Book Simulation of Air blast induced Ground Motion Phase i

Download or read book Simulation of Air blast induced Ground Motion Phase i written by Harry E. Auld and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 81 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An analytical and experimental program was performed to determine the most promising techniques for simulating the air-blast-induced ground motions from a largeyield nuclear weapon. Two techniques were then selected for further development. One of the selected techniques employs a detonable gas mixture and the other a primacord matrix to generate a traveling shock wave which loads the ground. The nuclear air-blast overpressure environment is described and the simulation produced by either scheme is compared with this environment. The primacord technique was then selected because it was found to be the most practical and economical. Sufficient data are presented to enable the design of simulation experiments which use either technique. (Author).

This book was released on 1969 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Project Drill Hole was conducted at McCormick Ranch test site for the following specific objectives: To examine the applicability of the findings of the HEST parameter study to large-size overpressure facilities; To expand knowledge of free-field ground motions; To assess the influence of two radically different instrumentation backfilling techniques on the continuity of the free field; To expand knowledge of the effects of the HEST environment on both surface inputs and free-field soil measurements; To assess the performance of air pressure transducers, and to evaluate the performance of a quarter-size launch control center; To evaluate the response of ultra-high frequency and low-frequency antennas in a HEST environment; To compare the behavior of cylindrical structures with and without foam-sulphur backpacking when placed at different depths of burial; and To evaluate the feasibility of reducing the pulse generated by the fallback of the surcharge by dispersing the surcharge with a secondary detonation. Book Simulation of Airblast induced Ground Motions Phase II A

Download or read book Simulation of Airblast induced Ground Motions Phase II A written by Jimmie L. Bratton and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The results of the Phase IIA, High-Explosive Simulation Technique (HEST) experiment are presented in the form of reduced data. A comprehensive analysis is not presented, although irregularities in the data are discussed. The experiment simulated airblast loading from a nuclear burst by detonating a contained Primcord matrix over a plan area 88 feet by 100 feet. The peak overpressure was 598 psi, the total impulse 19.25 psi-sec, the total duration was 172 msec, and the shock front velocity was 5640 feet per second. Measurements of free field stress, strain, particle velocity, particle acceleration, time of arrival of the wave front, and long span displacement were made. These data are presented as plots of peak values and time histories.

Book Measured Structural Response to Airblast induced Ground Motion in Project Back Fill

Download or read book Measured Structural Response to Airblast induced Ground Motion in Project Back Fill written by Don A. Linger and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 109 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Presented are the results obtained from several buried model structures subjected to a traveling air shock produced by a high-explosive simulation technique (HEST). The structures tested were a surface-flush vertical cylinder, a hemispherical dome buried one diameter, and a series of small model cylindrical structures varying from 2 inches in diameter to 16 inches in diameter and buried 36 inches. The dome and the vertical cylinder were instrumented with on-structure soil stress gages and the resulting pressures are presented. The acceleration of the dome and the velocities and accelerations of the vertical cylinder were measured. The small model structures were instrumented to measure the average pressure applied to the structure, the accelerations, and for the largest of the small model structures the velocities. These results are presented to document the data for future application and evaluation. (Author).

Book Blast induced Ground Motions

Download or read book Blast induced Ground Motions written by D. C. Gakenheimer and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 83 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two types of ground motions, resulting from blasts, were investigated, whose fundamental physics are often lost in computer simulations. One is the direct-induced surface wave, and the other is air-blast-induced horizontal displacements. The study used exact formulas for motions in an elastic model of the earth medium. It was found that the particles of the surface wave can move either forward or backward, depending on the initial loading conditions of the blast. Under a superseismic blast, horizontal displacements were found to be either in or out, depending on the Poisson's ratio of the medium and the velocity of the blast wave.

Book Soil Air Interactions During Airblast Induced Ground Motions

Download or read book Soil Air Interactions During Airblast Induced Ground Motions written by Martin Rosenblatt and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 155 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some ground motion records in HE field tests, e.g., MISERS BLUFF II-2 and PRE-MINE THROW IV-6, exhibit an enhanced upward velocity immediately following the initial airblast-induced downward motion. Also, laboratory experiments show the development of upward soil motions during positive air overpressure loadings; the motion in the laboratory tests was shown to be related to the flow of the air through the soil pores. In this report, the effects of pore-air (dry porous soils can have 30-40% of their volume filled with air; this in-situ air is called pore-air and is one important aspect of soil/airblast interactions.) on ground motions in dry porous soils are analyzed using five numerical simulations in one space dimension and time. Also, experimentally observed ground motions involving enhanced vertical velocities are explained using two-phase (soil and air) physics, including (a) the flow of air through the soil pores, and (b) soil fluidization. Fluidization of the soil occurs when the soil particles lose contact with each other and the total pressure is entirely supported by the pore-air.
