recharge enabled evaluation of the temporal and spatial mapping of recharge variation across the watershed and the spatial effects of changes in land cover on base flow and surface runoff.

Book Simulation of the Regional Ground Water Flow System and Ground Water Surface Water Interaction in the Rock River Basin Wisconsin

Download or read book Simulation of the Regional Ground Water Flow System and Ground Water Surface Water Interaction in the Rock River Basin Wisconsin written by U.S. Department of the Interior and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2014-03-04 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A regional, two-dimensional, areal ground-water-flow model was developed to simulate the ground-water-flow system and ground-water/surface-water interaction in the Rock River Basin. The model was developed by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the Rock River Coalition. The objectives of the regional model were to improve understanding of the ground-water-flow system and to develop a tool suitable for evaluating the effects of potential regional water-management programs. The computer code GFLOW was used because of the ease with which the model can simulate ground-water/surface-water interactions, provide a framework for simulating regional ground-water-flow systems, and be refined in a stepwise fashion to incorporate new data and simulate ground-water-flow patterns at multiple scales.

Book Numerical Simulation of the Groundwater Flow System in Chimacum Creek Basin and Vicinity Jefferson County Washington

Download or read book Numerical Simulation of the Groundwater Flow System in Chimacum Creek Basin and Vicinity Jefferson County Washington written by Joseph L. Jones and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2014-07-16 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A groundwater-flow model was developed to evaluate potential future effects of growth and of water-management strategies on water resources in the Chimacum Creek Basin. The model covers an area of about 64 square miles (mi2) on the Olympic Peninsula in northeastern Jefferson County, Washington. The Chimacum Creek Basin drains an area of about 53 mi2 and consists of Chimacum Creek and its tributary East Fork Chimacum Creek, which converge near the town of Chimacum and discharge to Port Townsend Bay near the town of Irondale. The topography of the model area consists of north-south oriented, narrow, regularly spaced parallel ridges and valleys that are characteristic of fluted glaciated surfaces.
